This was the place to go for their 99 cent shrimp cocktail for many years, but like everything else in Las Vegas post COVID, the price has now more then doubled being $2 and some change. I did not go for the shrimp, but instead went for the two item Chinese combo consisting of orange chicken and teriyaki chicken. The orange chicken was edible. Dried out chicken with a hard batter coating, but edible. The teriyaki chicken was another story. The sauce was more of a brown gravy. I should have looked at it closer in the display pan before ordering but did not have my glasses with me. When eating it it had a funny taste, not bad but not a teriyaki chicken taste either. I finished it and thought what a terrible last meal I just had in Las Vegas. I was leaving the next day. My flight was at four in the afternoon. I had a pastry and coffee for breakfast and bought a sandwich in the hotel I was staying at for a late lunch while on the plane back home to Chicago. Literally moments after taking off I became ill and got stomach sick. This happened two more times while in the air and twice when I got home. Thank God I didn't eat that sandwich before flying! I am almost 100 percent sure there was something wrong with the chicken and I had gotten food poisoning. I did get an email from the Fremont the next day wanting me to rate their casino since I played there and am part of their Boyd rewards program. I wrote back explaining what I thought of the quality of their food and what it did to me. Basically I got the standard reply that they were sorry and would talk to their chef. When I read the reviews on this site I now know I am not alone. Maybe others did not get sick from their food, but many do agree the food...
Read moreI ordered the vegetable lo mein with sweet and sour pork and beef and broccoli. The pork was fatty and grisly. (It tasted like cut up pork chops breaded) The beef and broccoli was soggy and barely had any beef in it. The clerk will make sure to serve you a skimpy portion too! I wish I would’ve waited til 9pm for Tony Romas Streak and Lobster for a few dollars more.
Ok so fast forward 90 days.(Today Aug 25th)I wandered into Fremont Casino and Hotel to speak with management at Lanai Restaurant. My life has been very turbulent since I placed the review of this place. With being unhoused and dealing with 100 plus degree weather, the last thing I was thinking about was trying to chisel a casino food court out of a $10 plate. Today the weather was tolerable and I was curious to see what the establishment had in mind as far as making my experience better. The clerk on duty had Gigi Swindle food & beverage supervisor come speak with me. Her words said how can I help you but her tone was snotty like she didn’t want to really visit any customer service options for me. She said “Why you didn’t say anything while you were consuming the product?” My question is why is that important to her if the corporation itself isn’t sweating that detail. Gigi. You didn’t save the casino $10 by blowing me off, you cost them with that crabby attitude. I have a few ideas on why you did me that way but in a place like Vegas with the scammers and the racial prejudice being so rampant what choice did you have? I will never spend anymore money with your establishment and I’ll be sure to tell everyone I know not to. You had the power to offer remedy...
Read moreI've eaten here about 4 times now. I don't know why I return other than they are open all night. Every time I visit though I order the Chinese combo.
The price and food are both fair, but not quite horrible. This trip I ordered the beef and black bean, orange chicken, chow mien and a can of Hawaiian sun which I hadn't had in a decade or more. I hoped the beef and black bean would have some flavor, as I tried the beef and broccoli the previous visit a year ago and remembered it being flavorless.
This visit was much like the past. The orange chicken was kinda mushy, the chow mien had almost no flavor to it, the beef and black bean was mainly bell pepper with meat smothered in a sauce much like the beef and broccoli sauce (minus broccoli, add bell pepper).
Nothing on my plate had really good flavor. All I can say is this place loads you up with food. For the $6.99 combo you get a few pounds of food and its enough to feed 2 people. I never finish it all due to amount and flavor.
I think I need to try something totally different on my next visit. Maybe one of the burgers or the Loco Moco, I also noticed a french dip on the menu this time. Perhaps something else there will...
