I went to Nic & Norman's last night with a friend. We ordered the Dips Your Way as an appetizer, which comes with a small boat of spinach artichoke dip, pimento cheese, and roasted red pepper hummus along with pita and potato chips for dipping. The dips were all ok to me, but nothing to really brag about. Typically hummus would be my last choice of the three, but it was actually the best of the three in this case. The spinach dip was a bit bland, and the pimento cheese was warm and not what we were expecting. One noteworthy thing was that it was not mentioned in the description that the pimento cheese is topped with bacon....something that should probably be mentioned since it could've been considered a vegetarian option if not for the bacon. We aren't vegetarians, so this wasn't an issue for us personally. I would give this appetizer a 3 out of 5...it was ok but nothing I would order again.
I ordered the meatloaf as my entrée, which comes with green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, and a cornbread muffin. I love meatloaf, but I'm usually scared to order it in restaurants, as it seems to be interpreted in many different ways, so you never know what you'll be getting. This meatloaf was a pretty standard meatloaf, but it was a bit dry. The green beans were also just ok...a little tough but still edible. The mashed potatoes were actually quite good, and I loved the gravy, but the portion size was quite small. The cornbread was also a bit on the small size, but I liked the taste. Overall, the meal was a 3 out of 5...it had some decent elements, but it wasn't above average or anything I would order again. My friend got a caesar salad...kind of hard to mess that up; it was fine.
The high point of our visit was Jo, our waitress. She was extremely friendly and attentive.
So overall, I would say this restaurant is average. The service was excellent and the atmosphere and location are cool, but the actual food was very forgettable. (Something I should've guessed when my friend said she'd been there before but couldn't remember if it...
Read moreI dont really like putting places down as I know that it might hurt the business but on the flip side of that I feel like the review system is tailored for people to support their friends or some stranger waitress that was nice to them that night. I feel like this practice hurts more than constructive feedback.
The location here has so much potential. Really cool build out with one of the most bustling parts of our small city. The celebrity appeal with some explosed brick should be a recipe for success in any locale' - well, the case here is the kitchen.
The menu is far more than the kitchen can handle, and i'm sure tasted good in concept but not in execution. The food is bad. Like really bad.
I've tried it twice now & I can safely say it's the most dissapointing place in South Side. Bland, over cooked, uninspired. Such a bummer as the space is so cool,.
Again, I don't want to hurt the business so once I know the owner saw this - i'll probably take it down.I dont really like putting places down as I know that it might hurt the business but on the flip side of that I feel like the review system is tailored for people to support their friends or some stranger waitress that was nice to them that night. Read moreThis place is connected to our hotel (nice to take your unfinished alcoholic beverage to the garden or your room). Had live music outside Friday evening when we arrived and ate elsewhere. Saturday morning we walked around downtown then stopped in for a beer. Large L shaped bar with comfy stools, one branch faces the huge, roll up, perpetually open windows overlooking the garden/patio bar where patrons outside can sit, facing patrons at the bar inside. Got an unusual ale on draft that husband really liked, though it was not very cold. Great bartender, Gray made a fantastic amaretto sour. We ended up staying for a 2nd cocktail and 2 more drafts. 2 large screens over the bar playing the Ole Miss/Auburn game. Friendly atmosphere for folks from various teams. Went to room to rest. Called in a to go order of pepperoni pizza Flatbread, sticky bbq rib tips (or something like that) and roasted red taters. I was just putting on shoes to walk over when they called saying it was ready. Again, had a coupon for 10% off recieved at check-in. Hurried back to room to eat, they included plasticware (as req) & S&P. All food was fresh, filling, hot and tasty. Not the best things I ever ate, but worth the price. Did like the rib tips but they were a bit fatty for my husband's taste. Just like the earlier bartender, hostess was seemed genuinely friendly. Reserved an Uber to meet us at the street front entrance of the restaurant & we grabbed another drink while we waited. Much bigger crowd than first 2 visits but again served quickly & friendly by a different bartender. Good food, great service, great atmosphere. And we're not watchers of The Walking Dead. Honestly don't recall seeing any memorabilia. Large, many stalled, old style tiled bathrooms, high ceiling, leftover from the building's origins as a...
