Not dog friendly, we were forced to set outside with our dog in the rain because they said the city had rules against being inside. We decided to give Dark Sky Brewing Co a second chance and went there yesterday. My wife and I had our masks on and waited at the door to be seated as directed. Some guys on bicycles , who showed up after us disregarded the sign and instead jumped the line and seated themselves. The staff did nothing to intervene. We then waited at the door to be seated for at least 5 minutes, several staff walked right by us and barely gave us a look. After we were finally seated we were given water and we waited at least 5 more minutes and my wife went to the counter to try and get someone's attention. Again we were ignored. Finally the young woman who seated us came back, said she didn't know what happened to our server. She took our order and walked away. After several minutes went by and after the guys on the bicycles had been served the young lady returned and retook our order. All the while numerous staff were hanging around chatting with each other and completely ignoring us. After our beers finally arrived we were approached by another staff member and asked how our beers were treating us. Frankly, we drank our beers, paid our bill and left. We will never go back to Dark Sky and will tell our friends how we were treated there. I suspect it was because we were wearing masks or because we don't look affluent or because we are elderly but we were treated rudely, dismissively almost like they didn't want us there. We live in Flagstaff and like to visit the local taprooms and drink craft beer. If that's the way they treat locals then the heck with them....
Read moreStopped in at Dark Sky Brewing on a winter day while road-tripping from Canada on a mountain bike adventure. Woke up to 10 inches of snow, which meant no riding—but sometimes the second-best option turns out to be an absolute win. And this brewery? It delivered.
First, let’s talk beer. I ordered a flight with a sour, a hefeweizen, and two IPAs. Every single one was solid, but I have to give a special shoutout to the hefeweizen—as someone who grew up in Germany, I know a good one when I taste it, and this one hit the mark. Cloudy, smooth, full of that classic banana-clove balance—just fantastic. The sour was also top-tier, tart and refreshing, exactly how I love them. And the IPAs? Both were great, but the hazy IPA stole the show for me—juicy, aromatic, and super well-balanced.
And then—the food. Oh. My. Pizza. I ordered the Margherita, and I’m not exaggerating when I say it was the best pizza I’ve had in years. Perfectly blistered crust, just the right amount of chew, fresh toppings, and that wood-fired magic that elevates everything. You know it’s a good pie when the simplest one on the menu still leaves you speechless. We also had a salad and a bowl of olives, which were a great complement to the meal—fresh, flavorful, and well-portioned.
The atmosphere here is exactly what you want in a brewery—cozy, welcoming, and buzzing with good energy. And the staff? Super friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to chat about the beers.
If you find yourself in Flagstaff—whether you're skiing, biking, hiking, or just passing through—Dark Sky Brewing is a must-visit. Great beer, phenomenal pizza, and the kind of place you immediately want to come back to....
Read moreSorry guys! This was the worst pizza I've ever tasted and the rest wasn't worth what we paid either. My friend and I drove in from Santa Fe through a snowstorm. We could't wait to have a delicious meal with good brews in Flagstaff. Unfortunately everything was closed because of the snow (what!!??) except Dark Sky. We ordered the Caesar salad, the focaccia with balsamic and oil, olives, vegan pizza and two stouts. The salad was the one item without much to complain about, except that it was served in a bowl that was so small you couldn't serve yourself without spilling it all over the table. The focaccia was ok, nothing special and not served warm or particularly fresh, but the worst part was that the balsamic and oil, which were also served in a dish too small and narrow to easily dip bread into, would not mix at all, there were no spices, just about 2 inches of straight oil sitting on top of the balsamic. We were super hungry so we ate most of the bread dipped in straight oil (gag) then choked on the rest with the strong balsamic. The olives were all un-pitted green olives, nothing special at all and not easy to eat. The stouts just tasted weird, and we're both stout drinkers. Someone was trying to be clever but failed. But the very worst, and most disappointing was the thin crust pizza. In spite of being thin crust, it was limp and doughy and the "wood fired" black on the back made the whole pizza taste like some kind of gas! It tasted like butane or propane, not wood smoke. It was awful! We scraped the, eh, toppings off of it after our first slices. This was an $80 meal for 2! and we were not even able to finish it as...
