Where to begin...this restaurant came highly recommended from a co-worker of mine. He spoke volumes of the food, service, and just the general experience so this was something I had been looking forward to on my vacation. Needless to say my experience wasn't nearly as enjoyable and here is why: The initial seating area we were directed to was dark and by the bathrooms, seeing an open booth we asked if we could sit there and one of the servers said it was cool but our waitress seemed put off by it. I noticed a slight scowl as she waited for us to reseat ourselves as she brought our chips to us. The food was sub par for the price we paid. I ordered street tacos: Carne Asada were tasty, Carnitas and Al pastor were waaaay overcooked (the texture of the meat was almost crumbly it was so dry)and our food arrived maybe 7 minutes after ordering which is never a good sign especially when a restaurant is actually busy. Our waitress seemed bothered the entire time. When she noticed 2 of 3 tacos basically went untouched she immediately got an attitude. And was offended that we did not like the food. Truthfully, she bears the brunt of 60% of this review. Bad service can ruin even the best of meals and Otra Vez didn't even have good food to fall back on. I know, I get it, we all have bad days but jeez next time just call in. Way overpriced for the quality of service and food we recieved. I almost feel like Otra Vez should have paid and tipped me for remaining polite (although their employee could not) and trying to power through that horrendous meal. The 1 star is for the ambience as the atmosphere was the best thing and the plating was pretty as well (pics to give props where props are due) BUT you can't eat...

Read moreI don't know who thought of saying that this was a Mexican restaurant. It looks like every Latin stereotype is jammed into one big restaurant with skeletons everywhere under the guise of being Mexican. The salsa that they serve in the beginning with chips was watery and not spicy at all. The tacos were served in a way that suggests that whoever made the menu hasn't actually been to Mexico. I had chiles rellenos. They use the wrong kind of cheese. I've never seen mozzarella in one of those before... They don't have tripe tacos, they don't serve beef tongue tacos, and they didn't have horchata. I'm not saying every Mexican has to have that, but if you're going to have an extensive taco menu, tripe tacos and tongue tacos should be at the very top of the list. The music they were playing was pretty much all Latin music except Mexican music. I heard some Cuban, some Puerto Rican, and even some Colombian music. There was no Mexican music. Instead of calling themselves a Mexican restaurant, they should just call themselves a Latin restaurant.
Even the decor was confusing. Part of the decor had the same design as the underground subway system, called the Metro, in Madrid, Spain. Then you had the skeletons everywhere and some random streamers.
It wasn't the worst restaurant I've ever been to, in fact it wasn't actually terrible at all. It just wasn't Mexican.
If you've never been to a Mexican restaurant, and you've never had authentic Mexican food, this is probably going to...
