My wife and I went here during part of our anniversary weekend trip. We chose it because of all the great reviews it had. For a breakfast bar in a ski town, the food was on par. So, no real complaints there. However ...
My wife has a registered service dog for her PTSD (a small Boston Terrier), so no surprise we get a lot of questions about him when entering businesses. The hostesses here asked if he was a therapy dog, we showed his tags, as well as the plainly obvious red vest and leash that says "service dog". Then they seated us. We noticed we weren't being served right away when a bald guy dressed in kitchen apparel came to our table and told us due to health codes, my wife wasn't allowed to have her dog in the restaurant. To his credit, he was kind at first.
However, when provided the dog's ID card and after he was informed under the ADA Act her dog is allowed to be with her at all times in public places, the owner (Chad I think his name is) got really passive aggressive and started making it about other customers getting offended. We asked if he was requesting we leave, to which he made a passive comment that he wasn't suggesting we leave, just that our dog would be a health issue for his OTHER customers. He then was pointed toward the back of the ID card that has all the legislation that states the dog is allowed in public places with my wife, to which he just raised up his hands and started backing away, loudly stating that he wasn't going to argue with us and we could do whatever we wanted as he retreated back in the kitchen.
Our waitress then came to the table awkwardly, and when we asked if we could speak to a manager or the owner about how that guy treated us, she basically said that he was the owner. So yeah ...
Suffice to say, we felt awkward and unwanted, and to make matters worse, we were sitting directly beneath a speaker which was broadcasting sound for a football game. Not a minute after the "owner" left, the sound went up uncomfortably loud which may have been a coincidence ... but maybe not. The owner never came by our table again.
To sum it all up, we were only in Keystone for a getaway trip, so even if we do return, Haywood Cafe will not be on our list of businesses to support. It's one thing to be opposed to animals coming in your business, but entirely another to act immature and petty. "Chad" is basically telling people it's okay to to go to war for his freedom, and it's cool if your coping device for PTSD is pharmaceuticals, but having a service dog that sits quietly at your feet is offensive to him and his customers, and thus he will make you feel awkward and embarrass you in front of everyone around you.
But to be fair, the food was alright, so I'm leaving him 2-stars for his business to show some people can be realistic even when they don't like...

In all our visits, the diner was always full til about 10 - 10:30am.
This visit, ordered: Country Fried Steak w/an extra side of Bacon Waffles / Scrambled Eggs Breakfast Burrito (to-go)
👍 Country Fried Steak .... cliche but, no simpler way to describe it but, delicious! The gravy was superb!
Burrito 🌯 was huge! My husband and I shared it and it was enough for both of us.
Service was as always 5⭐. Quick AND friendly yet courteous.
View outside the diner is the best specially in the fall as the diner faces the mountains with the beautiful fall colors! Dining with a view, indeed!
Will definitely be back when we are in the area! Parking is not a problem.

Read moreI came to try Haywood today. JODI was our server. I ordered the "Popper" because I love jalapeños and cream cheese. I added mushrooms, which were not in it. I didn't bother to fuss about it, instead just decided to eat it.
After taking 1 bite the cream cheese was too garlicky and I didn't like it. When Jodi checked in I advised her of my dislike and she said "Really, I like it." I then asked her if she could take it off our check, as I only took one bite. She stated, "No I DONT THINK SO, we don't do that." Jodi advised me that I could order something else. So I ordered a Sexy Mexi because I had no other option.
I then asked for a manager which she advised me, "He's not here."
Later a man named Christian came up to me and advised me that he was the manager. Christian asked what happened and I shared with him what I shared with Jodi. I then explained to Christian that I had one bite and didn't like it. Then my boyfriend had a bite and shared the same dislike.
Christian was very courteous and polite and made everything right by taking the meal...
