TLDR: Service and food was lacking the Cameron Mitchell quality I expected. We have dined at other CM restaurants during opening week and had fabulous food served by great wait staff - so I was disappointed when we did not receive the same experience here.
I'll preface this with saying I really really wanted to like this place.. so much so, that I choose to make a reservation here for my birthday dinner. But this experience was subpar and I felt the need to share what we experienced. I was greeted by 4 or 5 employees lingering around the door making the small entryway space feel cluttered. Although it was mentioned directly in our reservation that we were celebrating a birthday, it was never mentioned by the host or wait staff and we were never asked if we were celebrating anything special. (Not totally necessary but we were very overdressed compared to the other patrons dining so I figured someone might ask us why) Our waitress was obviously just very recently trained or under-experienced with serving in fine dining restaurants. She barely let us reply or ask questions without her listing off more buzz words/ingredients listed in the dishes and cocktails. She basically reiterated the menu items to us out loud without letting us get a word in. It seemed like most of the staff were not as polished as expected. The drinks (Tokyo Nights and a brut rose) tasted great and arrived promptly. We ordered the pretzel bread but the cheese spread it came with was underwhelming. We then ordered the regular filet with the added $ peppercorn crust, the regular ribeye, Mac and cheese, and the "anna" potatoes. The temperature on both steaks were great but that's unfortunately where the praises end. The peppercorn crust is actually just whole peppercorns slabbed on top of the filet and it was barely edible. The ribeye was very chewy and not seasoned well so we ended up using the salt and pepper shakers on the table. Mac and cheese tasted ok until the cheese eventually congealed because it was no longer hot by the end of our meal. Potato Anna was forgettable and un-flavorful - if you got a bite without the sauce it tasted like you were eating a thin slice of plain potato. We decided to skip dessert because of our experience with dinner. Overall, we did not feel like the food or service justified the almost $300 bill. The interior/exterior design is gorgeous and that is what originally prompted us to make the reservation, but it does not make up for the fact that the dishes and staff are seriously lacking the qualities to make this a top tier steak house in Columbus or even on par with other CM restaurants. I hope the criticisms mentioned can be improved upon so other people have better experiences here...
Read moreMy cousin had his 28th birthday dinner here. I ordered a simple side salad add chicken. The waitress asked if I wanted the fish that came on the salad (can’t remember what the fish is called) and I immediately responded no because I don’t eat fish. I was glad she asked because I hadn’t read that on the menu (not saying it’s not there but I just didn’t read it). The food comes and I start shredding my chicken and mixing it into my salad. I go to take a bite and something is off. I start picking through my plate and there lies the fish that the waitress literally asked if I wanted. I spit the food out and wave down the waitress. She apologizes and brings me fries while I wait for my order to be fixed. She brings the food and I put it up and order my dessert. She brings the checks and my bill is nearly $100 (not bad for a steakhouse). As you can imagine I’m confused so I take a look at the bill and they took the meal they majorly messed up off and recharged me for the one they bought back. I don’t know about anyone else but usually when the restaurant messes up they eat the cost of the meal. The waitress told me that since they fixed it and I kept it they would charge me. Me not wanting to make a scene I just ate my dessert and paid the bill. Bottom line for me is had it not been a preference but an allergy Butcher + Rose would’ve had bigger problem on their hands and I still WOULD’VE PAID FOR MY MEAL ! How does the waitress ask if I want something I respond no and you still put it on the plate, then have the NERVE to charge me for it. Y’all charge too much to be making minor mistakes like that. Like I said before $100 at a steakhouse isn’t bad BUT I DIDN’T EVEN GET A STEAK!! I paid that for a chicken salad, a crème brûlée and cocktail. I actually believe the waitress thinks the fries she gave me made the situation even. The dining space is unique and beautifully decorated perfect for photos and content but sadly I won’t be recommending or returning to...
Read moreVisited for the first time for a friends birthday celebration. When I first got there I thought the atmosphere was nice, but the restaurant is smaller than I expected. I knew the restaurant was expensive, which I have no problem paying at all, but I expected for an expensive meal To get quality tasting food Which was not the case at all but far from it . I ordered the eight out filet mignon, which was just a basic ordinary steak. Nothing special and my friend ordered the salmon which she loved. She also ordered a side of two scallops that cost $22 which is $11 per scallop that tasted horrible. They really should take scallops off their menu.. We both ordered cocktails and we were never asked if we would like to order more cocktails so maybe it's a one cocktail minimum I have no idea but we weren't even asked if we wanted to order more drinks ..And maybe we were never asked because we rarely seen our waitress. The food was mediocre definitely nothing to brag about. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. I felt bad for my friend because I chose this restaurant for her birthday celebration. Butcher and Rose Is overly priced for the quality of food we received and the service was horrible for an upscale Cameron Mitchell restaurant. No one in management came to our table to see how things were going or to acknowledge my friend's birthday. I feel our waitress was only interested in a tip and not providing the Cameron Mitchell experience I am used to receiving. I definitely wasted $275 on food that was very subpar. and horrible service. Again, this was my first and definitely my last visit, and I will never recommend Butcher and Rose to anyone. Cameron Mitchell really should make the effort to improve The quality and taste of the food and make the expectations that the waiters and waitresses should be more attentive to customers. Very...
