For an $18 omelet at a Buckhead eatery, I had expectations it would be decent. I ordered the vegetarian omelet, and I'd give it a 5/10. The egg was thick, overbeaten, and dried out. It had no flavor other than the browned flavor of being cooked on too high of heat. So I took to sort of carving the browned stinky bits off. The sourdough toast was good, and real butter was provided. The coffee was also good and the cream with it.
The ambiance and décor were nice.
The server was meh and made me sit around without a greeting or starter drink for 10+ minutes. Then, he came and took my order and quickly brought my food and coffee together (when he first came, I should have just ordered the coffee and asked him to take my order a little later...to better control the pacing). He checked on me once and then told me I could pay using a QR code at the table. The online payment tool starts tips at like 22 or 23% with no option to choose your tipping rate. That's annoying when you're a party of 1 who has received crap service. I did not see the waiter again.
I felt like I paid a lot for sub-par food and the service and pacing were lacking. It was not busy (Friday morning at 8:30), and there were many open tables, so it's not like they needed me out to seat others.
If you look at my other Google reviews, I tend to be a very positive reviewer. I rarely leave these dumpy/gripey reviews, but I was pretty surprised at this. I have visited the bakery in this restaurant several times before, and I had been hoping to one day slow down and enjoy eating here at the Corner Cafe. But I won't do that again. Waffle House would be a better overall in terms of service and technique with and flavor of egg.
By the way, I did go to the bakery after breakfast to buy a friend a bunch of pastries, and the lady working that area was nice, and the pastries--per...
Read moreThe Corner Cafe, a member of the Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, has been serving breakfast, brunch, and lunch along Piedmont Road since 1994. The Buckhead Bread Company is the on-site bakery producing over 60 styles of European-style breads and rolls as well as pastries. Walking in, you can see the long counter of croissants, danishes, muffins, scones, and buns. Corner Cafe offers four types of Eggs Benedict, sandwiches, soups, and specialty brunch items such as Avocado Egg Toast, "Nutella" Belgium Waffles, Scratch Corner Beef Hash, and âBananas Fosterâ Buttermilk Pancakes.
The Cafe is a bright, comfortable environment, and I love the classic European design of the front of the restaurant, with its wood tones, beams, and panelings. We received solid customer service.
My husband and I arrived on a Sunday late morning and ordered the Lump Crab Cake Benedict and Pancakes with eggs and cheese grits. We grabbed a cheese pocket and a cinnamon donut muffin because we couldn't resist grabbing a few desserts to enjoy later.
The crab cake was a bit salty, and I did not love the discs that served as the foundation for the benedict. However, the potatoes were crispy and flavorful. My husbandâs pancakes were the highlight, as they were fluffy and tasty even before syrup was added.
The pastries were so good! The cheese pocket was so rich and flaky, and the sweet cheese was so smooth. We also loved the muffin, which really tasted like a cake donut rolled in cinnamon and sugar.
I also recommend not passing up on their coffee offerings, especially the French press service.
I would love to return to explore more of those sinful pastries and to try some of their...
Read moreFood: I had the Strawberry Zinger smoothie to start, which was tasty. It had a nice creaminess from the peach yogurt, and also a nice warming color. I also had the Cuban Sandwich without any mustard, which was awesome! I liked the thing bread, and the pork was great. I ordered a side of cheesy grits, and they were delicious, some of the best Iâve had. I love cheesy grits and these lived up to my expectation for sure. We had the almond croissant and cheese danish from the bread company. Both were delicious, buttery, flaky, and flavorful. My mom ordered the BLT egg sandwich, and she wanted me to say that that is one of the best cooked fried eggs she has ever had, the yolk was runny, and the whites were very soft.
Service: I had called previously asking when breakfast was served until, and she had said that it was all day. It was about 11 so we were excited that a place was still serving breakfast because we wanted some pancakes. We get sat down and our menus are all lunch items! We ask our waiter why we donât have breakfast menus, and it turns out that breakfast is only served all day on the weekends! But, other than this little bump everything else was fine. Food came out pretty fast.
Atmosphere: I really liked the stone floor, it was a nice little detail. The windows all around gave for some natural lighting, and ways to see everyone else moving about!
Overall: I would like to come back for breakfast and try it but lunch was...
