The ice cream is very good. Unfortunately they don't honor their own policies. We ordered a lavender milkshake that tasted so strongly of lavender it was like soap. I can understand how some people may like this but it was way too overpowering for us. We walked out the door for approximately a minute since there were a lot of people in the store. We did not even leave the porch area and walked right back in to ask for a new simple flavor. Since they boast customer satisfaction and have an entire sheet at their counter detailing how they are willing to provide it. However they said since we stepped outside we are no longer eligible for this. Very disappointing for a 12oz milkshake that cost almost $8 and was bought less than 5 minutes ago... I wish they were able to honor this since it was so close to the purchase time and very very little of tje milkshake was consumed and obviously they do not have space inside the building for us to sit and enjoy but stepping out on their own porch is too far away from their store. We've gone so many times and we have always liked it. This wouldn't have been something we ask for unless it truly was a flavor that didn't sit well with us and they didnt boast such a policy......
Read moreI have been coming to Katie's ice cream in Hyannis for over a decade, but tonight was the night where I was absolutely floored. The boy serving us said it was $5.26 and I had exactly $5.25. I told him I didn't have an extra penny and it didn't really make sense to give him an extra $10 just to get a bunch of change back. I thought he would just let it slide, but he decided to stare at me until I gave him the extra penny. Nowhere have I ever been where I was short a penny and anyone has ever not just let it go? I understand it's a business, but a penny every once in a while is not going to kill anybody. I had to run down the street to the car to find a penny. While I was there, this whole experience occurred: there was a family in there and the kids ice cream cone broke. They asked for a new cone while the mom was holding the melting ice cream in her hands. The worker told her it was $1.25 and refused to do anything else. I was absolutely speechless. This poor child. I understand that things are expensive nowadays, but once again, a penny or extra ice cream cone isn't going to kill...
Read moreI visited Katie's a few days ago. Being a local, I don't typically go to main street in the summer, but a friend from the upper cape insisted we go because she'd heard they have gluten-free ice cream (she has celiac disease). It was super busy, we got into the line that was down on the sidewalk. The line moved quickly and the staff was kind, we received our order quickly as well. I ordered a scoop of butter pecan ice cream in a waffle cone, it was delicious and I was impressed because they make their waffle cones right there in the store. However, as we were eating, my friend noticed something odd in her scoop of black raspberry gluten-free ice cream. It was a chunk of cookie dough! 😭 She got very sick the next day and later that night. The owner of the store called her directly and apologized (which is why this is a 3-star instead of 2-star review). I hope they do take their gluten-free ice cream more seriously going forward, luckily my friend isn't deathly...
