I hate giving one star ratings, and I feel that as such, I need to provide details for future patrons and current staff & owners.
Visited Saturday, February 4, 2017 This was the worst birthday dinner I've ever had! It was my 50th, in fact. It sucked! I feel strongly about my one star rating. Our server was...well, absent. I refer to her as our "wait-her", because we waited on her for everything. They were out of sake. They weren't out of sparkling sake though, I ordered that. I wish that I hadn't! It tasted like watered down, flat, "sparkling" wine. We waited forever (more than 10 minutes, less than 30 minutes) for everything, from the first time seeing our waiter, getting drinks, getting food, getting our tab. Each dish came out 10+ minutes apart. My husband received his sushi roll 15 minutes after ordering, then received his ramen noodles 20 minutes after that. None of my food items made it out until he was nearly done with his noodles. And mine arrived one at a time, 10+ minutes apart (3 items). I'm talking nigiri... not something complicated. No ginger & No radish, I thought these were staples in sushi places. NO WASABI, NONE. No wasabi in any of my nigiri plates. None on my husbands spicy roll. None on the plate, none on the table. A sushi house without wasabi is just another Chinese restaurant. Yes, I know what I just referenced there. Spicy roll was null in heat. Not one bite. Rather bland actually. My small plate came out second to last. I thought small plates were "appetizers." They are listed first in the menu...I guess I just assumed. My small plate, Sake Tataki was alright. The sear was ok, but it came out room temperature, nothing remotely warm. The shaved brussels that were on top were crispy. The rest were soggy, coated in ume, overly sweet and limp. The shot of plum sake wine, was very flavorful, but really sent that dish flying over the sweet bar. My yellowtail nigiri and salmon nigiri were just ok. They were room temperature, not the slightest chill. I feel they had to have been sitting out too long (I did not get sick though). And I've already mentioned both were missing wasabi. I really look forward to the wasabi XING. I saved the woman next to me from experiencing the horrible "sparkling" sake. I didn't mean to listen in, but she was literally sitting no more than 6 inches beside me. We were sitting on a long bench, you know the kind, the bench that has several 2 seater tables. It felt awkward, no one was talking. The whole place was quiet, lifeless. Yet, an air of pretentious circled about. The ramen noodles were exceptional! They alone earned the one star I've given. However, they were my husbands. I only got to taste.
I want to qualify my 1 star rating. I know what good sushi restaurants are! I don't always expect a hot, wet, hand towel to wash my hands before dining at a good sushi place. But I do expect good service, radish and/or ginger garnish, to enjoy between different food items. I expect sake, and if its "sparkling" sake, I expect it to be so. I expect wasabi (or wasabi paste) - at every sushi restaurant, no exception. I moved here from a large metro area with a lot of Japanese and sushi restaurants. I've only ever experienced awesome sushi in the 25 years I've been enjoying it. The kind of place I experienced on Feb. 4th, at Two Ten Jack, in Warehouse Row, failed in so many ways. I won't be back. And I will try to detour friends who are considering going there. There are several other sushi places in the area, one of them has to have better service and...
Read moreInteresting Place. Try to be Izakaya but added too much of "American Hip Style. The name izakaya is a compound word consisting of “ i” (to stay) and “sakaya” (sake shop) but I didn't feel like that here. Interior was combination of industrial and Asian.
Service was ok. My waitress was nice and pleasant but made me wait here and there. It seems all the servers are not so attentive, should I say not seasoned? My perception was It's not my table so i don't need to be aware of what's going on.
Sat down, water was served, chit chat with server, ordered one order of Hamachi Nigiri. first while I looked at the menu for ramen. Receptionist guy who sat me down brought me a plate of Nigiri, no dish of wasabi or gari (pickled ginger). I waited for my waistress over 7 min. A few other waitress saw me looking around but they all passed by and no one notice I don't have soy sauce dish or wasabi condiments. (I was sitting where I can see a waitress putting paper wrap on chopstick and she was busy talking to someone across from her, turned out to be that was my waitress so while I was waiting for her to come back and take my ramen order, she was chit chatting over there) She didn't come by once until I finished the meal to ask if I were doing ok. When she came back after my meal, she was quicker and better, offered me desert, too.
There were 4 Ramen choices. Tonkotsu (pork broth)- Kyushu style, two types of Shoyu (miso base) - Hokkaido style and Spicy crab garlic noodle. I should known better by name that the last one wasn't Ramen. I asked my waitress how it was. She said it was spicy and taste good. Since I've had other style ramen before so I ordered the spicy carb garlic noodle. well, well, well. It was a ramen noodle pasta. It was tasty but wish I was told that it was not Japanese ramen and there was no broth. :( It should not be listed under Ramen section.
Hamachi Nigiri was so so - Two pieces of fish had different size and thickness. Too much rice and it wasn't done cooking. The beauty of Nigiri which mimicking shapes of swimming fish wasn't there, it was like a fat pig was wearing a hat. Whether it met Sushi 101 style or not, it didn't feel so fresh and it was missing that smooth buttery yellow tail taste.
I give 3 stars as it was different experience but disappointing because eating Ramen that taste like Italian Pasta with rap music wasn't something I expected to do at Izakaya. Also Izakaya should be relatively cheap and this place is very pricy. $29 dinner for one and I didn't even had a single...
Read moreWe made dinner reservations last night and were seated promptly, and were actually very excited to enjoy ramen since we eat it frequently in Atlanta, and recently went to Japan. Vibe was cool when you walked down the steps to enter the restaurant, it reminded me of when we went to Japan some of the restaurants being downstairs to get to them. First, the server sat us and there was another large party she was attending to so it took a while for her to get our drinks and take our order, that was totally fine with us. We ordered the tonkatsu ramen, gyoza, brussels, and two beers. The tonkatsu came out first, which I was assuming would come last since it was part of the “dinner” section of the menu, but I think it could also be confusing since we ordered off the small plates and standard izakaya tradition is they bring the small plates whenever they are made fresh. Our waters ran out because the ramen was way too salty, and lacked flavor. Noodles were undercooked, although the amount of noodles was good, the egg was not marinated and this was really disappointing. A good ramen will have a great broth and a perfectly made egg. It looked like it had been sitting out a while, also to note you do not receive a full egg. A full egg is standard with ramen. The gyoza was ok, nothing to write home about and a little less crispy than we normally receive. I did like the size and filling flavor (sauce was lacking), but way too expensive for the size, you can normally get double the amount for the same price, and even in NY they are much larger for the same price. The Brussels finally came out and these are our favorite vegetable. We always get them if they are on the menu and while the crispiness lived up to the hype, there was no sauce and barely any seasoning so the were just super dry Brussels. We didn’t even finish them. The waitress forgot about our beers so she brought them out after we had already eaten. The bill was way too expensive for the quality of food being put out. I would not eat here again, and I judge mainly on the food quality. If the food is great and service isn’t, I will still go to many...
