We eat at Agave regularly. The food and service are great, but every single time we go there, when the credit charge card clears our bank, they have run it through for a higher amount than was on the slip. The first time or two, we thought it was an accident, but after it continued, we decided to quit putting the tip on the card and just leave a cash tip as we thought that would avoid the problem. Nope. They just ran out last charge through still adding more on when it cleared at our bank. And no, it's not just happening at one bank. We have used both debit and credit cards from 3 different banks now and had it happen on each one. The add on amounts have varied from less than $1 to $10. At this point, the funny business seems to be deliberate since it has happened so many times, on multiple cards, and with different wait staff, in each of our names. It appears to us that someone there may be skimming a little on card transactions when they run the final transaction. Given these events, we are currently deciding whether or not we will continue going there. If you go, my recommendation would be to only pay cash and then to count your change while still there. It's a shame to have bad actions by one person ruin the ability to eat at one of our favorite places. Any ideas of a way to report this apparent shenanigans...

Tacos were fire. Chips and salsa were both very dank. I think I could have eaten a million of their chips. Service was surprisingly impressive. We went on Cinco De Mayo so it was understandably packed in there. Easily could have been a s#!t show, but front and back of house both crushed it, everything came out quickly. They are open Sundays which is huge honestly because most Mexican places around here are not. Margaritas were absolutely spot on, I would have ordered a second if they were a couple bucks cheaper but instead opted for a second round of tequila shots and pacifico. They've got 5 or 6 different good practical tequilas to choose from nothing too crazy or top shelf, and only bottled mexican beers so don't expect an IPA on tap. It's arguably the best Mexican restaurant in Ashland, and I'm from Santa Barbara so I take my mexican food very seriously lol particularly my tacos. If you like hot (and I mean HOT) ask for the habanero salsa, it was insanely good but seriously not for the faint of heart. Definitely recommend this place, and I'll be back soon to try a carnitas burrito. I've yet to find the perfect carnitas burrito in the rogue valley but I have a feeling it might be here. Thank...

Update: Its been 4 years since my unsatisfied review and I ended up meeting some friends here on Saturday. I ordered a margarita, an appetizer of chips and quac and a chile reno for lunch. With my standard 20ish% tip it was FIFTY THREE DOLLARS. The food was...fine. The rice was dense, not traditional fluffy rice and the beans were runny. Not even close to my fav mexican food, and embarrassingly expensive.

Original: Ordered an agave bowl and my bad for not reading the menu better but I thought I'd save money (and food) by not adding meat cause all I wanted was what was in the menu description...little did I know that I was opting for the veggie option which is actually more expensive AND means that I'm now picking tiny pieces of mushrooms and zucchini out of my meal which I'm only still eating cause I paid almost $20 for it. Sides of sauces must be several dollars each for it to have added up so much. Was my first time being back in several years after several other bland "meh" experiences and...yeah...

This creekside gem blew me away. The west coast (even the northern areas like Oregon) has a high bar when it comes to Mexican food and these guys exceeded it, and then some. I started off with their house special margarita (perfectly balanced, not overpowered with tequila and also not too sweet) and then had the fresh salsa with homemade chips (crisp, perfectly salted, not greasy whatsoever). The ceviche had a generous amount of shrimp and the complementary textures made it one of my favorites, and the tacos/beans/rice clinched the deal. The owner and management were totally on their game -- attentive without hovering, super friendly yet professional, and genuinely appreciative of each customer who chose Agave over the many other restaurants nearby. The protected patio overlooking the creek was intimate and provided great people-watching as I enjoyed one of the best meals I've had in Ashland in years. Gracias Amigos!

We just moved to town in Aug, from Salem, OR-- where you can find lots of good (heavy, though) Mexican food in the valley. We had tried another highly rated place in town this summer, but it was so heavy and no better than what we can get in Salem for less $. I'd heard that Agave was fresh and light, something different. So this afternoon was my first time dining in this vibrant little eatery. I had the fresh fish tacos of the day-- rockfish. They were grilled with delicious filling and served with rice & pintos. I took some carnitas "wet" burritos home for son & husband, and a chicken & green chile tamale for myself, for an extra treat. All food was fresh, clean and wholesome tasting (that's why I had room for the tamale treat later, ha ha!). Service was courteous & knowledgeable. Seems like a nice place to eat, no matter the weather. The menu and accommodations can serve during the warm and the cool.

Portions are on the smaller side. The shrimp cocktail is served in an ice cream triangle cup. Super small with maybe five shrimp. The tacos have cabbage as well as the side salad. I would of enjoyed something differnt. Maybe in texture or flavor to switch up the taste to wake up the palate. Everything tasted the same nothing really stood out. Although over priced I probably would stick to the tacos. Taste wise its ok. But not a go to when I am really hungry!
