This is certainly a hole-in-wall OLD SCHOOL diner, but make it Greek themed. I’m telling you, so old school everything is that purple-ish mauve color with the classic bar and kitchen right behind it and all.
But I’m also telling you, these are some of the best pancakes I have. ever. had. I’m one of those people who could eat breakfast food for every meal of the day, so it’s extremely hard for pancakes to impress to stand out. But these were straight up scrumptious. I forced most of my party to try them and saw the reactions each time as they all agreed, they were some “damn good pancakes”. And you can add m&m’s into them, which was a fun addition versus chocolate chips because the m&ms had a little crunch and just wow, my mouth is watering even thinking about it again.
We really enjoyed our visit here overall though- our waitress Ella was no spring chicken so she knew was she was doing, and gave us great southern hospitality. Even my gyro omelette was unique and delicious.
I do think the restaurant was a bit squished. It’s small, and even not being busy there wasn’t a lot of room to move around once you stood up. We also ended with banana pudding, and that’s never a dessert I’d choose myself but this is about as good as it comes- we saw them bring up a fresh pan of cake from the back to use for the...
Read moreI was so enraptured by the culinary delights served at this place that I actually forgot to take pictures. This delightful little Mediterranean-American fusion diner does not believe in small, paltry servings of anything, including portions, flavor, personality, and decor. I met two employees Earl and Church, who made the experience even better. Earl greeted us at the door with so much kindness, humor, and positivity; he also waited until after our meal and had a very entertaining conversation with us. He seemed genuinely interested in getting to know his customers and invigorated by their presence. Church was also very open and friendly, as well as complementary. They both truly made us feel special.
In terms of the main attraction, the food was incredibly fresh and good. It came out in a timely manner, the portions are considerable (which I didn't mind, but fair warning to those who don't prefer that). I got the presidential platter which is quite a lot though so take that into account as well. I wanted to try the banana pudding but unfortunately that is only served on Fridays. Still, this is a nice little hidden gem I would encourage...
Read moreThe White House has been around forever. A real throwback to the 60's that still exist. Atlanta has Bones, Johnny's Hideaway and The White House. Gus the guy who started the place in the 60's runs it today. He went away for a while but he's back . He's not around always but the hired hands are friendly and competent if you treat them with respect.
TWH is a made to order grill which means you have the luxury of telling them what you want. You don't have to order from the menu. If you are looking for fancy this is not it. If you want to bring an out of towner they will be impressed.
They have a special hot meal line everyday that is Greek style dishes and plentiful portions. Just a real friendly place to eat that isnt expensive or pretentious but where the owner and the staff know you by name or face. Ive been eating here for 22 years and I have never had a bad meal . Its an...
