I've got a love/hate relationship going on with JO's at the moment.
Love: The staff are super friendly and almost always smiling. This is a VERY nice thing to see on a Monday morning on your way to work. When the donuts are done properly, they are amazing. The texture and fluffiness of the non-cake donuts are particularly nice. The price is extremely reasonable for the product you're getting.
Hate: As another person has already stated, the drive-thru wait can be long, even with 2 people behind the counter. If there is a car at the menu board when you pull in, just be prepared to wait at least 5 minutes to be helped. This wait time seems to grow exponentially with each car added to the drive-thru. When the donuts are not done properly they are hard and exceedingly greasy. This doesn't happen very often, but when it does it is a huge turn-off. This is perhaps my biggest issue: If you order anything with frosting on it, be prepared to arrive home with a bag full of half whatever you ordered and half glazed. One of my favorite donuts is the chocolate covered 'Galaxy'. However, I only order them in a quantity of 2 because even though I've been blessed with a phenomenal metabolism, I'd absolutely destroy it if I ate a dozen donuts every day.
When you order a small enough quantity of donuts, they simply stuff those into a baggy for you. The 'coverings' on these donuts are so good, but also have no seal or hardener or any sort of step taken to ensure that the covering stays on it's intended donut. And the staff appear to be unaware of this fact, as they constantly stuff two donuts into a bag with the frosted sides facing each other, facing the bag lining, or permanently adhered to the 'wax' paper they use to grab the donuts.
I have found myself in my kitchen many mornings with a butter knife, scraping the sweet ambrosia off of whatever not-donut surface it has adhered itself to and trying to put it back in it's proper place. So for all of you who enjoy a sizable rush of sugar every morning, take the time in the parking lot to separate the donuts so that they aren't smashed against anything. This will ensure that you arrive at your destination with pristine spudnuts ready for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was a very interesting donut store. We saw some advertisements and thought we would give it a try. I like the drive through option but we decided to walk on. Check out my photos for that. I like the seating arrangement, great to get a snack and finish up homework or catch up with friends. However we were leaving town and it was near the end of the shift and we thought we would check out the store. They only offered a closing time discount for some doughnuts (their classic) and not for the speciality Fancy) ones. š¤ We thought that was very odd, considering they were cake donuts. I can get discounts at other stores for classic doughnuts and for better prices. You would think that if you are closing in two minutes you would want to sell everything so you can start fresh, but that's not my call. You can see in my picture they still had a ton of "fancy" doughnuts left over and it was one minute before closing. We ended up buying a dozen of their fancy doughnuts. Check out the pictures for those. I was really impressed with the glazed croissant doughnut. They have that one down perfectly, light and fluffy fun to pull apart. However the "filled" doughnuts were filled with..... What?... You can see my pictures for that š. Had to eat the whole doughnut to find out what was in it, then had to check the receipt because I still had no idea š±. Then the lemon poppy seed doughnut that was actually pretty good. I was quite impressed with it. The chocolate dough was like any other, then the "maple bar" had a ton of maple and sugar. It was very overwhelming and we divided that one up into six pieces because it was over powering. Then we got another lemon doughnut, and it was supposed to a filling as well. Checked the sides and there were puncture markers for a supposed filling. Apparently it wasn't very "filling". š Anyways if I go back it will be for the glazed doughnuts and maybe the lemon poppy seed. They are very expensive compared to other stores such as Banbury Cross doughnuts, and even Lee's Market place. I personally prefer fritters and so far nobody beats Lees Market for those. Check out my photos for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCamping at Bear Lake for the weekend we journeyed into Logan for some lunch and afterward when looking for dessert options Johnny O's came up. Being a donut enthusiast I decided this was a must try opportunity too good to pass up.
We arrived at the store a little before two. Let me say how happy I am to find a donut shop open past the breakfast hours and well into lunch. The donut selection was still very plentiful, the only thing they were out of that we wanted was an apple fritter. However they did have a Chop Suey fritter to try in its place.
We were greeted by a friendly young counter person who answered all of our questions as to what was in each spudnut. She was very patient with us as we made our final selections.
In the end we bought a dozen. Our favorites in no particular order were the German chocolate, maple bacon bar (so much delicious smoky bacon and it was chopped which makes every bite full of bacon goodness) buttermilk bar, and the coconut pie spudnut (which was so tender and flavorful I wish it was on the menu daily not just a flavor or the day) and last but not least their blueberry cake one was a must have and one I will buy again and again.
There wasn't a bad spudnut, just flavors or combinations we preferred over others. The Bavarian one was tasty, I just like my donuts with whipped cream over custard, but that's my own personal preference. The cinnamon rolls were both flavorful, but the frosting is too sweet for our tastes.
Overall you can bet we'll be back here again buying spunuts anytime were visiting from Wyoming. Worth the...
