Cafe Illyria — Restaurant in Columbus

Cafe Illyria is a cute little restaurant in downtown Columbus [halfway between the Ohio Statehouse and Grant Hospital] that serves only breakfast and lunch; they are open Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Their lunch menu includes gyros, subs, Reubens, wraps, and panini sandwiches. Their menu is handwritten on a chalkboard on the east wall; they also have printed laminated menus that may be easier for some to read.

In classical antiquity, Illyria had been a region in a portion of the Balkan Peninsula [near the location of modern-day Greece] that had been inhabited by the Illyrians. Many of the items at Cafe Illyria appear to be from that part of the world.

Cafe Illyria is not accessible to wheelchair users or to people who have difficulty using steps. Their entrance and their outside dining area are at the same level but both of those areas are several steps down from the sidewalk.

But if you can get there, Cafe Illyria is a wonderful place in downtown Columbus to eat...

I recon this is the best breakfast deal in the neighborhood- standard breakfast staples, but also a touch of Greek if you're so inclined (I was). Order at the counter, and they bring it out. And will come back out and check on ya. Good selection, cooked while you wait, and reasonably priced. I came back later in the week (here for a conference). It's on the basement level, so a short flight of stairs down but even so there is outdoor seating with a street view. You get a good secluded vibe. I gave it a 3* for atmosphere, but I liked the "tucked away" feel of it. Just don't bring your granny with her walker. I suggest: free refills on coffee. I have always heard about this local gem, and finally had sometime to check it out. I got the spicy chicken panini with a side of French fries. The chicken panini was very flavorful and tasty. The sandwich was the perfect size for lunch. The French fries on the side were awesome definitely had a crispy crunch to them. Overall the sandwich and fries combo was tasty. I was really impressed. The only thing that I would have changed about the sandwich is the cheese. But the service was fast and the folks were pretty nice.
