Did not realize Obento on the 16th Street also have unagi don. The unagi don here was more traditional, with only unagi and a few pieces of danmuji (yellow pickled radish) over the white rice, compared to the poke style in both Kyoto Ramen and Poke Club. Simple, but delicious. They also had freshly made sushi, ramen, bento, bowls, poke and a variety of starters, as well as Japanese snacks and drinks. The restaurant was bright and neat, and the minimalist setting was quite similar to the food stands at the Tokyo subway stations. Despite the ongoing construction outside, I was surprised to see many dine-in and take-out patrons during lunch hours, not to mention it was one of the few surviving restaurants right on the Street.

So I used to go to this place a lot when I worked downtown and I was excited to get the chance to go back. I was very disappointed in what I got. First, I wasn't expecting a large container of kimchee, although for the price they were charging I could have gotten a jar full at one of the local asian markets, but the small container I got wasn't even half way full. It was mostly stacked up in the middle and only the middle hit the half way mark. Then for the price they were charging for the pot stickers I'm used to getting 6 and I only got 4. I'm very sad in how bad this place has gotten. As they are now I would recommend avoiding them.

We had the Dragon Roll, the Spicy Ahi Poke, the Spicy Pork bowl, and Spam Musubis. The dragon roll was delicious and fresh, and was thoroughly enjoyed. The poke was also wonderful, although the rice was clearly not freshly made and would’ve been better with fresh rice. The pork bowl had wonderful seasoning but the pork was a little tough, and the musubi sauce was amazing but the nori was soggy from the seran wrap and the spam was very thick and undercooked. Overall, would go again and try different items on the menu :)

I tend to order the chicken teriyaki when I go here. It's quick, it's easy, and it tastes pretty decent for its price. I never spend more than $15 here for food and a drink so please don't compare this place with a more upscale location downtown. The place is really small to the point that I think 10 people might make the inside of this place full, but I guess that's what I expect thinking of a Japanese obento box. If you go, align your standards for a fast-casual type place and you won't be disappointed. If you want a high-end glitz and glam type of restaurant, this isn't it. It's really suited more for a quick and filling lunch without emptying wallets for downtown restaurant. The only time I didn't have a positive experience dining here was when I ordered some food to go and the noodles got a bit stuck together when I got back to work. I think my caution for you if you go is to plan to eat whatever you order not long after you purchase it.

I know a lot of people talk about their boba (bubble) drinks but unfortunately, I've never ordered those from this...

I didn’t want to do this but after attempting to call the restaurant 5 times today, I decided this was necessary. After order on Saturday of Sunday once I woke up had been painful a stomach ache and diarrhea. My stomach still feels like it’s trying expel bacteria.

While I couldn’t taste anything odd about my salmon avo roll, my partner mentioned how it smelled strongly. I didn’t notice.

This is sad because I really like Obento sushi, but proper cleanliness was clearly not taken care of when handling the raw salmon.

I am well aware about the curing process raw salmon has to go through to get rid of bacteria, and it was either not cured long enough, cured incorrectly, or staff had managed to contaminate it after curing. I would like a refund of $28.62 because it definitely wasn’t worth the pain and time...

The Avalanche sushi roll was disappointing. It had a sour taste and did not smell fresh, with some bites overly spicy while others lacked flavor. The inconsistency made it unenjoyable, and I would not recommend this roll.

The beef teriyaki bowl also fell short of expectations. Rather than having the familiar savory-sweet teriyaki flavor, it was dominated by ginger with a sour aftertaste. The rice was oversaturated with sauce, leaving the dish unbalanced and unappealing.

The only highlight was the edamame, which was cooked well and properly seasoned with salt. Pricing is fair, but unfortunately, the overall dining experience was poor. The restaurant itself also had an unpleasant urine-like odor. Good prices, but I...
