Sunday (6/22/25) after church, I was searching for a "brunch buffet" in the ATL area. (Where I'm from, a Sunday brunch BUFFET is still a thing). When I saw there were not many buffets, and the one I really wanted to go to, (5 Church) had reservations only for later, I decided to try Flying Biscuit in Buckhead. (My daughter had taken me to the Midtown location when I visited ATL 3 years ago). I was a little concerned about what parking would be like, but they validate for free if you use the indoor parking lot which is attached to the business building. (parked on the 1st level and right by the elevator. The restaurant is just steps to the right of the elevator) NOTE: if you're not familiar with the area, the restaurant and parking are not easy to find but I just drove down Peachtree Road alongside a tall office building/complex until I saw a place to turn in and there was a parking garage.
The staff was GREAT... from the moment I walked in and was seated until the time I left and had my parking validated. (The only thing is no one stated their names so I'm not able to give them a shout out which is a shame... but O well). The seating, which seems to be a theme here in ATL, is a relatively smaller yet quaint space (reminding me of N.Y. restaurant spacing). I got a little table against the back wall (with a direct path to the restrooms and near a wall outlet...which I needed both). The atmosphere was great... no loud music.... just reasonable chatter of service staff working and patrons communing with one another. So I was able to people watch and enjoy my meal in peace.
I ordered the "Eg-stravaganza" and swapped out the French toast for a waffle. My food came so fast I thought they were serving the wrong table. The good stuff: My bacon was perfectly crisp and the chicken sausage patty was surprisingly quite tasty (I don't usually care for chicken patties). I don't care for eggs unless they are hard cooked. Now.....my eggs were NOT cooked hard as I requested, however the consistency was acceptable because the cheddar cheese was perfectly blended in so as to give the flavor profile I like. I prefer my waffles a bit crispier on the outside, but this waffle was tasty enough with the topping of butter and syrup on it. I also ordered a side of the potatoes which were perfectly seasoned, slightly crispy on the outside and tender in the center! The not so good: the "white cheddar" grits left much to be desired. (I make some "mean cheddar grits" which I slow cook for a long time to get a very tender texture.) Well, they got the texture right.... but the flavor was bland with no real trace of the cheesy flavor I expected. And they were NOT hot considered that my meal came so quickly. (My memory of the food at the midtown location just seemed a bit more gratifying)
My server (he didn't provide his name) was very busy... and still served me in a nice, attentive and professional manner.
My bill with gratuity was $30
I will say that I will probably eat at the Flying Biscuit again because the pricing for a standard breakfast (without ordering the extras) is pretty...
Read moreI was at the Flying Bisquit 7/19 around 11 am. I used Google Maps for directions, it led me close not exactly near to the closest entrance. I called, I spoke with Andrea (I asked her name later, and totally forgot it, sorry) and she gave me better directions. I am a fairly recent amputee and want to save some steps and decided to valet. I was told the valet wasn't validated, I am good with that.
I approach the valet and ask the gentleman where the Flying Bisquit Cafe is. He points a bit behind me. About 500 feet away. This location is in a corporate and residential high-rise plaza on the ground floor, on the other side of a lobby facing Peachtree. I ask how I can oay for thr Valerie, he told me it eas complimentary, just tips optional. I put the room up in my csr and take the 5pp foot walk.
I am greeted by a hostess and let her know I am eating solo (on the lookout for a future ex-wife). She asks ifbI want to sit at the counter, I said yes, that's always my preference as a solo diner. It takes a while for Andrea to ask if I am dining in, and she hands me a menu. I totally get it, she is overworked handling the chores the food delivery orders, the counter and fielding questions from her colleagues. It's all good for me.
I was told the Cheesy Grits were great. I get that and a decaf coffee. Yes the grits are GREAT! The decaf coffee was what it should be and I wasn't rushed. I was given tap water also. I strike up a conversation with a dude on my left that was at the Yankee vs Braves game the night prior (I went later that day). It was a nice friendly conversation.
As I am finishing up I let Andrea know that I'd like to ourchase on of the t-shirts on display on the wall to the right as walking in. It is purple with a grits phrase, in large. Andrea came back and told me they had medium and XL in thst shirt. I ask her to bring the XL out in case it runs small, I was also 35p lbs at one point and needed thst size and revert back to my old ways. She brings the XL out and ask her what does she think. Andrea says "It woukd make a good sleeping shirt" I pass and give her option 2. She goes back to let someone know of option 2, and I was told a large was found. YAY! I ask for the bill settle up with a card, a signature wasn't required on the receipt which I found odd, and left a tip on cash, walking out with my souvenir.
I hear off to the car, it was parked where I dropped it off. He grabs the keys, asks me for my ticket, give him a $5 bill and off I go to the Lenox mall.
It was definitely worth the quick ride to this...
Read moreThe first time I ever ate flying biscuit was there door dash. The grits were so good I had to go to the restaurant. This is a comfortable "come as you are" type of restaurant. Its were you go on a casual date or when you have family in town. I walked inside and spoke to the host and she ignored my greeting to go quickily wipe off a table before she came back to greet us. This isn't wrong or bad but a good learning opportunity for the hostess to say, "Good Morning, I will be right with you". The server had no personality but was there to simple take our order. If you go out to eat solely for food this wouldn't bother you but for me I would like a tour of the menu, point out the most popular items, and make suggestions if asked. Lastly, when my grit bowl came out I was shocked that it came with a sprinkle of Salmon that I paid an upcharge for. I was still hungry after eating my food and let my server know. He said okay and refilled our waters and walked away. He ignored my compliant and we had to order another meal to take home. A better solution would have been for him to say, "Thanks for the feedback, let me talk to my manager and see what we can do." Acknowledging I said words would have been reason enough for me to come back. Hopefully the restaurant can use this review as training material to provide an amazing experience for future guest.
P.S. Maybe the biscuits should come out before the food. I really expected them to arrive quickly considering the restaurant is called...
