Worst experience I have ever had! My family and I are staying at the Downtown Grand so we figured we would try the hotel restaurant. We had to wait over 30 minutes to get seated, not because the place was full but because there were several unbussed tables that no one was clearing. The Host finally had to clear one for us. Once we were seated we sat there for over 30 minutes just waiting to be waited on. Not one person even came over, not even to take our drink order, all the while we watch other tables that were sat after us getting waited on. We ended up walking out and finding another restaurant to eat at. The next morning we figured we would give it another try since our party was smaller. It only took about 10 minutes to get seated . Though things were looking up. Wrong. It took about 10 minutes for the waiter to get our drink order. My Regular coffee that was ordered and came pretty quick but was luke warm. The decaf coffee took over 10 minutes and was also luke warm. Had to wait another 10 minute to get our order taken and that was because we flagged our waiter down to let him know we wanted to order. We order two unlimited buffet and one regular breakfast. The small plates of fruit came out quickly and the regular breakfast shorty after that. Then 5 minutes later the monkey bread but it took and additional 25 minutes for the rest of our order to be brought to our table. None of the food was hot except the monkey. The other problem they have is delivering the correct food to the correct table. At least three time while waiting for our order they tried giving us another tables order. The unlimited buffet only works if the wait staff comes to check and see if you would like anything else, which they didn't. Our waiter didn't even bring us our check without us having to ask another employee to get it for us. If I had to rate the food I would give it a 3. If it had been hot when it arrived it might have been given a 5 but it wasn't. This restaurant has about 30 tables. There was 6 waiters/waitresses working at the time. Two hostesses, two people delivering food on top of the wait staff and what looked like one manager. You would think with that many people working in such a small restaurant thinks would run a...
Read moreWhat a nice surprise to find this little joint in our hotel. We hit it up for a quick lunch and were absolutely thrilled with the food. We ordered the pot roast sandwich, the pastrami burger, wings and cheese curds. Four of us shared these plates and we were stuffed!
First, a signature dish is the pot roast sandwich. We had never had anything like this before and it was mouth watering and delicious! The savory sandwich is piled with pot roast and melted cheese on perfectly toasted sourdough bread. Served with fries and a side of the gravy for dipping. You just have to try this! Perfectly seasoned and just melt in your mouth pot roast with crunchy bread. So, so good!
Now, I don’t know what to say about the cheese curds but ‘may I have another?’ They were like crack and I couldn’t get enough! Soft and tender cheese fried in literally the lightest batter I’ve ever had. Crunchy like tempura and super light. It was so hard to stop eating them! Dip them in some ranch and they were the most perfect snack.
The pastrami burger was also delicious. Piled high with pastrami on top of a burger patty and a soft bun. Cooked to perfection and quick to satisfy your hunger, it’s a solid choice.
I didn’t try the wings (I couldn’t eat another bite), but my husband said they were delicious. They were a good sized portion and cooked beautifully.
The atmosphere here is music themed, with a stage hosting live bands on the weekends and possibly the evenings if I heard that correctly. The booths are roomy and have musical instrument cases between them. It’s just a nice vibe in there and a pleasant dining experience. The service was great and the food was excellent - just a nice little hidden gem right there in the...
Read moreWe attended the Culinary Road Trip with Chef Scott Commings (from Wisconsin) at Freedom Beat inside the Downtown Grand. This was such a fun & uniquely offered dinner. There was about 26 people that attended - several of which we had the pleasure of meeting during the pre-dinner meet & greet. The tickets sold out fast for this. The price was $35 plus tax, which included being served a three course meal with beer pairing. I must say for not being a beer drinker, the beers they chose were all amazing and I'd drink again!!! Also the hurricanes flowed a plenty. The meal started with 'Antoine's Oysters Rockefeller, Sausage & Chicken Gumbo with tasso & Andouille. My husband said, hands down, best Oysters he's EVER had ANYWHERE. The Entree was Classic crawfish Boil, Sweet corn, potatoes & Spiced sausage with Shrimp & Grits - JUMBO SHRIMP and Cheesy Grits. This was served family style by tossing it all out on the table covered in newspaper for everyone to dig in. The finale was Bananas Foster done table side by Scott Commings himself & fresh Beignets as good as Cafe du Monde in New Orleans. I cannot say enough good things about this meal, the Chefs involved in this & all the staff of Freedom Beat. They really outdid themselves this first go around. I also have to admit that I felt like a YELP queen there without having to be an "Elite." Everyone right down to the bartender & cocktail servers made us feel super Elite!!! Upon exiting the group dining room, they surprised everyone with gift bags. I can't wait until next months Culinary Roadtrip. I am going to keep that a secret as these tickets do sell out fast & I have to make sure I can get...
