My husband and I aren't foodies, but we are harsh critics since we love and eat a lot of good food. Let me just say, this is some of the best damn food either of us has ever had in any state. Our first impression was that it was closed and deserted. Turns out they have a lot of take-out customers. I won't lie, the parking is awkward as all get-out. You park waaay back on a hill behind the restaurant. You can get to the restaurant by either walking down some questionable stone stairs (pictured) or you can walk in the street. Anyone in a wheelchair will need to go on the road. The stairs are quite a climb, so if you have bad knees, you'll also need to take the street. We were the only dine-in customers, but a fairly steady stream of take-out customers came in while we were there. The decor is simple but pleasant and a combination of R&B, soul, and funk was playing. Our server, Ray (a young woman), was polite and personable. There was also an older gentleman there who was incredibly friendly. When he found out we were from out of town, he asked us to sign the "just passing through" wall, which we did. Pictured you'll see our food: fried fish, chicken tenders, Mac n cheese, baked beans, and potato salad. Holy s**t, it was freaking amazing. The fish and chicken were both beautifully fried, but the fish was the star. I can't say enough how good it was. The sides were very good. I suspect the tartar sauce was made in-house, but I didn't ask. Either way, it was awesome. The fish was huge, and I normally prefer my fish sliced thin. I was nearly sick when we left because we ordered too much food. I must address the spice level of the food. We're from Louisiana so not only are we used to spices, we prefer them. I was dubious when Ray said most people think the mild is really hot; however, being unfamiliar with the food, we decided to err on the side of caution and take her advice. I'm glad we did because we wouldn't have been able to eat the food had we gotten it hot. How in the world anyone gets on the Wall of Flamers by eating 6 wings with the Aw Hale No spice rub is beyond me because the mild rub had our mouths lit up. When we go back to Chattanooga, we will definitely return here. Oh, I also feel the mini beers are worth mentioning. My husband enjoyed having beer with lunch without having to buy a big bottle. Be aware their prices have changed and are a little higher than on their website. You can't go wrong with this restaurant, just take it easy...

I really hate to post this but I really can’t stand a horrible customer service experience. Especially when it’s avoidable! I order from them occasionally with my coworkers but this is the first time I had to complain. Waste of time and money. I ordered chicken w/ med seasoning on the side. I’ve never tried the seasoning so I figured I’d have it on the side. THEIR website lists that option and allows you to put notes. Once I received my order, my chicken was seasoned. I figured I’d try it anyway before reporting this mistake. I love hot but this is unbearable. I cannot taste the rest of the plate because my mouth is so hot. Anyway, I called & the girl was rude. She hung up on me because she couldn’t explain how it’s my fault because I ordered it. I explained that I ordered it because of the ON SIDE option. Had it not been there, I would not have assumed it was an option. Kind of like collard greens is listed but I had to call to find out they don’t have those. MORAL OF THE STORY IS UPDATE YOUR WEBSITE IF YOU DONT PLAN TO ACCOMMODATE YOUR CUSTOMERS AND IF YOU CANT REFUND $6 or replace the wings you ruined. Common sense and good food service tells me you should’ve left it off if you couldn’t fulfill my request. Similar to steakhouses that under cook steak just in case, so that it could be cooked further if there is a mistake because you can’t uncook it just like you can’t undo seasoning but it could’ve been added. Whew. I support black businesses but not if I can’t get decent customer service and not hung up on....

D***-fine Nashville hot fried chicken. I ate it only hours ago and am fantasizing about it again. It was tough deciding between the leg quarters, tenders and catfish so I went with leg quarters and am I glad I did! I'm usually a Nashville hot chicken sandwich kinda guy but I was *not* missing the bun on this one. Their fried chicken took me back to all of the really good southern fried chicken places we used to have around Chicago. It has that PERFECT crackly-crisp skin, and inside is superbly tender meat. Add to that crispness, the amazing combo of spices that makes Nashville Hot? Your eyes will roll to the back of your head when you eat this. I had the medium spice (I wanted Hot but didn't have the time for my stomach to complain about it), and it still took me for a ride and cleared my sinuses out. Couldn't be happier. I cannot get over how truly delicious this chicken was. The plate is a good deal and comes with 2 generous sides. The Mac and cheese was really good, and the fries had the same spices in the chicken-- I always enjoy that. Surely their other sides are just as good if not even better. It's a great spot to eat, as well. Everyone was super nice there and I had myself a time. Wish I lived here so I could have them cater some parties!
