BANDS BEWARE: I played here with my band last week and it was a nightmare. We had high hopes for the new ownership and were let down hard. The staffing was grossly inadequate. For starters, they didnโt have a sound tech in house. Thankfully, my band had a sound engineer with us who managed to save the day, otherwise there probably wouldnโt have even been a show.
On top of that, they didnโt check anybodyโs presale tickets and nobody was charged the cover that was agreed upon prior to the show. Itโs not fair to only charge the people who bought presales to support the bands directly. So my band and the other band refunded everyoneโs presales, because unlike YMH, we actually care about the people who put money in our pockets. We managed to fill up the dance floor, and Iโm happy that we were able to make it a great night for our audience (thanks to our own sound guy). But needless to say, neither of the bands involved were compensated per the agreement for the show, as a result of incompetent management.
If youโre a band thinking about playing here, I recommend having a contract ready and a sound tech on hand.
Thereโs more I could gripe about, but thatโs what made it worth leaving a review to warn...
ย ย ย Read moreI bought a ticket ($15), ordered a beer ($7), and left a tip($2) before i started dancing but that's not the beginning of a happy story.
I had been drinking a lot of water throughout the night (4 cups). I wasn't sure if it was a big deal for the bartenders to wash the reusable plastic water cups and asked if they machine wash their water cups. This struck a nerve. The blonde female bartender got mad and literally yelled at me they were closing and i had to go to the other bar.
I said I'm not even ordering anything, just asking a question. And they said well we are closing go somewhere else!! I mean keep in mind this bar is inside a dance room where there is dance music playing well past the closing time of the bar. So I just asked if I made her upset, in order to say sorry and she just yelled again at me they were closing the bar and I had to go! So that answered that question and i walked away to talk with my friends.
Later on, a manager of sorts approached me and kicked me out. He said I was "cut off" and had to leave.
I'm mostly just unsettled over the lack of common decency I experienced by the staff and would appreciate an apology...
ย ย ย Read moreI might be somewhat biased because I'm playing at Your Mom's House or played at Your Mom's House depending on when you're reading this. Your Mom's House has turned into the premier spot to see up and coming Denver locals and touring acts. Each month, the calendar at Your Mom's House is packed with thick line ups.
Your Mom's House has a very warm and comfortable atmosphere. There concert floor is separate from the bar so conversation really flows at Your Mom's House. Also Your Mom's House has darts. I love darts.
The only problem I have with Your Mom's House is the name. I referred to Your Mom's House by name throughout this review just to pound in how fast the joke gets old. They sell merchandise here. Ask yourself, are you really trying to hang out with someone in "Your Mom's House" apparel? What if this becomes Denver's CBGB's? People will be interviewed on documentaries talking about the time they satisfied dozens of people at Your Mom's House. Nice. Real nice.
Small price to pay for this Denver gem. Shine on you...
