We are local and were excited to try Thai Basil under its new ownership and grab some sushi. We visited on June 28th at 11:00 AM, right when they opened. It was just my wife, our toddler, and me. We ordered promptlyābecause, as any parent knows, eating with a toddler is a race against time.
We ordered a kidsā chicken fried rice, a Mango Roll, a Country Boy Roll, and a spicy squid salad to share. The fried rice came out quickly (around 11:08 AM), which was great. The squid salad followed shortly after. But no one warned us that the sushi would take an extremely long time.
By 11:48 AMānearly 50 minutes laterāwe still had no sushi, and our toddler was understandably done. I went inside to ask for the food to go. The server said, āThe rice just got cookedāitāll be out soon.ā I said we still needed to leave and asked for the check and a to-go box. I loaded our toddler into the car and came back to find my wife finally receiving the food a little before noon.
The waitress apologized, saying, āSorry, we just got the rice cooked. We use leftover rice for the fried rice and cook new rice for the sushi.ā Honestly, even if thatās the norm, no one wants to hear that their child just ate leftover food. If youāre opening at 11:00 AM, the kitchen should be ready to serve whatās on the menuāor at least warn customers of a long wait.
Finally, when we got home, we discovered theyād included a roll we didnāt orderāand charged us for it. I went back, returned the roll, and was given $15 cash.
Unfortunately, this was a terrible experience. I had left a positive review here in the past, but I canāt recommend this place anymore. I would welcome a conversation with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeautiful restaurant, food and service just ok and they donāt split checks for more than 2 people. Came with a group of 10, our server didnāt seem too enthusiastic about that for some reason lol. One of my friends with us used to be a server and she said maybe the kitchen gives him a hard time when itās big groups, so his mood may be from thinking what he may have to deal with in the kitchen š.
I ordered a fresh basil roll, Thai iced tea and green curry tofu. The fresh basil roll was really fresh, the sauces were just eh so when we passed the plate around to share most people skipped the sauce. The Thai iced tea was perfect, not too sweet. The green curry was just ok. More spicy than flavorful and wasnāt particularly aromatic either. I got to taste my friends siracha noodles and those were REALLY good, surprisingly sweet and barely spicy. I also got to taste my other friends tumeric curry with tofu. That was ok and she ended up giving me the rest to take home because she thought it was bland and said she wouldnāt eat her leftovers. I wanted to order the sweet mango sticky rice but they didnāt have mangos š.
It was a nice lunch during our herbalism apprenticeship break in Black Mountain, but it wasnāt the best Thai Iāve had in the area. Oh and if you come with a group bring cash because they donāt split checks of more than...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was very excited getting a door dash order so I could do some recon before I had a chance to eat there. Received a doordash order and arrived at 725 for a 732 pickup. Upon arrival was told 5 minutes. Several times I was told 5 minutes upon asking. At 745 Iām guessing a female manager told me 5 to 10 more minutes. After 10 more minutes still no answer. I watched delivery orders come out that were called on and placed after mine. There seemed to be much confusion as some of the workers didnāt know if orders with receipts had or had not been paid for. Confusion on orders with people with the same name for pick up and dining in. Observed a lot of Chaos and I watched the kitchen and saw no clear direction or in the words of Chef Ramsey who is expediting. They cost me money and I didnāt even get to taste the food. Definitely changes my excitement of eating thereā¦..Finally got my...
