Went there last night and got profiled by the female brunette bartender around 11:30pm. Stood there with a guy friend at the service corner of the bar in a holographic blouse patiently waiting my turn. He was visiting from Pittsburgh so I figured since he doesn’t drink heavily anymore we could go to a spot like this to enjoy on his night off. After waiting a few mins at the busy spot of the bar next to the opening area, a pale smaller girl walks up and stands right next to me at that same part of the bar in a brown coat and standing a little shorter than my height on my right side. The straight haired brunette behind the bar that we had waited for, comes up to her right away to offer her service. 🤨 The bartender proceeds to close out her tab as if I’m not still standing right there the whole time. I hadn’t moved and I was in a shirt that shined like a disco ball. My friend and I were both confused as to why she “couldn’t” see us standing right there the whole time. My guy friend (who was as white as she is) sat next to me and we both looked at each other like “is she serious?” and proceeded to talk about why we just got ignored so blatantly like that. She then finished the smaller girls orders and proceeds to come up to me as if we didn’t just see what she did, I understand being busy but being deliberately ignored isn’t cool. I finally ordered and got my drink from her but did not go back up to the bar area again the rest of the night. I warned my guy friend as we sat down by the bathroom hallway about how the subtle racists in this city operate that way on purpose. She didn’t want to take our order because of me, as my white guy friend walked up and got attention right away for a refill 20 mins later without issue. 😐 I usually loved going to this place but between her attitude and the thick stench of puke in the room from messes not being cleaned up properly the days before, I think this will be the last time I have my friends meet up with me here knowing what I know now about the type of ppl that they have running this establishment these days. I’ve lived in Denver for a few years now and unfortunately ppl like that bartender last night, have become more prevalent in what used to be a more open and accepting culture of the downtown areas of our Mile High city. It ain’t what it used to be when I first got here back in 2013. You would think that in 2023 interracial pairs of people in public would be treated as equal as anyone else in the room yet here I am, talking about how the bartender decided to act out when I approached her bar. How embarrassing it was to have my friend from out of town whom I haven’t seen in a few years, witness her attitude toward me and be shocked that she really just did that thinking we didn’t notice. I could’ve talked to her manager about it, but considering it’s probably the same management that hired her… I didn’t want this struggle to fall upon deaf ears. I was also a bartender and shots girl throughout my college years (ironically where my visiting friend first met me years ago) so I know how business gets when the bar is packed, her attitude toward us wasn’t cool. I didn’t want to start yelling at her or do anything else to perpetuate her stereotype she already had against me, so I went home calmly last night. After some time this morning, I felt the public deserved to know what they’re getting into when they come to this specific place these days. The women’s bathroom also didn’t have any soap anywhere and the paper towels along with the TP were all completely gone from both stalls around midnight. I had to flag down some dude walking into the men’s bathroom to spot me for some TP just to use the women’s stalls. I also spent half of my hand sanitizer bottle just on that one night of using their bathrooms since nobody could remember to put some soap on their sink counters the whole night. 🤢 Heavily disappointed with how the service and the scene of this bar was presented to my friend and I...
Read moreInitially recommended by our nearby hotel as being the only bar open that was serving food, if we knew what we know now we would have stayed back to order from the hotel kitchen!...At a few minutes past midnight while Santa was being tracked by NORAD, Tarantula's was quiet with very few patrons as predicted. Despite this fact, the bar was cluttered and filthy. We happened to finally get the attention of the bartender at 12:29 a.m. to order food and drinks. We reluctantly had to interrupt the conversation she was involved with another staff member (also doing nothing behind the bar) and an obviously more important customer. order food, to which she informed us - ripe with attitude - that kitchen closed at 12:30 a. m. ... Understanding that it was Christmas Eve and all, but we waited almost 15 minutes to be acknowledged...and technically it wasn't quite 12:30...but not being petty we wouldn't have even tried to order food if we had waltzed in that late! BTW, we informed our hotel if the experience and they shared it with other staff, hence no longer being recommended. Appaloosa has taken their place, deservedly so. I won't specify our hotel, other to say it's close, exceptionally nice and starts with an "H". We each reluctantly ordered a mixed drink and suffice it to say, should've just got a Big Gulp for an nth of the cost, twenty times the soda and about as much booze as Tarantula's puts in their drinks! Oh one more thing, a woman who we met at the bar had just moved to Denver by way of my former city of San Francisco. After a nice chat with her -she was rather boozy and just having fun - she ordered the 3 of us a round of shots. We stepped out for a smoke, and upon returning she had collected the money for the shots yet did not make ours, nor did after reminding her. Even after last call we waited and SHE NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED US AGAIN. We're very easy to please and go out of our way to show appreciation to individuals so it matters to them. We were downright neglected, ignored, embarrassed, disappointed and mistreated when treated at all...
Read moreFirst as a ride share driver if I have any riders going here I will let them know my experience as a new customer then offer them a free drop off and pick up to to any bar within 10 miles of this place.
I started going to this place usually after work. Get my shot of jamo and coors light draft get food if I’m hungry. Last two nights I got ignored for 15 minutes trying to either order drinks while other whi came up to the bar after me got served. At first like the place only person that greeted me right away was a bartender with long beard . The ladies treated me like shit. So tonight I did a TikTok to show how when I went to the bar I was ignored but when other customers walked up were checked on. I was trying to order food and one more round but after getting ignored I started recording a TikTok video the blond bartender banned me after she claim to know who my sister in law was even when I brought up customer issues I was told to never come back. That’s all good here is a video of the encounter and horrible customer service. I have worked at two banks, managed hotels and worked for my sister in law at blush and blu as security. I have been in the hospitality and service industry for years. When you have worked that long in this industry, you recognize poor service and preferred service. The person in this video claims to know my sister in law and her previous bar blush and blu. Maybe I got horrible service cause I had an association with my sister in laws...
