This has been "our special little place" for about a year now. I'm going to share my only disappointment first: They have changed tequila brands and no longer have a coconut option. Prior to this change, they had THE BEST margaritas I've had in my life. If MBC can't bring back 1800 Coconut, they need to bring in a comparable brand of coconut tequila. Not having the 1800 coconut totally changed the experience for me. I was there last night, and they now have some fancy brands of tequila, but they didn't make for my perfect margarita, and no coconut option. I am truly saddened about this change. Now on to the good about Mad Beach Cantina:
Everything else. The street tacos are wonderful, as are the fajitas. Last night, we ordered the dip trio for the first time, and realized straight away that we should have been ordering that all along. The dip trio was so good, it took the edge off of my crushing disappointment about the missing 1800 coconut tequila. One on the best guacamoles ever to grace my palate, and the queso was equally divine. I knew at Valentine's Day that they were phasing out 1800 brand, but I thought I had more time! I got in 2 more nights between February and last night, but it was just over last night. So sad!
The vibe of this place is perfect. It sits on the 3rd floor, overlooking a small marina and canal on the east side. You can look to the west across the street and see the beach. We've spent some beautiful evenings at Mad Beach Cantina outside on the deck. Sometimes they have live music.
Overall, I still choose to call this my favorite place in town, but I really, REALLY loved those coconut tequila margaritas...so much that I'm not entirely sure this will continue to be my default, go-to place, but we'll surely return for the food and experience; we just may try out some other spots looking for the perfect margaritas we thought we had already found! I know, it's just a drink, and I'm not even a big drinker, it's just that MY margarita was THAT GOOD! MBC has a create-your-own margarita menu. Mine was the 1800 coconut with the orange juice mix, a sugar rim, and depending on the day, a Grande Marnier floater or maybe a passion fruit flavoring, but the basic was always best. Really hope they bring that 1800 Coconut back to the bar.
Don't miss this place. They offer a red floating key chain for locals for 10% off, and it's part of the Caddy's rewards program. Every other time we go, I use my points for about $20 off the bill. We typically spend $100-$150 for 2 including with tip when we go, so not unreasonable for people who order whatever they want. Generally, that bill includes two or more large margaritas and a few beers, an appetizer, and 2 meals, and sometimes dessert (the churros are my fav). I also tip a minimum of 20% and usually a little more, because the service is always top notch with a great staff. We have had great service from the staff 100% of our visits. Excellent job, MBC staff. I hope management recognizes their super crew. We had a delightful time at the bar with the bartenders last night. You girls were awesome for trying to ease my pain with other margaritas--and they were also delicious, just not the same! The bartender also misses the coconut tequila, and she encouraged me to write this review...
Don't miss this place if you're on vacation, and do put it into your regular rotation if you're a local.
Overall, 5 stars, but giving a 1 star for taking away my booze!

Read moreFirst time here and really looked forward to our Taco Tuesday visit. We sat at the bar right away and were acknowledged by Benny right away. He was the only bartender for the whole place so it took a while before he was able to ask us about drinks. This is a great spot and sitting outside was very comfortable: great breeze coming thru and had an almost Bahamian feel to it. We eventually got to order drinks and then food. I ordered the ceviche without chips, and shrimp tacos. My wife ordered the enchiladas. Food came out pretty fast, to our surprise and it looked amazing. The ceviche was good. Slightly bland, no citrus at all and the shrimp was way over done and rubbery. The fish and scallop bits however were good but I only got like 2 bits of each swimming in that giant pool of green/grey water. I did eat a shrimp taco and that was quite the contrast because that was absolutely delicious! Shrimp was tender and was 100% spot on with seasoning and flavor! I would get those again in a heartbeat! Enter my wife's enchiladas. They looked so good and she was so excited to try it. First was a bite of the refried beans. They were absolutely delicious! Then there was the rice. Zero flavor and dry as sand. Excitement deflated slightly. Then she went in for a bite of an enchilada. It was burnt and inedible. Excitement gone and the look of disappointment on my wife's face made me weep for her. We looked at the menu to maybe let her try something else but she said the burnt taste is stuck and she was no longer hungry. Needless to say, we wrapped it up, paid our nearly $80 tab for 4 shots of fireball, shrimp tacos and ceviche (this was NOT an $80 dinner experience by any means) and we went home. Will we be back? I dunno, maybe for the service from Benny. There are a ton of other Mexican restaurants in the area with really good food that don''t cost $80 for an app, 4 shots and taco's. The only thing outstanding was Benny's service but for the love of God, have 2 bartenders on Taco Tuesday because he was having a Hell of a time trying to service the bar and resteraunt at...
Read moreCame in over the weekend while visiting family in the area. I ordered a grande spicy margarita as I see the sign and menu both say “buy one get one free margaritas all day.” I am informed after ordering my second that it is not part of the BOGO, only the house margarita. I ask to speak with a manager as it had also taken about 25 mins to receive an appetizer and my father had to get a managers attention to get our server once I made it to the location(parking was terrible, the restaurant offers maybe 10-20 spots) and the experience had not been great. I speak to a female who informs me nicely the grande is not part of the BOGO and she is sorry but she can not comp my drink but may be able to take care of the appetizer. Then the GM(I later find out named John from my server) turns around from the computer after overhearing the conversation and becomes very hostile telling me “now we’re just complaining about anything to get our bill taken care of” VERY RUDE, how could this be your GM? I told him his menu did not state it was house margaritas anywhere as he swore it did as he turned back around to their computer ignoring me. I brought a menu to him asking him to please show me where it states the BOGO is only on house because at this point, I feel disrespected and patronized. He can not show me anywhere where it states this and proceeds to take care of my second margarita. I would not go here, there are many other places on the beach where you as a customer are treated like you are wanted there. I am dumbfounded at how the so called General Manager spoke to me. It was so inappropriate and beyond anything I would expect from customer service management. Spend your money elsewhere, the food isn’t worth it anyway. It’s cold, bland, takes forever to arrive and management doesn’t care to fix...
