This restaurant is a mixed bag. We stayed at The Ambassador, now part of Hilton Tapestry Collection, and had the Hilton Gold level $$ to spend each day at 'the restaurant'. We're not used to this 'extra', but were excited to try it out. The breakfast choices are slim here, and some are odd, but the childs Bacon Egg and Cheese (BEC) is probably the best bang for the buck. It's a normal sized BEC (which is $18), and just has less bacon, which saves you $9. The Bread Pudding French Toast ($18) is not fried or soaked in egg batter, so this is a bit of a misnamed item. It's more just 'toasted' bread pudding with sauce on top, not French toast. If you try this, make sure you order another side of sauce. The avocado toast ($17) was fine (not something I usually order, so there's that), the toast with an egg (?$17) was fine. If you're looking for your usual - pancakes / french toast / breakfast sandwich, your best bet is the kids BEC, but that gets old after a few days.
The big kicker with this restaurant is the closing time. It seems to change everyday, although displayed at 9pm on the menu. They closed at 8:45pm most nights, except our last night when they closed at 8:40pm. Not a big deal unless you have $$ to spend left on your Gold $$, and want a lite meal (The bar stayed open if drinks are your thing, until a little later). I get it, it's the restaurant industry, and there were many options around. It didn't take much to figure out why others were going elsewhere, causing this place to close down early.
Luckily there's a Papa Johns across the street and with a 50% off coupon, cost $20 for a Large specialty pizza and 2 liter. About what a meal cost at this establishment.
My son is a Hilton Team Member, and the breakfast team treated him pretty well, but the night manager did not care, and offered to send us anywhere else local for food after 8:40pm.
If you're wanting a typical hawaiian breakfast, you'll probably want to go somewhere else. The fruit plate / cup is strawberries, watermelon, honey dew melon and pineapple. No guava, kiwi, or other local fruits.
No real full table service for breakfast or dinner. Just walk up service, with delivery to your table. For a Hilton hotel, this may be a lower level or service than they are used to.
We didn't eat dinner here often, but the did once and the pizza we had was OK. But like stated earlier, Papa Johns is across the street and their pizza, though slow, was better than we get at home.
Overall, quite disappointed with the Favorite Son and so it got nicknamed Least Favorite Son. Without the Hilton $$ to spend, or the Hilton Team member discounts, I would NOT have dined here after the...
Read moreIf you’re staying at Romer Waikiki at the Ambassador, then I wouldn’t recommend eating here. Hotel is exceptional, but the conjoined restaurant is disappointing. Food is overpriced for what it is and service isn’t like the service at the hotel. My wife asked the bartender/server for the bathroom, and he asked if she was staying at the resort and that she had to have a keycard. He gave her a very annoyed/frustrated look as she walked away (I was watching from the entrance of the restaurant). After she went to the bathroom, she told him that the bathrooms were nice (to prove that she was staying at the resort) and he proceeded to tell her about his stomach/diarrhea problems. We ordered two waters, a small cheese pizza, and the chips and artichoke dip appetizer ($35 including an 18% tip). He didn’t give us waters, so after asking for them 5-8 mins later he filled the glass up a little over half way. I asked if he could top them off, but he instead tried to give me the glass vase to fill up myself. Since I couldn’t hold it with the two cups already he rushed past me to set them on our table. They closed the kitchen 15 minutes before the closing time on the menu and public websites, and two gentleman walked in to dine. He turned them away, but welcomed his two friends that came in shortly after. My wife and I cleaned our table off, and left the restaurant after we finished our meal. My wife looked back and saw that he was watching us leave with an annoyed/frustrated look once again. Overall, disappointing experience. On the other hand, my wife and I are extremely pleased with Romer Waikiki at...
Read moreWe stayed at the hotel attached to this restaurant. We ate here at least one time a day for 5 out of the 8 days because it was easy. There were 11 people in our party. Every single one of us had a bad experience more than once with rude staff. Questions were met with snappy answers. We were rushed out once we finished eating even though there were no other guest. The computers were down one morning and our pre made açaí bowl took forever to come out because the ticket did not print to the kitchen and the front counter staff couldn’t be bothered to go back and let them know. That was my last straw and the reason I am writing this review. Like I said, the food was decent and super easy to grab when you’re staying at the hotel. We obviously wouldn’t have kept coming back if that weren’t so. But the staff here are terrible,...
