I was excited to try Kwans Deli, but the food is just meh to not good. I went here twice in the same week, trying the Cuban sandwich on the first visit and the spicy Korean chicken meal during the second visit.
The Cuban was just ok. At first, the bread was very hard to even bite through and somehow smashed more than I thought was possible. Although the bread was hard, there was a strange amount of liquid continuously dripping from the sandwich, which was just weird and gross. By the time I got to the second half of the sandwich, the bottom bread was a soggy mess, and the top still shattered with each bite. The sandwich was also oddly sweet, which was off-putting. I would not order it again. The only good thing was the side of fries that came with it. The fries were perfectly seasoned and fried. They were still crispy when I got to my destination 15 or so minutes after picking up my food.
The spicy Korean chicken was a huge disappointment. It consisted of plain chunks of white meat slathered with some sort of gojichung sauce. The chicken itself was dry and flavorless if not for the sauce. It came with a noodle salad that was also flavorless, except for some sprigs of cilantro, which was a very unpleasant surprise for someone who can't stand cilantro. Other sides included a pickled onion chunks/jalapeño combo that was pretty much inedible and white rice. The plain rice was the best part of that meal.
As a side, we also ordered beef potstickers, which were surprisingly good. Unfortunately, they came with a side of coleslaw, which was a very odd combination. The coleslaw was incredibly sweet and not good either.
Overall, the food here is not great or even good, and the prices are high - most likely because of their location next to Centennial Park and all the attractions. I would definitely not recommend the food here, and don't plan on eating here ever again if I...
Read moreOverall thoughts: wide array of cultural foods with an option for everyone's tastes. Great spicy chicken sauce that I will continue to think about for a while.
Food: We got the spicy chicken set and the Philly cheese steak with fries.
Whatever the sauce is on the spicy chicken is ✨️MAGICAL✨️. 10 out of 10, if they bottled it and sold it, we would buy some to take home. We used it on the fries and on the Philly Cheese Steak, and it was fantastic!
The chicken itself was juicy and held a nice layer of the spicy sauce well. The set came with 2 banchan (Korean word for side dishes). These were not your traditional Korean side dishes. However, they are delicious and go well with the meal. They also have a lot of the same flavor notes (sweet, sesame, and vinegar) as what you may see in a more traditional setting.
The Philly Cheese steak is great. The bread was perfect, the meat was well seasoned, the onions and peppers were perfect, and they still had a little crunch to them. The cheese had a great pull (it was provolone), and the fries were crispy.
We also got a side of kimchi. It was crunchy and went great with both meals. We actually bought some to take back to our hotel and have with meals we cook in the room.
Service: The service was fast, we walked up to the counter and ordered without a wait. Food was out within 10 minutes.
Atmosphere: There is both inside and outside seating. Centennial park is right outside the restaurant which puts it in a peaceful area. The restaurant is clean but overall the decor feels like a school cafeteria. Also, soft music in the background would help it to...
Read moreOrdered the chicken fried rice. After a horrible experience at McCormick and Schmick I walked down to this cozy spot. I’m not a big Korean person but the reviews gave me hope to try and find something on the menu. McCormick & Schmick offered Korean fried chicken that was basically chicken nuggets and I sent them back so I figured I would come here for real Korean fried chicken 😂! First, there are a lot of menu options. Even down to a 10 piece wings for $12.99 which is an amazing price! I probably should’ve gotten those but I wanted some veggies! The fried rice was tasty by itself but it did need a little flavor to spice it up so I added soy, Siracha and some of the yum yum sauce (I think that’s what it’s called). It did the job and was only $14. Of course rice is filling so I couldn’t eat all in one sitting so enough for leftovers. The only thing is I wish there were more veggies or I could customize the fried rice to add things like broccoli or zucchini. Otherwise this place was...
