One of my favorites in Milwaukee and continues to be. Came in for lunch during dining week to see how they do it. Definitely recommend getting reservations during an event like this. Actually, need to get one, cuz they were not allowing walk ins when we came in. We had some time so I made a reservation online for 45 minutes later, walked around a bit, and came inside to be seated.
Our hostess, Victoria, was super friendly despite the busy day, as was our server, but he didn’t tell us his name. Vibes here are awesome. It just makes me feel good coming in here to eat. Every time.
Biscuits with blueberry jam & butter Fantastic!! Really, the biscuits were a bit dense but just right, and the jam and butter were perfect pairs.
Fried Green Tomatoes For the dining week, this dish comes with one slice of fried tomato. Very good! But I believe they forgot the basil.
Pimento cheese queso I didn’t want to eat the chips that came with… but the queso itself was good. Its was better with my burger… I dunked the burger in this sauce and it was delicious.
Whiskey & onion smash burger I asked for no buns and extra lettuce. They use sliced lettuce, which defeats the purpose of lettuce as buns… but I guess you can’t be too picky on dining week. I ate the burger like a salad, kind of, and it worked out well. The smash burger patty was good. The menu said 2 patties, but we both only got one patty each. The whiskey infused onions were quite delicious. So a bit of a hit or miss here.
Mini heavenly banana pudding Ok, but not heavenly.
Mini Mississippi Mud Pie Now this one, was more heavenly! Scrumptious!
Overall, everything was great, as I expected from Tupelo Honey.
One thing I didn’t like was the table. Their table for 2 is super small. Barely any room to put your phone on the table (I guess there are many who would not want you to do that anyway…). I didn’t notice this before cuz I had always been in larger groups, and their table for 4 is adequate for 4 people. But for a date night, the table for 2 make me feel too crowded.

Hubby decided to get the sweet and spicy chicken sandwich instead of the smothered chicken, and was totally satisfied. They do their chicken good!
We also had the harvest bowl with fried chicken - This was a huge pice of flat friend chicken atop a bed of quinoa - it was a LOT of quinoa. Also asked for some sriracha honey (extra $.75), and it was a LOT of sriracha honey sauce. The sauce should have come on a separate dish, not atop the quinoa. Wasted food.
sides: Broccolini Brussel sprouts collards with bacon fries ALL GOOD!!! so GGOOOD!!!
Mahi Mahi with creole butter - One of the best mahi mahi I've had. But! It was a $24 dish. Their most expensive one in the menu. My plate came with a teeny tiny piece of fish with melted butter falling down the sides. I was at first taken aback at the size of the fish and had to ask our server to make sure this was it. She laughed and said yes. Everyone at our table was kind of shocked... this is a southern kitchen, after all, not a French restaurant. And all the other portions, including the sides, were so heaping that I couldn't feel but feel somewhat cheated out with the size. It was more like I had ordered Brussel sprouts as the entree and a piece of fish as a side/appetizer.
Size aside, though, the fish had delicious butter sauce falling down to its side. (and I wasn't mad anymore after my first bite. it was really good.) BUT, the sides that came with this dish (Brussel sprouts and collards) came in these black cast iron bowls, and one of the bowls was touching my fish. Please. Don't put serving ware on top of my food and then serve it like that.
The one entree I could see being most keto friendly was the cast iron pork, with the sriracha honey glaze on the side. But it was so tender and delicious!
The Cobb Salad looked really good, but a Cobb is a Cobb. I would get it for lunch, but...
Read moreAll around great! I had to opportunity to enjoy 2 delicious meals at Tupelo Honey- dinner and brunch.
I made reservations for both visits through the Open Table app. Walking in the ambiance was lively and the hosts were so friendly and warm. I walked back through the restaurant before being seated and noticed there are 4 individual bathroom stalls - all with baby changing stations. The restroom I used was very clean and fully stocked.
Our server Anton went above and beyond to take care of us. He made some great suggestions for drinks and his favorite menu choices.
For dinner I had the peach don’t kill my vibe drink, my hubby had a modelo and then The Boozy Rooster. Our drinks were served to us quickly and they had just the right amount of alcohol. The fried pickles were hot, fresh and delicious! We did order extra buttermilk ranch dipping sauce for them. We enjoyed the cast iron pork, French fries and Mack and cheese. The pork was fantastic! It had a nice crunchy skin with a soft and flavorful meat. The crispy fries were so good but the mac m cheese was a little lackluster for my taste. The portions were very generous I took 1/2 of my food home! My hubby ate the meatloaf with green beans and salad. He said his was amazing! We finished off with the pecan pie which was pretty much inhaled once it was on the table!
My brunch experience was just as great! We went to celebrate my niece’s birthday and she was given a free bottle of their blueberry compote as a birthday gift. She also was given a birthday dessert. As both were very unexpected, they were greatly appreciated and a testament to their gracious customer service.
We enjoyed their hot coffee and cold brew, both were delicious. We ordered the spicy cauliflower bites appetizer. Even though it was good, we were hoping it would’ve had more of the sriracha honey drizzle on the appetizer. My sister and I had the chicken and waffles with a side order of scrambled eggs. The chicken and waffles came out hot and fresh. The chicken was seasoned well and crispy. The eggs were good. I liked that there was pepper already in the eggs. If you don’t like pepper in your eggs, I’d suggest you specifically say no pepper so you don’t have to send it back. My niece had the bacon and avocado melt. She loved the green tomato aioli and said the crispy fries were delicious.
Overall, I had 2 lovely experiences dining at Tupelo Honey. This is a perfect place if you want a trendy/modern ambiance with exceptional service...
Read moreWhile visiting Milwaukee my girlfriend and I visited Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen during their happy hour and it was one of the best dining experiences I have had and that is just based off of the food alone because the customer service is top notch and the inside is beautifully decorated and Incredibly clean which I find very important even though we chose to eat on their front sidewalk patio because of the beautiful weather. I love how Milwaukee has many different happy hours throughout the city offering different drink and food specials but in my opinion nothing beats the options you will find at Tupelo Honey that include three different varieties of chicken and waffles for only $5 each I chose the honey Sriracha chicken and waffles and it was the best thing I have eaten in Milwaukee yet but they also have a mac and cheese stuffed Nashville hot chicken waffle that you have to see to believe and more $5 options like crispy brussel which we also tried and were very crispy in the best way possible, loaded potato cracklins, among others options all of which seem fancy and the option to try them for only $5 is an incredible saving plus what I appreciated very much is that they also offer a impressive variety of $5 cocktails as well which were delicious and different from most cocktails I've tried which makes me think they use better quality ingredients. We decided to try the cheeky Tiki which was a rum based tropical drink and the purple people eater which consisted of vodka, blueberry, and lavender which seemed different from most cocktails I've tried probably because of the lavender but was surprisingly good and I'm glad I took a chance on it. The sidewalk patio was great to sit at and although it was very warm each table has a large umbrella for shade I would also like to recommend their biscuits you get two very large biscuits for five bucks anytime of the day that come with a blueberry puree that you can't eat standing up because your knees will buckle so of all the places I've tried so far in Milwaukee this is the one I recommend the most and if you're in the area give them a try you won't regret it except maybe not...
