Come here for a drink at the bar and some jazz, but then leave for dinner. I was misled by online reviews and I came here unknowingly for dinner. The "dinner menu" was a piece of printer paper consisting of only hotdogs, burgers, pizzas, fries, and onion rings. The closest thing to a salad was the LTOP on your burger. The only vegetarian options were both flatbreads (cheese or margherita), or deep-fried sides. There was no salmon or pasta AS PICTURED online. The waitor barely checked in on us, our food took forever, we were never offered a second round of drinks, and we had to fetch our waitor for our check. The wine selection was mediocre and over-priced, and the old fashioned was not a 2oz pour. The only positive thing about this place was the history and the atmosphere.

We thought this was a restaurant, a bar and grill. It’s not. Take a look at menu. It’s the menu for the movie concessions, minus popcorn and candy. Here is a picture of my flatbread. While it was fine, it was overpriced and served on a plastic plate. Our waitress was nice but not engaged at all. We never received our cocktails. 10 mins after we ordered cocktails, she said we had to go up to the bar and order our own drinks. We had to go ask for utensils and napkins. Folks, this was a Saturday night in December in Power and Light. Great space but a big disappointment.

Delightful evening! Had an absolutely phenomenal time here listening to a very good live jazz band on a Friday Night! Amber made us exceptional drinks and the GM Tiny came over to check on us and everyone was delightfully friendly and the atmosphere was very fun, with comfortable seating- we like the swivel chairs but there are also sofas and barstools etc. I can’t wait to go back.! I like that this place has a bit more lighting and is less crowded/seating is NOT packed in as tightly as green lady lounge. Much more comfortable! This is my new fav spot!

To the owners of this establishment, what the hell is wrong with you?? We used to frequent quite often bc it was nice.. great menu with quality food, great staff, great atmosphere & great entertainment. Tonight was my 3rd & FINAL attempt at "giving it another shot". Time before last, there were only 3 other tables in the whole joint, menu gone. Just a cheap plastic display listing roughly 6-8 bar like food items, a waitor who seemed either very overwhelmed (for no reason) or he had no clue what was going on. Same w/ the Bar tender, didn't even know what an Old Fashioned was. The very last time we went, no one at the hostess stand, a dj spinning to an empty restaurant & a person who seemed like they may have worked there but was just wandering around. After sitting there for about 5-7 minutes w/ no acknowledgement, we left. Some time has passed since those last 2 visits so tonight I thought, lets give it one last shot. When we walked in, the hostess, a waitress & security guard all standing there talking & laughing. Didn't bother seating us, basically just waved us to go on in. Nice, a live band! BUT the place was empty except for 1 guy at the bar & a table of 5 young adults. As soon as we sat, a guy flies by saying he's bringing water. He zips right back, sets the waters down & we never see him again. Review the still very limited menu, decide on what we want & wait for him to come back to take our order. We wait..i look around. The bartender is standing behind the bar eating & playing on his phone. The 3 employees we saw when we arrived are still up at hostess stand flirting & playing around. We wait..I look around. Bar tender still shoveling food in his mouth & still on his phone. Finally, i get up walk over to the bar & ask bar tender if he's the one we have to place our food order with? While chewing his food states, " well, you can but it'll be an upcharge if you do"..what?! I go back to my table & just stand there looking around for ANYONE who gives a shit about this place &/ or it's customers and you know what? THEY DONT!! We left Johnnies Jazz for the final time tonight sad, SAD to see a company posses such a unique & beautiful venue with so much potential to be great, could've been one of the hottest jazz clubs in the heart of KC's Power & Light District yet they will be permanently out of business very soon bc they simply didn't care about what they had....

Only pick Johnnie’s Jazz Bar & Grill if you like tons of attitude and overpriced, boring food and drinks. My friends and I picked this restaurant (P&L location) because it looked like a fun place to grab a bite to eat before a concert. We had reservations and were seated promptly and that is the only positive thing I can say about our dining experience. The food was mediocre at the very best and definitely overpriced. Naan bread was burned on the bottom, the meat in the tacos was so tough and gristly that they were inedible and the KC Philly cheesesteak was disgusting. We ordered the charcuterie board and the quality of the meat and cheese was less than what you would find in a child’s Lunchable. Service was a total s**t show! Different waiters dropped off food and drinks at our table that we had not ordered but they tried to charge us for, some of the members of our party didn’t even get their meal until after the rest had dined and refills were absolutely not on this wait staff’s agenda. This is just a tiny sampling of the issues we encountered and when they were brought to the attention of the manager...well that is when things REALLY went downhill. The manager was indignant, condescending and downright hostile. At this point we just wanted to pay our bill and get out of there but for some reason they kept stalling with providing our CORRECT tickets even though we were standing right there at the register/bar waiting to pay. The manager finally just threw my ticket at me and told me to get out of there. Even the security guard (that the manager had signaled to come over as he was ranting and raving) was appalled at the manager’s behavior. It is such a shame that this restaurant aspires to offer a fine dining experience but the manager does not have the ability to empathize with customers and he becomes belligerent and rude when they complain instead of calmly asking what the issues were and how he could resolve them. Save your money and spend it somewhere else where you will be appreciated instead...

This place was such a disappointment. First off we had a reservation for regular dinner time on a Friday night. The service was a joke. Waitress did not seem to have any idea what she was doing and had to check the bar for pretty much everything we ordered to see if it was available. Which by the way it was not. Half the drinks on the menu couldn’t be made and by the 4th time that the waitress came back to tell us they were out of that drink we asked what ingredients are you out of and she told us all of them. The drink had gin and tonic and some other things. We ended up ordering a straight up gin and tonic and lo and behold they could make that. So what exactly were we out of?? Also seemed like a full bar but couldn’t make any of the drinks we asked for. Bartender was also on their phone the entire time. The food was terrible. Came out on paper plates. What a classy dining experience. No sauce on any of the burgers or the chicken sandwich everything was extremely dry. And don’t bother asking your waitress for sauce as she will have you take your own entree off her tray and then promptly ignore you the rest of the night until you have to ask 5 times for the check. What can be expected though when the manager spends more time singing on stage than actually managing anything in the “restaurant”. While is voice was absolutely amazing it was insane to have such awful service while the manager is just singing on stage. Last terrible and weird thing was the security at the door…what on earth are we securing? It felt weird and untrustworthy. Especially since the security guard securing god knows what was spending too much time flirting with the hostess and gabbing with the manager. All in all…do not come here, not worth it, waste of money, waste of time....
