Came all the way from Gold Hill/Rogue River to Ashland for a special day celebration, Was really looking forward to a new place we could both eat at (I have several dietary allergies and restrictions and it's hard to find somewhere where there's more than just grilled chicken and a salad as options available). Came on 4/1/23 at approx 3:00 pm, not super busy, we were a party of 2, walked through the door to a party of 5 leaving, door entry way super narrow and was difficult to navigate and ended up landing past the "Please wait to be seated" sign, waiter told us to "sit anywhere, just not over there" and he pointed to the bookkeeping table, so we selected lower no - bar top table in the rear. Super happy to see all the menus for vegan, gluten- free, vegetarian, beverages and regular menus, and it was difficult to read them in the very low lighting. Waiter came up to table and brought water (flat warm, no ice, tasted like either Dasani or tap, very chemically) and asked if we needed another minute to order, we stated this was our first time here and had several dietary allergies and restrictions, was looking for options that didn't include gluten, dairy, or most nuts (almonds, peanuts and pistachios OK), waiter said, "we can do that" and then turned around and walked off without pointing out any menus or options on the menus. Selected tofu Thai curry boats and black truffle fries for me and a Jack Daniels burger with fries and a Diet Coke, waited for 5-10 minutes for waiter to return, waiter did ask appropriate questions about peanut sauce and coconut for allergies (thank you!). Food came out VERY quickly 😁👍🏻, hubby asked for a refill on Diet Coke and was going to get a side of ranch for his plain fries, waiter left before could say anything, requested ranch when waiter brought back drink, took 5 minutes to get ranch back. Burger patty was dry even with the bbq sauce, tofu Thai curry boats flavorful, lots of great texture, and way too much Thai peanut sauce to the point it took over the taste of anything else. Finished our meal and spent 5 minutes trying to flag down the waiter to get our check and a box for the rest of our fries (they were delicious the next morning!), he had trouble with tablet not wanting to scan our payment card, then he left the tablet on our table for us to sign with no instructions on how to tip, tapped the tip button and screen cleared, walked up to the bar to get assistance, bar tender took tablet and tapped a few buttons and said, "you're good", so we had no options to leave tip and we weren't offered a receipt so we have no idea how much we were actually charged until it clears our bank account. No one was rude, and no one smiled either - Not BAD experience, and yet not a good experience either, just very disappointed as we were looking for a new place to return to that we could both eat at, and there doesn't appear to be anything that makes us necessarily want to come back... 😢. Update: just checked my bank account, a tip was automatically added to the bill, appears to be about 15%, which is less than I usually would have given (have previously worked food service and typically tip at least 20-25%), so they cheated themselves out of a larger tip as well. This kind of reinforces us not returning - I wouldn't mind if a manager reached out to us so they were aware of what happens when they are not around, as any business deserves better representation for their...
Read moreIt is such a shame to have to give this restaurant such a low rating, but unfortunately there has been some recent events that we can't overlook. The first events was in the winter when we came. The restaurant was not very busy (maybe 1/3rd full), and my partner had ordered a tea. Halfway through the meal, she had wanted a refill, which we attempted to flag our waiter down to request.
Finally after 10 minutes of no service, I walked towards the bar and what I assumed was a waitress (I was later told she wasn't, but was "just a helper", whatever that means) stopped and looked up at me. I asked her for a tea, which was a cardinal sin, it turns out. She then brought out what appeared to be water, not tea at all. She then began giving my partner and I very nasty looks every time she walked by. We told our waiter that we didnt get the tea, and explained the situation. He said she's not even a waitress (but she was running tables, so could have fooled us), and that she is "going through a rough patch" at the moment. He then disappears and I guess told her what we said about the faces, because then she walked by with the most fake smile I have ever seen.
I wish I could say that was the end of it. Remember, this was MONTHS ago. We went back tonight and she saw us and literally made the most screwed up face at me. I was hoping she wasn't, that maybe I saw wrong, because I wanted to presume she for one certainly would not be holding a grudge that long. That was a vain hope.
Another woman took our order, and my partner again ordered tea, which didn't get brought out. The waitress we had the run-in with (if she is considered a waitress at this point, I don't know) brought out our food with a deadpan face and asked if we needed anything else. My partner asked for her tea, to which she said she would look into it. She then went back to running tables and never asked the other woman about our tea.
This may sound petty, and we felt petty about it, but when we noticed we were being totally ignored by all staff the remainder of our meal, never got the tea, and watched this waitress talk, smile, laugh, and run sauces, food, drinks (including mixed ones behind the bar) to other patrons, you can't help but feel like it was deliberate. We ended up just scarfing our food and gave up on the tea. Unfortunately, this employee's blatant targeting of patrons has created a hostile dining experience.
I can understand a rough patch, however, I cannot understand the refusal of basic service and the anger directed at us. I don't know if it is prejudice or what, but we will not be returning to Louie's. It is a shame that such a mean-spirited person should be allowed to continue at a business who boasts that "kind people are our...
Read moreWe've been going to Louie's for 21 years and will never go back. Their prices have steadily increased while their quality and service has decreased substantially. Last year, like many of us, we began ordering online often, since there are few options in Ashland. We began seeing the prices increase, yet the quality declined. We began having late deliveries, cold food and weird drivers. Over the past three months we've seen more decline in the quality and more delivery issues. Today we ordered food and when it was nearly 30 minutes past due my wife called to find out what was going on. She was told that the food had been delivered. Apparently the driver did not read our address correctly and delivered it to another house nearby. My wife was told that the driver knocked on the door and then called when no one answered, with no answer on the phone, she left our food and 64oz of beer on the front porch and left. My wife then asked if they could remake the food and was transferred to someone else who told her no. She then explained that she wanted a refund as this, combined with the other recent issues we've had has us completely turned off to them. Again she was told no and promptly handed the phone to me in disbelief. The smug young man on the phone stated that he was the manager and would not provide the food or a refund. I explained to him that this was an incredibly poor business decision and demanded the owner call us to further explain. We're waiting for the owner to contact us. Simply outrageous! Update 6/14/21 The owner provided a refund and an apology. He and my wife had a civil conversation and he was receptive to her constructive criticism. This is what should have happened in the first place. Perhaps it will be a learning opportunity for the delivery manager as well as the...
