Part of Town Square since April of 2019, but a known entity near San Diego for forty years prior, The Broken Yolk CafĂ© has captured Las Vegasâ attention by offering âhigh quality, homemade Food in large portionsâ to the tune of Southwest and Henderson locations plus the recently opened space at 201 South Las Vegas Boulevard.
An expanding concept with over thirty-nine locations across five states, Sin Cityâs newest just yards from Fremont Street, it is after securing parking that guests approach a freshly built space capable of seating hundreds, though for a Restaurant so new service is outstanding from the General Manager to servers, bussers and even folks at the hostess stand.
Made (more) famous by an appearance on âMan vs Foodâ it is from a multi-page menu that guests seeking variety are invited to make choices, a full-bar offered from open to close daily also provided to tempt those who desire more than just Mimosas and Bloody Marys.
Priced competitive to Cracked Egg or Babystacks, and approximately half the cost of other Las Vegas Boulevard Breakfasts, it was with Coldbrew Coffee and Cocktails that things got underway, a Frozen Mangonada well-suited to South-of-the-border specialties while âCinnamon Toast Cereal Milkâ and âStrawberry Gin Fizzâ each act as light sippers that compliment The Broken Yolk CafĂ©âs Diner fare.
Opting to dine lighter than usual, though a check-average of approximately $20 per guest will leave most over-sated, first bites came from extra-large Biscuits made from scratch with Butter, a gentle yeastiness amidst good rise attesting to quality with or without added Honey while Onion Rings cook up crispy.
Focusing on items marked as âBYC Favorites,â many of these recipes dating back four decades, it was after splitting a warm Blueberry Muffin that attention turned to a spicy Ranchero Skillet with fried Potatoes plus Chorizo and a Chilaquiles Bowl with dueling Sauces cooked into the Chips.
Not about to pass on French Toast and Pancakes, the latter offered solo or stacked in seven varieties including Gluten Free, those unafraid to indulge are highly encouraged to order swirled Cinna-Cakes drizzled with Vanilla Icing, and although âCrunchy French Toastâ looks better on the menu than it does as plated the flavor is still excellent â though not quite on the level of Tiki Toast that perfectly suitâs âThe Ninth Islandâ with thick slices of Hawaiian Bread, Berries and...
Read moreFinally! After three years of searching for the perfect breakfast spot, we've discovered a real gem. Upon entering you are greeted with brightness, color, and mid century coolness. The round sound baffles keep the high ceiling spot from exploding with noise. Omigoodness, you can have a conversation while nursing a hangover! Not that I personally had a hangover, but it is in the hip and happening part of town.
Our waitress (hey Amber, you rock!) was quick to take care our order and checked in on us regularly.
I can't tell you how excited I was to see gluten free pancakes on the menu. (Actual celiac, not a fad follower.) Yay! I got the combo order and added scrambled eggs & bacon. We also added a side of extra crispy hash browns. FINALLY! A place that ticks all the boxes! The bacon wasn't the tasteless thin cardboard I've gotten most places. (Exception is Morning News, but they ticked zero boxes besides bacon.)
The scrambled eggs weren't overcooked - another box ticked. The grapefruit juice might have come from a bottle, but it wasn't the powder mixed with water I've gotten many times labeled as "orange juice," and having grapefruit juice - my personal fave - is awesome.
If there were any complaints, and I'm scraping the barrel for this one, it was the gf pancakes. I wish I had taken a picture, but I was hangry. Maybe with a mild hangover... Anyway, the pancakes tasted great - the vanilla shined through. The complaint was the denseness & thickness. It was like eating a fantastic muffin in a different form. It's an admittedly petty complaint, because I'd order the same thing all over again tomorrow.
My husband had a combo eggs Benedict - the sopa & classic Benedicts all on one plate. The sauce had split, so tiny demerit, but the taste was perfect so does it really matter? He was extremely happy. He tried my pancake and was the one to equate it with a delicious pancake.
This particular restaurant has only been open a few months, but there are three others in the area - Town Square, Enterprise, & Henderson.
Can't wait...
Read moreI've been to another location but this one is closest to us and a welcome addition to our breakfast / brunch options. Given our experience today it will probably be our number one choice if we have time and so long as it doesn't get crazy busy.
Anyway it's a brand new location and a very cool mid century modern vibe. The space is large and not too cramped. The menu is large and there are many options. My wife was happy to find gluten free pancakes which she liked a lot although they were thick and almost cake-like. Two were a lot of food so nearly half came home. She also liked the eggs and hash browns and she's very picky about those things.
I had an egg Benedict combo which let me have a half order of two of the many Benedicts on the menu. It was hard to pick there were so many and nearly all looking delicious to me. I ended up with the classic and sope. I did notice that the hollandaise on my classic seemed to be a bit split - either that or they added a bunch of butter after - but it still tasted fine. In fact both Benes were delicious. It's my go-to so I'll be trying others next time we visit.
I had black coffee which came in a LaVazza Italian brand cup. It tasted good to me. My wife had grapefruit juice which didn't seem to be fresh squeezed but it was a good quality - she was happy because most places only have orange juice and often not great quality.
Service was friendly, attentive, and helpful. Overall we were very happy and will definitely come back by ourselves or with guests. It would be a great spot to fuel up before touring...
