I have been vegan since 2007, and was longing for an all-vegan bakery. One fateful day, I was running an errand and found this place by happy accident. I saw the neon sign that said, "I can't believe it's vegan!" and my feet screeched to a halt and walked backwards. I have been here EVERY week since on one of my two days off. I have literally tried everything on the menu, and it's all excellent. Everything is vegan, made in-house, home-made, with love. There are also gluten-free options. Mel and Alex are as sweet as the sweets they make. Everyone who comes into their place becomes a friend. They are so friendly, and it's obvious they are passionate about making amazing food and really care about their customers. One day Mel and I were talking about chocolate and avocado, and how a life without them would be pointless. The following week, there was a "chavocado" "smoody" (smoothie) on the dry erase board which shows the daily specials, then it became a regular menu item (and yes, it's amazing). It's true the breakfast burrito is the best. Like tacos instead? The breakfast tacos are all the same ingredients with the same amount of food and just as delicious. I have had many vegan chocolate chip cookies, and theirs is the best I've ever tasted. They offer to warm up any pastry in the case for you, and the chocolate chip cookie warmed up was a whole new level of delicious. I normally don't write reviews, but the world needs to know about this place and support it. Every time I eat brunch here (typically between around 11:00 am and 1:00 pm), I am delightfully full and usually don't need to eat again until about 8:00 pm. Everything is perfectly satisfying. I'm a shameless junk food vegan who loves sweets, and all of the sweets here are excellent. The place itself is bright, clean, and inviting, the decor is adorable. They are also always working on adding new things to their menu, which is exciting. If you are are chocoholic like me, I highly recommend the Chocolate...
Read moreHi! So you're serving culinary matcha in your drinks unfortunately. Whoever sold it to you sold you bad product. The drink was a wilted brown. I hope you guys can upgrade your matcha quality - and yes, I spoke with the guy at the front who insisted it was "ceremonial grade"... my friend, just because it says that on the label does not mean that is what you have! That's not an "official rating" - that's a buzzword people use because matcha is trendy right now.
I don't usually take the time to write reviews, but this rubbed me the wrong way. The actual powder should be bright green when you open the bag, and smell floral and fragrant, not dusky like old eyeshadow, which was what the powder you showed me was. What also tipped me off was the price - around 4$ for a matcha in Los Angeles is highly unusual, and while I see you guys "price fairly", whatever you're paying for that bulk bag of matcha is probably effecting the price for the end product being so low. It should be an expensive enough bag that the matcha costs more like 6$, which is unfortunately an indicator of quality in this case. Please go to Maru Coffee and try a real matcha. They use alternative milks, but their powder is from Rocky's, I think. There are many other great matcha powder brands out there. In LA it is as serious as coffee. You should be using a drinkable matcha at least, or remove it from the...
Read moreWhile there are ample options for vegan breakfast burritos in Los Angeles, I don't have a spot that l would return to regularly for one... until now!!! The Moody Vegan's breakfast burrito is number one it's the most quintessential, daydream breakfast burrito that your wildest cravings conjure. The combo of egg, sausage, avocado, cheese, potatoes, and pico is perfectly balanced and offers an umami filled and filling breakfast. I personally ordered mine without sausage (wasn't in the vegan meat mood) but tried my partner's and loved both versions.
I went specifically for a pickup of breakfast burritos but the dessert case called to me and I had to leave with SOMETHING. I was so excited to see coffee cake that l went for that - and received a massive slice that was perfect for sharing. Get the coffee cake!
It's also a great place to hang out and eat there - cute tables and cozy atmosphere.
Special shout-out for the dog treats. Our big girl was a big tan and I love when bakeries treat our companion animals!
I can't recommend Moody Vegan enough. I will be there as often as possible for that breakfast burrito!
They're doing everything right in this kitchen. See you at...
