When I first arrived I honestly thought it was a Bosnian place due to the name but I was proven wrong as soon as I saw the Italian map.
To make this review short as my hands hurt, the place itself is not very pretty but when looking to eat a pretty exterior usually means nothing.
Place appearance 6/10
The service itself is also decent you get your plates yourself and bring them to your own table.. we don't mind doing so it didn't matter to us but my parents did care.. just a heads up if you expected to get service like you do in most places
Service 7/10
The food is the one thing that matters to me and that's where the place shines, we ordered a rotoli di melanzana which is like a risotto filled eggplant lasagna which my mom loved (covered by marinara sauce).
I got a two polpetini penne covered in red sauce which was a veal pork and beef meatball. . Which honestly were the things I liked the least about the place.. but the pasta with red sauce was easily the best tasting red sauce I've had in a long while and certainly top 5 including Italy. . It had a marvelously tangy yet tomato taste to it it's hard to describe tastes for me.. but if you love red sauce this place makes among the best ones I've had and provide generous amounts of it on the plates.
The risotto arborio with sausage and mushrooms was delicious having a perfect mix of flavors.. this was probably the best taste among them all.
9/10 food
I would like to have more people experience the delicious tastes this place has to offer.. be it on TripAdvisor or Google maps.. this place is a far better visit than many Italian eateries on the north end ( Italian neighborhood), and with less than $10 entrees it's prices are great both for budget and for the mouth (flavors are great)
For a 4 person family we spent $60 with an appetizer entrees for all and...
Read moreA go-to lunch spot in the Financial District. The food, especially the sandwiches, are awesome! The bread is fresh, the meat is freshly sliced and the sauces are all made in house.
The ordering experience can be overwhelming. If you go during rush hour (11:45-1:00) expect there to be a line out the door or winding through the shop. The menu is really large (and very finely printed), making it difficult to decide what to get. I suggest looking up the menu ahead as you are often asked what your order is the second you walk in.
My order is the Ottimo sandwich; add hot peppers and salami. Excluding my adds, the sandwich is grilled eggplant, roasted red peppers, mozzarella, basil and olive oil. It is a bit oily, but very tasty.
My one complaint to the restaurant is to remove the two tables inside. I have never seen anyone actually eat at them, and it makes the ordering/waiting experience very uncomfortable. It really makes no sense to have them; it just disrupts the flow of ordering, especially when you're expected to order as soon as...
Read moreLady at the register will sneakily add 1-2 dollars to the already high menu prices when ringing you up. Good food and big portions but not worth having to keep your guard up for what should be a casual lunch interaction. Has been this way for years, only gotten worse since the pandemic and their failed second location. I'll continue to only go here when I have a craving I can't ignore.
Editing in response to owner (5 months later?): I actually said the food was very good, I'm not sure what the animosity is for. It's useful for other people to know to keep their guard up at the checkout counter even if I didn't one time. The price gets typed in by hand and happens very fast, I regret not saying something in time but shouldn't have to. Really, this place has high ratings already, I am only here to add context for future visitors and clearly am a long time customer. No untruths...
