This (July 2024 for July 4 week vacation) was our first time visiting the Keys and we stayed at Duval House B&B on Duval Street. We wanted sushi so we walked maybe a block down the street to this restaurant.
but not only did she answer the question but explained the sake production process and sweetness-to-dry differences with a diagram (see the diagram she drew) and poured the nigori sake for us herself - which by the way was delicious! I learned that sake should be consumed soon after being bottled, unlike with wines which should be aged. All the time living in Asia town in Cali, and none of the resturanteers took the time to teach that - but she did! Soon, we got to talking about our trip last month to Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley. During the conversation, the manager unexpectedly poured us a glass of rose wine from Southern France for tasting (see photo added to my Vivino app)! Wow! We learned new wine information specific to French and Argentinian wines, and new wine to add to our tasting list and cellar! We ended up being the last patrons in the restaurant as it was closing. On our way back to Duval House, we stopped at a souvenir shop and realized we left a credit card. We returned to the restaurant, which was closed but had a male employee inside who opened the door and helped us search for the card. He remembered that the manager had put it somewhere and called her - right as she came breathlessly rushing in! It turned out that she had noticed our card lying there after we had left and ran out of the restaurant down the Main Street looking for us in various shops. WOW! I’m certainly grateful and impressed with the customer service as well as the quality of the food and sake, and I recommended that my mother eat there when she vacations in October. I’m just now posting this in September 2024 after getting sick then busy after traveling in...
Read moreI went here for my spring break and thoroughly enjoyed the food but it took so long to even order and eat food. The staff was very unattentive and when we were seated, they did not even hand us menus. They didn’t ask for our drinks until 10 minutes later when we received our menus and were very slow. The place is very nice but the timing and wait took forever. We got our sushi even before I got my entree. I ordered gyoza but they completely forgot and eventually didn’t include it in my bill- giving it to me free of charge. They forgot the soup/salad that came with our dishes and took more than an hour to even come out with main plates.
The food itself was okay and the kid’s space shuttle was creative. The seaweed soup is actually powdered because I’ve tried the exact same soup from a Rowe’s that come in individual packs of three for $3. This side dishes are small and the the portions were okay but it’s kind of pricy. If you’re willing to splurge for sushi there in Key West, then this could be a good place but the waiters are very slow. Sushi was kind of more expensive than somewhere you could get in Florida like Jacksonville or Orlando. The eating and waiting took about two and a half hours which was way more longer than expected and more than half of that time was us waiting for food. Overall, if you’re on a lucky day, maybe you would like coming here but I personally did not have a wonderful experience...
Read moreSit outside and enjoy saki and Vegetable Tempura, Edamame, and Tuna Tataki as you people watch and enjoy a relaxing evening near Duval Street- but not on it! For adults the atmosphere is relaxing and quiet. For kids, the chickens and their broods provide entertainment. The food- amazing! I have been eating at Origami for many years. The quality of food has remained a constant. Be adventurous and try the baby octopus ( favorite of 14 year old son) or one of the many rolls. My favorite is the Volcano roll. Start with one of the many appetizers (or just order appetizers) and you will not be disappointed! Dining on your own? Sit at the Sushi bar! You are guaranteed to feel special and most likely will find yourself next to someone...
