JJ Fish & Chicken — Restaurant in Macon

Let me start by saying that the food here is 5 stars! The reason I gave 4 stars is only because of minor suggestions I will explain later. When I came in I wanted whole catfish. The order taker advised that it would take 20 minutes, but the filets only take 10. I had time, and I really love whole fried catfish. Since I was going to wait, I ordered crab cake bites. They only took a few minutes to cook, and were amazing!. My whole catfish arrived, and they came with fries, coleslaw, and bread. It threw me off that I got bread, and not hushpuppies, but that was not a big issue. I tried a couple of the fries (I usually only eat a fry or two; I am fixed on the fish). These fries had some kind of magic fairy dust sprinkled on them! They were fantastic! I then moved to the highlight of the meal. The catfish were hot, fresh, and had the best flavor of any restaurant catfish I have ever eaten! They were so good, I was striping the bones of any missed bits of wonderfulness! I am not a big cole slaw fan in general, so I will hold my comments on that. This meal very much exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend any fish lover to try this place. I did say I have a few suggestions, but do not let them deter you from eating here. I would recommend the restaurant to serve fresh sweet tea. All of their beverages were canned and bottled (except for flavored ice that looked to be a good idea with many flavors to choose from). Also, hushpuppies instead of white bread, and if possible, actual lemon slices instead of lemon juice packets...hard to substitute actual lemons. Overall, my experience at JJ fish and Chicken was outstanding, and I look forward to returning soon! Thank you for some of the best catfish...

So I went and tried JJ fish& chicken a Chicago style establishment that just opened up here in Macon. And I must say they are much better than Shark's buuuut the chicken could be a lil more tender once you get to the actual meat the skin on the other hand perfect fry on it and seasoned to perfection! I also tried the corn nuggets, fried mushrooms, and French fries as my sides. The corn nuggets were fried a little too long which made the corn a tid bit chewy on the inside of the nuggets. And the mushrooms need to be smaller or cut in half if they are gonna use big mushrooms. And the fries eat em while they are hot! So on a scale of 1 to 10 I give JJ fish & chicken a hard 7.5. My very first time was tonight I got the 5piece whiting and fry combo it was perfect until I had bones in my fish and I specifically asked the girl at the front did it have bones and she told me no . So for that reason they lost a star. Im pregnant and just drove 9 hours and couldn’t eat the food I paid for cuz I was scared of the bones but my husband tore it up! So great job besides the bones!
