Me and my partner went here Friday night. The atmosphere was welcoming. We had a good time with lots of laughs, especially when the headliner came on. However, he lost me at the end.
I understand when going to comedy shows you can’t have thin skin as there will be raunchy jokes and sensitive topics. But, I feel there are some topics you don’t touch or make jokes about, and this headliner decided to joke about unaliving themselves off of the Skyway bridge, a notorious bridge where people often jump from.
As someone who struggles with this themselves, I felt this joke was in bad taste and insulting to people who have lost their lives on this bridge. This left a sour ending to an otherwise fun night.
I urge the comedians at this club to review their material and better determine which lines should not be crossed.
Edit: Adding this portion in response to the owner's response. It appears the owner has gotten quite offended at my subjective review of their establishment instead of taking the constructive criticism to improve their business and build it up into the popular establishment I know it can be.
I initially gave Clearwater Comedy Club 2 stars because I did not find most of the jokes from the comedians leading up to the headliner to be quite funny. This isn't because I thought the jokes were bad. Comedy is subjective, and I simply did not find them to be funny. Yes, jokes can fall flat on some people, that is why it's subjective. The headliner I found to be quite hilarious up until his last joke. That little bit I felt deserved an extra star.
However, despite all this, I am changing my review to 1 star based purely on the owner's unprofessional and highly defensive response in the face of criticism. As a small business, being able to adapt to take criticism from your customers to improve your business is important to success.
While the owner does not write the comedian's jokes, the actions of the comedians that they allow to perform at their establishment directly affects the image and reputation of the club. That's just how public perception works.
I'd urge the owner to learn how to take constructive feedback and take their customer's experience into account before responding so aggressively to their reviews. It seems to be a trend for this owner to respond negatively and passive aggressively to any review less than 5 stars.
If this is how the owner reacts to anything less than praising reviews, I suggest going elsewhere...
Read moreFun little comedy club in Clearwater Beach. I went with my wife and three other couples last night, February 8th, and it was a really fun night with one exception. They featured four comedians; three of them, including the headliner Jay Moreno, were actually smart comedians and very funny. It takes certain level of intelligence to pick on the audience, who is there to laugh, without being offensive. Jay was smart and hilarious, without being vulgar. He had funny stories about his life, the white and latino communities (which my wife found super funny being Latina) parenthood, etc. and showed tremendous amount of patience dealing with two ladies from the audience, who had one too many drinks. The only complaint I have was the first comedian, who I can't remember his name. He was not only NOT funny, he was vulgar and insulted his audience. He was the only one laughing at his offensive tone and slander. NOT a smart comedian, so I think he should change careers or clean toilets...
Read moreThis show was bad. I gave it one star because the seating and stage area was very nice so I was optimistic. All 28 reviews before mine gave it 5 stars, not sure why. Unfortunately, my wife and I went on a Friday night and found the jokes to be very crude. Jokes ranged from racism to sex to diarrhea. Some were good but most were bad. No wonder today's youth is screwed up. Pretty sure the comedians were stoned. I may as well just had a few margaritas myself and told some bad dad jokes. I was looking for a good laugh but this was not it. Waste of time. I recommend finding...
