My family and I were visiting uptown Charlotte for a few days, and decided to explore. We were getting hungry, and saw a sign for a "Johnny Burrito" . We walked in and were greeted very warmly. The gentleman at the register asked if we had been there before. We said no, and he immediately explained the menu, options, choices, and told us to take our time and that we are very welcome to try anything and ask any questions.
He also expressed his joy over our kids being there. Since they're only open 11am to 3pm Mon-Fri, they don't see many kids. He gave them some Twizzlers and handed us all some keychains and encouraged us to order as much food as we could fit in the container. The staff were super friendly and were having a good time, joking with us and making us feel very welcomed. The gentleman at the end of the line said he had grandchildren that had red hair like ours, so he walked away, and came back with 2 big handfuls of candy to give to them. We grabbed the last bit of our food and drinks, and they all gave us a wonderful goodbye.
We brought the food back to our hotel and started digging in. Let me tell you, I come from a spanish family and have had plenty of really amazing food in my life. This, was one of the best meals i've ever had. No joke. I got blackened chicken with chips, queso, and a smidge of hot sauce, my wife got the steak, quac, lettuce, tomato, queso, chips, and sour cream...my oldest had chicken, chips, queso, and shredded cheddar, and my youngest got the same. We all demolished all our food and sat back with a synchronized sigh of comfort. What a meal it was. It was one of those meals that made you feel glad you exist, and that you were born in a time that allowed you to savor those flavors and tastes. Delicious!
If you have the opportunity to stop by Johnny Burrito, I HIGHLY recommend doing so. The food, the atmosphere, the friendly environment, and experience will be worth it. I will be going here ANY time I visit Charlotte. If the staff read this, thank you all for such an amazing experience, and an...
Read moreI think thereâs plenty of posts who go into detail about how incredible their food is, but as someone who came from Chicago â I was most impressed by the demonstration of southern hospitality. The gentleman at the register couldnât have been kinder to us, giving us a rookie gift and a hand with the menu. He even came out to me and my wife while we were eating to give us sample cups to try some of their incredible lemon drop slushy.
Where we come from, âhow was everythingâ is a simple check box for the staff to feel like they were helpful. Down here in Charlotte, and with the gentleman helping us, it seemed like a sincere question.
Tucked away in the financial district, this business needs your help. If youâre a tourist, the food is affordable and worth seeking out for lunch. If youâre a local, remember your local businesses during this time.
Next time Iâm in Charlotte, Iâll be back for another burrito....
Read moreI have been a customer for more than 25 years, and I love the food, the people, and the management. I eat there every chance I get. From the fire cracker chicken, the pork adobo, and the tamales, their food is awesome. The staff are fun, friendly, and very skilled at their work. I always enjoy chatting with them as I go through the line. They also stay working there for long periods of times. A reflection of being well treated by management I would assume. In fact, Martha who recently retired, was there from the very beginning back in the 90's. When she did retire, management started a fund to pay off her mortgage, and accomplished that goal. A testament to how much they care for their staff. Cant say enough about the quality of management. Dont worry about the long lines, its well worth it, and they move the line...
