On a spur of the moment for Christmas, we stopped in at Matador to have lunch. We had plans elsewhere but saw Matador and decided to check them out. LOVE mexican food! First of all, the atmosphere is awesome. We grabbed the fire pit table. The seasonal menu is small but highly encourage you to check it out, it had some really neat dishes. For instance, the chicken and sweet potato Tamale - superb. The chips were not greasy and great flavor. The salsa was fabulous, a real kick to it. Mentioned to Mgr how much I really wanted a hot bowl of soup. He brought cup of chicken tortilla to try. Thought it was absolutely spectacular coming from San Diego! It has a kick to it and not too salty. He was so awesome, asking, "What could we do to make it better?" Make it ALBONDIGAS! The only downside was it was not crowded and our waitress didn't come back twice to ask our party of six if we wanted more to drink or if there's anything else she could do. We had to track her down twice and it took about 10 minutes for her to even come over. We never got asked to refill our drinks. That's the only downside or the service would have gotta 5. If you are in Boise, highly recommend checking them out.

Wow. Matador is one of my go to places that used to be reliable and consistent. Apparently maybe i havent gone in a couple years because boy have things changed. I got a to go order because I was sick, which is maybe why the bartender did not feel lile giving me happy hour pricing on the haba prawns. She also charged me for thebiced tea they werent sure if they had dumped yet or not while I waited the 30 minutes it took to make my haba prawns and the special which was supposed to be stuffed pickled peppers... My total was almost $40 with tip, i am glad I did not tip well...her service was awful, she was very busy but spent a lot of time talking to employees rather than her customers anyway, once she dropped the tea she basically never came back, some sugar would have been nice, but she never did a check back. When I got to my friends house I opened the bag to find they forgot the tortillas and I took a pic of both dishes I got...the boxes are not big boxes, so keep that in mind ...the peppers...pepper...it is actually only 1 split in half..was $14, my old tea w no sugar was $4.50 ( she didnt offer to put in a to go cup either so I had only drinken about 1/3 due to lack of sweetner) and the haba prawns had 6 or 7 normal sized shrimp and a little wedge of polenta for $15. Ive had the shrimp dish on happy hour several times in the past, its delicious and we'll worth the $7 or so they charge...this was still tasty, but totally not worth the cost. I felt ripped off, and will probably try and find another go to late night place for my travels thru boise in the future. So disappointed, and u guys used to have a 5 star rating from,me...one of the few!

Best restaurant salsa I've ever had! Atmosphere was great! Lots of outdoor seating. We had a 30 minute wait so we got drinks at the cafe next door. You can drink at the bar while waiting too. Check the hours. They do only allow 21+ after certain hours sp watch for the appropriate times. The wait staff was amazing. We had our main waitress, Danielle, who stopped by to take care of us a lot. But also we had a handful of other staff stop to bus dishes, ask about us, help with food and drinks. It was great! Also, a great service for busy times: they put you on the waitlist and text you when you can be seated! So you can walk around (really cute area) and dont have to be waiting right there. The decor totally matches the theme. The menu is posted online (they do offer a seasonal menu too, so look for that). Service for food and everything else was at a good pace. We went on a Saturday night right at peak hours during PROM rush.... and we didnt really have to wait long at all. We will definitely put this on our list to visit again when we are in Boise.

My 2nd time dining here was tonight. The food was so good last time I knew I had to go back. The Smoky margarita was creative, fresh, and most importantly delicious. I had the grilled jalapenos, the habas shrimp, and the matador guacamole. The jalapenos were worth fighting over. I mean like come to blows with your friend if they take the last one fighting over. The shrimp was fiery and delicious. It was served with polenta, however I expected it to be more like grits than a cake. Even though I was looking for a grit style it was a pleasant surprise paired well with the shrimp. The guacamole selection was just okay, but no complaints. Alicia behind the bar was killing it as she be bopped around helping everybody! She isba great example of what service should look like. They seem to have many people like this because the last time I it was here I had the same experience! Thanks to the establishment for a great evening!
