House taco appears to be under new ownership. Online ordering was not working when I attempted for pickup on a Monday between 2 and 330 which is odd for a downtown restaurant. I called and they answered "hello" without identifying themselves and I had to ask if it was house taco which seemed super unprofessional. I placed my order over the phone and although I have been before, the online menu didn't indicate protein choices or extra cost for adding protein which made it difficult for group ordering with new customers. I wasn't crazy about the fact that I had to give full credit card to number, ccv, and zip code over the phone to pay rather than pay at pickup. If you aren't going to have online ordering than we should just be able to pay at pickup, this doesn't seem secure.
When I picked up there didn't appear to be any customers, only an employee behind the bar and a group of men sitting at the bar who were just kind of hanging out but did greet me and "welcome" me to the restaurant. Which also seemed kind of odd. Very much an "owner and his buddies hanging at the bar" vibe.
The food itself has same flavor but spice level was way higher which may be preferred to some, wasn't to me. Especially with a kiddo. Quality was ok but I asked to hold the order since I was picking up in 30 minutes and I'm not sure it was since it was ice cold by the time I got home but it was a to go order, so...
Read moreHouse Taco what a hole in the wall "diner". I was referred to this establishment from a friend on their social media, so I decided to support them and check it out. Upon arrival I was shocked to understand this isn't a sit down environment as you have to run back and forth to retrieve your food and drinks to get them back to your table. Also there was no tab option so my card was charged multiple times every time I wanted another drink. Staff was friendly but seemed overworked at times, and at the time I went wasn't a busy time. Food was a reasonable price, but lacked that Mexican food experience I have come to expect from other restaurants of similar nature. Now I normally wouldn't review a place of business off one bad experience. I was open to the ideal of returning and trying other items on the menu and giving them another chance until... my friend who was the reason I came to this establishment, parted ways with the company. Now I understand my dining experience I had was in fact to possibly disgruntled employees, because they were not being paid for their work services by the manger/ owner or whoever. In order to run a business, it starts at the top and works its way down. You have to treat your staff right so they will treat your customers right. Due to recent findings I won't be spending my money at this restaurant when the owner refuses to...
Read moreDecided to try somewhere new tonight and was excited to try as I had heard good things. We walk in and see it’s pretty empty and take a seat at the bar. We were not acknowledged at all. My husband went to use the restroom and was accosted by one of the older lady servers demanding to know if we were part of the “private party”. He said no and she commanded he turn around to follow her outside. He grabbed me and she showed us a faded chalkboard sign that said “Happy Birthday” not even sure if I could make out that it was “closed” due to this. No other words were said as she moved the sign to a place people could actually see it. No apologies to see us or even have us dine outside on the patio. So we walked away with a bad feeling in our stomachs that wasn’t just hunger. I have checked all their social medias and website and it mentions nothing about being closed tonight. Unfortunately I do not think we will be returning to try out at this point. We were able to walk a little further to Dirty Franks where we were greeted with a smile and seated...
