After working overnight, all I want is bed and a breakfast-oriented snack. I wasn’t feeling the muffin I brought for days like these. A bagel sounded pretty good though. My weary mind despaired that I would have to drive to 39th but in the wilderness that is Power & Light, the 13th street location called out to me (via GPS). I made my way there and was blessed by the parking gods. I found a spot quickly and near the location. (It was by Cosentinos) The vibe was good. The staff oddly chipper for the early hour. I ordered double schmear, and usually it’s never quite at other bagel shops but this place got it right. As I drove home, I didn’t wait to eat my bagel. Good cream cheese waits no one. It was all I dreamed and more. I pretty sure I shared my cream cheese with my steering wheel, gear shift, and mask but it was worth it. I’m drifting off as we speak and all I can think about is what I’m gonna get next time. I definitely will be...

PLEASE DON’T TIP! Tips are not shared with the employees! They assure potential employees that they are shared when hiring, then corner them into signing something forgoing tips in exchange for a dollar or two above minimum wage per hour. You’re making your pricey bagel even more expensive (for no reason) if you tip. While the Department of Labor is VERY clear about the legality of all of this, the owners here simply assure me that they’re “lawyered up” enough to handle that end. If you raise a complaint with the owner, you get cut from the schedule. It’s a good scam, because most employees here don’t have the resources to object, but it results in an incredibly high turnover rate and diminished quality of service. PAYMENT IS FOR GOODS, TIPS ARE FOR SERVICE. I truly don’t understand how they’re still operating like this, but they take in LOTS of tips that really should be going to...

I had a horrible experience. When I went into the "meshuggah bagels" establishment, I let them know that it was my first time there. They did not give me the option to toast my very hard cold bagel. When I asked why they wouldn't offer it to me even tho it was my first time and I was ignorant of how the business establishment worked. They went on to say it was because as a customer, It takes too long to service me. This was in regards to toasting my bagel. As their customer I was not worth it. That was horrible to hear and to be treated as if I didn't matter and I wasn't worth the time. I left feeling empty, upset and sad at the same time. And worst of all, do not feel like I got the value for the price...

I grew up in NYC. I never know what to expect when getting a bagel anymore, especially in the Midwest, where I live now. Even when I visit my sisters in NYC a lot of the bagels are way bigger and doughier than the bagels of my youth. So I was pleasantly surprised when I stopped in at Meshuggah Bagel. They are the correct size and tasty. The cream cheese was delightfully creamy and fresh, and the perfect consistency. I did not get it toasted. I prefer the texture of a fresh bagel, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. You won’t get a NYC atmosphere here though. The place is spotlessly clean, and the staff is friendly and pleasant. To me, that’s a good thing.

Visited this downtown location for the first time recently. My son said it had been ranked as one of the best bagel places outside of New York and I agree 100%. Not only are the bagels out of this world, they have a huge array of flavored cream cheeses as well as sandwiches available. The decor really sets this place apart. It is the perfect combination of classy and Homie with many interesting items to look at while you wait for your order. I highly recommend the dirty martini cream cheese spread if you like savory. This place is definitely more than one step better than any other bagel place I’ve visited.
