Ah, BrickTops in Greenville, South Carolina! What a delightful expedition for this humble food enthusiast! Let's pull up a chair, shall we, my dear Foodie Friends, and I shall regale you with my recent experience.
Now, one never quite knows what to expect venturing into a new establishment, does one? But I must say, the promise of prime rib has a certain gravitational pull, much like a perfectly risen soufflé beckoning a hungry diner. And indeed, the prime rib at BrickTops did not disappoint! It arrived, a magnificent slab of rosy, tender beef, whispering promises of succulence. And oh, my dear friends, it delivered! Cooked precisely as requested, it was a veritable celebration of bovine perfection. One could almost hear the contented mooing of the happy steer from whence it came!
And the accompaniments! A "loaded" baked potato, you say? Well, isn't that just the ticket! A humble spud elevated to something quite grand with all the accoutrements. It's the simple pleasures, isn't it? Like a perfectly buttered piece of bread, or a properly seasoned potato. It sounds as though BrickTops understands this fundamental truth.
Now, brussel sprouts. Ah, those little cabbages that have suffered such a bad rap over the years! But when treated with respect, when roasted to a delightful crispness, they can be a revelation! It warms my heart to hear that BrickTops has managed to coax such deliciousness from these often-maligned vegetables. It speaks volumes about their kitchen, wouldn't you agree?
And the service! Friendly and attentive, you say? Magnifique! For what is a good meal without a welcoming face and a helping hand? It's like trying to bake a cake without the proper measurements – it simply won't do! A gracious server named Caroline can elevate even a modest dish, and it sounds as though the folks at BrickTops understand this crucial ingredient.
Now, let's talk about the sweet finale, shall we? Bread pudding! Oh, the possibilities! A comforting, often rustic dessert that can be either sublime or… well, let's just say less than sublime. It bit of a seesaw. An "overpowering" caramel, you say? Ah, yes, sometimes the enthusiasm for sweetness can run a little wild in the kitchen. But, the perfect solution! More crème anglaise! Voilà! Like a culinary first aid kit, that creamy, custardy sauce can often rescue a dessert from the brink. It's the little adjustments, the willingness to adapt, that often leads to a happy ending, both in the kitchen and at the table.
So, all in all, my visit to BrickTops in Greenville was a rather successful one. A few minor bumps in the road, perhaps, but nothing that a little savoir-faire couldn't fix. It's these little adventures in dining, these explorations of flavors and textures, that make life so deliciously interesting, wouldn't you agree?...
Read moreWe are in Greenville for five days visiting friends and spent our second night having dinner at BrickTop’s. The ambiance and service were excellent and made for a very enjoyable evening. The décor in the restaurant allows for conversations to be held without shouting. There were four of us at the table.
Our meal began with two appetizers, Deviled Eggs & Millionaire’s Bacon ($14) and the Shanghai Shrimp ($14). We also had a Butter Crab roll ($20) off their sushi roll menu. There deviled eggs and bacon were my favorite. Perfectly creamy and savory, the eggs were complimented by the bacon which was covered with melted brown sugar, cayenne pepper and maple syrup. If you like “Bang Bang” shrimp in many restaurants you will like the Shanghai Shrimp here.
We went with a Duckhorn “Decoy” Cabernet Sauvignon ($62), from Sonoma. You get a strong berry scent at first with a more subtle vanilla smell later. As per the tasting notes, you should get allspice and chocolate flavors after you have tasted the wine.
For the main course, both wives opted to go light and had the Tuna Tartare ($16) appetizer which was presented as a mini tower with layers of avocado, mango, pine nuts and wontons in addition to the tuna. They both enjoyed the mixture of flavors, and the tuna was sushi grade.
My friend went the comfort route and tried one of Brick Top’s most popular dishes, the Prime Meatloaf ($28). The portion was generous and is usually served with a side of stir-fried vegetables. He opted to sub in their Creamy Whipped Potatoes, which were soft and velvety.
I chose the Chicken Milanese ($28). The serving like the meatloaf was generous, about 6-8 ounces pounded very thinly, parmesan crusted and served with capers and a champagne beurre blanc. I also subbed out the usual side of fettuccine alfredo for their Twice Baked Potato.
The chef at Brick Top’s team in the kitchen is executing the meals at a very high level with perfect sauces and subtleties of each flavor to shine through.
We finished the meal by trying their carrot cake. You can pass on this one. It was small, and served warm. Not my favorite version. With that said we decided to order espressos with a side shot of Anisette for each person. Pour half in the espresso. Then do a cheers with the other half, and slowly enjoy...
Read moreMy wife and I went here for our anniversary. We both have always wanted to try beef Wellington and when we saw they had it here, we set our hearts on dining here. After a short wait for a table, we were sat and were quickly greeted my our server Stefan (I think I spelled correctly). He was extremely polite and was attentive for the remainder of the experience ie: he ensured drinks were filled, plates cleared, etc. We ordered the meatballs and spinach artichoke dip for apps and both were amazing. They were also spaced out well time wise. I got the spicy tuna roll which the only thing I didn’t like was the cucumber in it but that’s on me for failing to request to not have that added. My wife and I both ordered beef Wellington. I got the au gratin potato’s and broccolini and my wife got a twice baked potato and fettuccini Alfredo. My personal favorite was the au gratin potato’s. They were cooked perfectly and cheesy. The beef Wellington was amazing. While not as crispy as I thought it would be, it was still great. I highly recommend it. This is 100% on our list of “go again” restaurants. The food, was great and so was the staff. The atmosphere was enjoyable. Not too loud to where you couldn’t hear your own conversation like some places. At the end of our meal, we received an anniversary card signed by the staff which was a great touch. We did have to skip desert due to most of them having nuts and me having a nut allergy, but I’m sure those are just as good and maybe they’ll add some more but free...
