My wife and I came here on a Friday night when we were in town from Portland for our anniversary weekend. We planned to do a fancier dinner on Saturday and walked into The Sandbar on Friday for a quick light dinner. Our server was new and told us she was in training. She did fantastic and was super friendly and attentive without being at our table too much. So the service was great. I like to cook and I’m often pretty critical of food when I eat out. I have to say that the food here was really fantastic and it totally made my evening! We ordered salmon nigiri and the fish was these big, fat slabs of delicious fatty salmon. Good cucumber pickles and seaweed on the side. We also shared the Caesar salad and added the crispy salmon. The salad was fresh, the dressing was made on house and was super flavorful including fresh lemon, and was just enough quantity on the lettuce. The salmon was, again, a pretty fat piece but what really made it awesome was that it truly had just a little bit of crispy crunch on the outside but the inside was so creamy soft and barely medium rare. Lovely! Last, we got all of that with a side of fries. Most of the time fries disappoint me, but these were the battered kind and super crispy on the outside and fluffy moist on the inside. If I knew the brand I’d buy them for my home cooking. Delicious ranch dressing, too, which seemed made fresh in house. Overall the experience was a really pleasant surprise. Prices are fair and we walked out feeling really good about our choice for dinner. Good job Sandbar!

I never expected to find rare topshelf bourbon in Long Beach, but there it was. The bar is fairly new and I had not heard anything about it. We visited in the late afternoon and picked a seat on the lower level near the bar top. I guess there is seating in an upper level (perhaps even rooftop) but there was no need to search further. Tasting some Pappy Van Winkle bourbons was a bucket list wish for me and the SandBar made it happen with their "Pappy Flight" of 10, 12 and 15yr's. The bigger joy was the Caesar salad I ordered with my flight. The pan fried salmon on the salad was delightful and melted in your mouth. I have cooked a lot of Salmon and never accomplished what our cook did on that day. I was impressed and we inquired about the glaze from Stacy, our waitress. A short time later the cook came to our table to talk to us about the Salmon. No secret recipe here. The whole visit was a great experience and I am sure we will return to sample more items from the vast menu.

Had a wonderful dinner here! Almost everything on the menu is gluten-free (only about 4 items aren’t, and they’re clearly marked). It was such a relief to order without worrying whether the sauce or sides had hidden gluten. Our server, Haley, was amazing—friendly, genuine, and spent time chatting with us. It felt refreshing and personal. Food: Steamer clams – fresh and delicious. Black Garlic Beef Skewers with mac and cheese (not GF) – my BF loved it. Aleppo Pepper Chicken Skewers with fried rice – rice was a little al dente, but gingery and tasty. Caesar salad – HUGE, definitely more than just a side! We left stuffed, but I came back the next day for the flourless GF chocolate cake with whipped cream for my birthday. It may have been missing the caramel sauce, but it was still rich, chocolatey, and satisfying. Highly recommend for anyone who loves flavorful food and especially if you’re gluten-free—it’s such a treat to have so many safe options!

Beautiful place, terrible everything else. I’m a local and I love to go to local restaurants. Went for the first time Friday night. Was greeted and we sat down. The server didn’t ask us if we wanted drinks, and when she asked us if we were ready to order, she was rude about it. We had to go up to the bar to order our drinks. Would have let it go if it was just that. She apologized for forgetting our drink order. This is a bar, isn’t it? Should be the first thing asked. The other person with me got his food 10 minutes before I got mine. He’s a gentleman so he wasn’t going to eat until I also had my food. His went cold before I got my Sushi. Sushi was warm, mushy and tasted like nothing. It had no contrast between flavors and no crispiness. They let my food sit for a minute while they stood there and did nothing? Other person ordered the sweet and sour wings. Those were delicious! The bartender wasn’t welcoming at all. Didn’t get our drinks until after our food. We got done eating and had half of our drinks left and the server brought us the check without asking if we wanted more drinks or dessert. We weren’t there for longer than 45 minutes, I would’ve loved to have another drink. To be treated this way especially as locals, definitely is not going to help your business. There were maybe 4 other people there on a Friday night. First red flag? We won’t be back. Skip it. Also, the owners seem to hate low ratings - can’t wait to hear your feedback on what I said! Looking forward to it. Oh! And I’m honored to be your...

Terrible place to grab some food, myself,my girlfriend and another couple went here yesterday on the 4th of July and had a terrible experience. First off I asked for a root beer and the server said as loud as she could "sir this is a whisky bar we dont have that" then laughed. Ok well if your a whisky bar how would I know that jist walking in. Second if your a whisky bar why are you attached to the dang arcade. Then when I order a martini my drink never came by the time my group was ready to check out and leave. Also I never got ketchup for my frys after asking. Oh and when my group wanted water our waitress would constantly go to other tables and not even look at us. Oh so if we arent there to drink alcohol we dont matter? Also the menu is absolutely trash, didn't know they whole menu was on a scan code to look at more options maybe you should tell people that when they walk in. All the food that my group got all tasted terrible and when we wanted to finally check out and pay they took forever to get to us and didn't even ask if we wanted to split the bill I had to go ask to split it between the two groups. Absolutely THE WORST RESTAURANT EXSPERINCE EVER! I will never go there again nor will any of my group and we will make sure to let those we know not to. Blonde waitress with the tattoos do better next time maybe give all your tables equal attention and not just the ones...
