Wow. This place was recommended to my husband by some guy he gave 30Ā¢ to as he was walking by on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. So we stopped in for brunch today, and MAN, were we impressed! Best restaurant in town since Macadangdang's was in business.
This place isn't upscale. The food is, for the most part, Southern. The gentleman who served us was extremely friendly and helpful, and the food was fantastic! I had bacon (prepared using a "secret" method), and a chocolate chip waffle with the most amazing Hot-as in slightly spicy- pecan syrup. I can't recall ever eating a retail establishment's waffle that could even come close. The bacon was perfect.
My husband raved about his roasted turkey sandwich with swiss cheese, bacon, and arugula on Italian bread, and grilled. His side order of mac and cheese had bacon and some sort of Cajun spice was apparently very good.
And the cherry on top of the sundae (figuratively speaking) were the very decent prices. Definitely try this place. It's got a funny name, and a very relaxed ambiance (they use paper plates and disposable cups 'cause they want to keep the dishwashing to a minimum), but the food and the staff (2 that I know of) are amazing, and the prices will leave you with enough to visit the candy store across the street, or Prehistoric (my favorite shop in the entire state!), or take in a movie at the Bijou when you're done š.
Edit: Ate here again today (April 27th), and this time had a caramel chip waffle and plain buttery grits. OMG! Not being a southerner, I haven't eaten grits, but the nice lady from Georgia at the next table highly recommended them, so we gave them a try. They were Amazing! I am now a fan of grits thanks to this restaurant š. They also make cheesy bacon grits and sweet grits with hot bourbon pecan syrup (best syrup ever!). I'm sure those options are at least as good as the plain grits. We'll undoubtedly try one of those next time we eat here š.
Fantastic owners and great food. Ya can't beat that over the head with a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNormally I give this restaurant 5 stars, but today I give it 4 stars. Not because the food isn't good or the owners great people, but rather, because the cook got my Entire Order wrong, and it wasn't even a long, complicated order. I wanted an order of chocolate chip Belgian waffle and a cup of cheesy bacon grits. To go, since they were closing in 15 minutes, and we only live 3 blocks away. Hubby picked up my order 5 minutes before closing, and brought my lunch home. Unfortunately, he didn't check to make sure that the order was correct before bringing it home nicely packed up in a secure white paper bag. Imagine my disappointment when I opened the boxes, and found that nothing was correct. Plain buttery grits and chocolate chip pancakes. Both delicious, but neither of them what I ordered. He immediately called them to let them know of the mistakes, but since they were closed by then, no one answered, and they haven't set up voicemail, yet, so hopefully they'll see this and know what happened. Yes, we ate them anyway, and as always, the food was delicious. No complaints about the quality and flavor of the cooking, ever, at Grub's On :-).
So, a couple of suggestions. 1) Staff, please double check the order before you package it up to go. 2) customer, ditto before you leave with it. Anyone can make a mistake, but if you can't get it corrected before you leave, arriving at your destination and sitting down to eat is not the best time to find out about the mistake. It can make for disappointment and frustration. But if you're"stuck" with it like I was, try it anyway. I'll bet you find it absolutely amazing, and who knows? Maybe the mistake will end up being a new favorite. Still, it's best to check your order before you leave with it, and give them a chance to make it right. They really are fantastic people, and I'm sure they'd fix your order with sincere apologies...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOh. My. God. This place is absolutely delicious and unlike any other restaurant in Lincoln City. The dishes are southern style in nature and are very indulgent. They are also very creative and affordable. And they cater to children, as well, with unicorn themed items and smaller meals priced around $4 that include a juice box. I highly recommend the camp ground breakfast burrito, which is a burrito stuffed with eggs, cheese, and pork, then deep fried and slathered in sausage gravy and served with a side of potatoes sauteed with yellow and red peppers. And the jalapeno burger is the best burger in town as far as I'm concerned. We were so stuffed that we didn't get a chance to try their desserts, but we definitely are going to make a trip in just to try their beignets, and we are looking forward to them opening up the other half of the building for desserts, including snow cones/shaved ice (which I am personally super happy about). If you are in the mood for creative, indulgent, authentic southern style cooking, you definitely need to check...
