Well, let me give you the lowdown on our experience at Sacramento, recommended by the hotel front desk. Our expectations were high, I mean, it's our first night out in Lisbon and we're on the hunt for authentic Portuguese cuisine. Sacramento restaurant, let's talk. They delivered on the authenticity front, but when it comes to the flavor, it left me scratching my head. It's like the food was playing hide and seek with my taste buds – I just couldn't quite put my finger on what was missing. Good? Sure. Mind-blowing? Not even close.
We decided to dive into the seafood rice, which the staff had been raving about. I've got to hand it to them, the seafood was cooked to perfection. But here's the kicker – the rice, while cooked nicely, lacked any oomph. It was like eating a soupy-rice concoction with an overdose of sauce or broth. I mean, come on, where's the personality in that dish?
Moving on to the starters, I gave the mushroom and Portuguese ham entree a go. I've got to hand it to them, this one was a winner. Loads of delicious garlic punching through, and the ham brought a much-needed saltiness to the table. No complaints there, I'll give credit where it's due.
Now, let's talk cod-fish. It strutted in with those beautifully reduced onions and eggplants – or was it zucchini? Anyway, the fish, I can't deny, was cooked with finesse. Carefully laid on a bed of olive oil-soaked potatoes, it was hearty, it was filling. But, here's the kicker again – where's the excitement? It needed a little kick in the taste department, so I took matters into my own hands and added some Tabasco sauce and pepper to wake it up.
In the grand scheme of things, this joint offered a decent meal. We managed to find solace in some lovely whites by the glass – props for that wine selection, I must say. They did cozy up to the food offering rather well. So, there you have it, a culinary adventure that didn't exactly explode with flavors but did manage to tick a few boxes. Will I rush back? Not likely. Will I remember it? Yeah, for all the...

Read moreWe made our way to this restaurant located a short walk from our hotel. As alway, I like to dine early. Before a restaurant gets busy. At first glance the restaurant looked as though it could be located in NYC or LA. It didn't have a very homy Portuguese atmosphere to it. The menu had a good variety and they prices were a few euros more than than another restaurant we dined in the night before. The staff was polite and spoke English very well. We started with some sparkling water and a wonderful 2017 Portuguese Reserva shiraz from the Esmerlina winery. The bread was wonderful, fresh and with a great crust. The bread was served with a wild game pate which was exceptional as well as some excellent quality first press virgin olive oil. The starters were a roquefort salad and a seafood soup. The salad a good size however the soup could have been more generous given the prices. The real surprise came with the main courses. The Osso Buca was excellent. It was both tender and plentiful and slices rather than a whole large shank. I very much like the presentation and flavours. The dish was served with a small side pan with the mushroom risotto. The seafood rice was the more expensive entree but it came with a plentiful selection of seafood which dissipated any concern for the price. Overall the food was very good and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting or living in the...
