My experience was odd and unsatisfying. I visited this restaurant Saturday with a girlfriend and she already had a bad feeling about the place. When we walked in, she noticed that the bar tender and waitress/host were laughing at us and looking at us up and down like we didn't belong. I insisted that we try it out because the place had such great reviews, I could not have been more wrong. We sat down and it took us a little while to order. Everything on the menu looked so good we couldn't decide what to eat! When our waitress finally came back for the third time we placed our order and waited. We also thanked her for tolerating our indecisiveness . My appetizer (sushi) came out quick. The quality was good. My girlfriend's appetizer came out late, the waitress told us her dumplings had been dropped on the floor by a new food runner. Thats when things started to go down hill. About 10 minutes later my entree comes out, braised beef ramen, and my girlfriends vegetable dumplings finally come out at the same time. We both tasted our food and we were very disappointed, most of all me. My girlfriend was over the experience and decided to eat the dumplings however I could not eat my ramen. I took one bite of noodles and had a sip of the broth and could not taste a thing because everything in the bowl was bland. I pushed my bowl away and looked around for our waitress but she was no where to be found so i decided to wait for her to come check on us. When she finally entered the room about 15 minutes later I flagged her down and stated I would like for her to take the ramen back because I did not like it. I kindly thanked her then stated I would be happy to pay for my sushi. She replied "ok but you still have to pay for it". Before I could even process the bs that slithered out of her my mouth, my girlfriend said "why?! she didn't like it and she didn't eat it". The waitress then stated that she would have to ask her manager if it can be taken off my check. After a good 5 minutes, the waitress came back and said "THIS TIME we can take it off, but NEXT TIME you need to let us know sooner". .......... THIS RIGHT HERE is the comment that bothered me because
I didnt take multiple bites of the ramen or drink a lot of the broth you can clearly tell the bowl was barely touched
HOW ON EARTH am I supposed to let you know sooner if I cannot find you?!
Anyways the waitress gave us our checks for the dumplings and sushi, then stated that we need to pay in cash because of the $10 card limit. Would have been great to know that before hand. No worries, I asked her to put both together and that I would pay for both of our appetizers. Our receipt was delivered to us by someone completely different, Im assuming our waitress wanted nothing to do with us anymore.
Bottom line, my experience was odd and I am never going back. Though the sushi was alright and the quality was good the ramen and dumplings were not and the way the situation was handled was less than ideal. My friend and I were very calm and did our best not to disrespect the waitress however the way she treated us and the looks she gave us made us want to leave sooner rather than later. Maybe this place is just not for...
Read moreJoss was formerly my "go-to" place for Sushi. I've discovered other sushi places in the area that far surpass Joss. (Hello, Yama!) The other night, a trio of us decided to check out Joss, after I had not visited for (maybe) 2 years. We ordered several apps, which were all very good. As our meals, one friend got the chicken ramen, and my other friend and I shared 2 sushi rolls. (A Crunchy Ebi roll, and a spicy tuna roll) The Crunchy Ebi roll was excellent. But after that, the rest of the evening was a dumpster fire! The ramen was luke warm and had these knots of "chicken" that were unidentifiable, not to mention visually unappealing. They were quickly picked out, pushed aside and not eaten. The spicy tuna roll was "off". Both of us could not eat it, as it had a very unpleasant taste. We called the waiter over, who then said "let me get the manager". The manager would not come to the table, and NOTHING was done to correct the sushi roll that we found inedible. Therefore, leaving it largely untouched. They could have asked, "do you want to swap it out for another roll? Or, since you didn't eat it, we will take it off the bill." But NO! The waiter even went so far as to say, "the manager said the fish just came in yesterday, so maybe the chili oil in the roll has gone bad?" Regardless, WHO SAYS THAT?!?! SOMETHING in it was bad. Does it matter what it was? NO! IT WAS BAD! We didn't like it. We couldn't eat it. PERIOD! What happened to "the customer is always right?!?" Then we pay the bill, and he asks if we want the tuna roll wrapped up for us to take home. Uhhh....SERIOUSLY!!!??? Why the hell would we take that awful tasting tuna roll home to eat, when we weren't about to eat it there in the sushi bar?!?!?! The fact that the manager couldn't be bothered to come over and correct the situation, left a bad taste in my mouth. (Worse than that tuna!) Speaking of the manager, not coming to the table, I recall a previous visit a few years ago, and a table of 4 were unhappy with something and the manager refused to come to the table, which caused a big scene. That unpleasant scene could have been completely avoided had he just faced these people at the beginning. The bottom line is, the management there has never cared if you're unhappy with something. If a customer is not happy, most places strive to make things right. Joss does not. It's a shame, but this will be my last visit to Joss. There are bigger and WAY better...
Read moreOur experience tonight was so incredibly terrible that I have to share: So I’m in from town for the weekend for a wedding and wanted to take my sister and her friends to dinner to catch up. As soon as we sat down the waitress was visibly annoyed with us. First problem was she short with me about my out of state identification saying she had to ask her manager because “I would have to pay $5,000” blah blah blah if it’s fake (Meanwhile I’m 25) but I didn’t push it since we were tired, I told her it was fine. She then came back and demanded I confirm my address and date of birth, I wasn’t really in the mood for wine anyway so I said “that’s okay, I’ll take a water.” I reached out for my OD but she moved it out of reach as if she would take it and was annoyed that I wouldn’t answer her questions to win my wine. She took a loooong eye roll at me as if I wouldn’t see- but it was clear as day. I shrugged it off at first thinking she had a bad day. Then when it came to ordering she asked us our drink order multiple times and gave audible sighs of annoyance as we each asked questions about the menu. I was mortified by how rudely she was treating us but didn’t say anything still. Then when it came to actually ordering I handed her our sushi order and she slowlyyyy brought the order up to her eyes and gave a HUGE very noticeable eye roll. Then my sister asked if she wrote down our drinks (since we were there for about 15 minutes without water) and she said “you aren’t our only table” very rudely. I mean common- what waitress actually says that?? As if we were demanding too much of her by asking for water. Meanwhile there were only three tables full. I was so mortified that we left immediately without food or water. Would give zero stars if possible....
