On Friday, August 10, 2024, my family and I took a vacation to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The following day, August 11, 2024, we decided to visit Beach House Bar and Grill at 1205 N Ocean Blvd, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina while our teenagers were enjoying a nearby haunted house. What should have been a fun and relaxing outing quickly turned into a nightmare.
We ordered a round of drinks, and after finishing the first, my sister ordered a shot. Immediately after taking it, she discovered a large amount of hair in her cup and mouth. Completely disgusted, she began to gag. The bartender, who was standing right in front of her, said nothing and made no attempt to assist. I had to step in and offer my sister a napkin, as it was clear no one else would. When we showed the bartender the napkin with the clump of hair, she coldly stated that she was remaking the drink but didn't appreciate my comments. I reminded her that we didn't pay for drinks to come with someone's hair weave included.
When we requested a refund, the bartender refused, only offering to remake the drink. We then asked to speak with a manager. After waiting 20 minutes, the bartender returned, still without a manager, and continued to refuse a refund. Eventually, a bleach blonde bad built body white woman approached with security and told them to kick us out before even speaking to us. We can only assume she was the manager, though she never identified herself.
To make matters worse, we believe we were targeted because we were the only Black patrons in the bar at the time. I never used profanity or acted out of line, yet we were treated with blatant disrespect and were asked to leave. The fact that the bartender, who is herself of mixed Black heritage, showed such disregard makes this situation even more disheartening.
If you're looking for a place with poor customer service, suspected racial discrimination, and the possibility of finding hair in your drinks, then Beach House Bar and Grill is the spot for you. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and stay far away. We certainly won't be returning, and we hope others follow suit.
UPDATE: After the “Owner of the Restaurant Responded…”
Hello Owner.
Thank you for your delusional and inaccurate response to my review. I’m deeply disappointed by your reply, which only highlights the numerous poor reviews your establishment continues to receive. Let’s address the facts:
I am the male of the group. The drink was not in front of my sister for 10-15 minutes; it took your bartender about 30 minutes to make it. Your bartender visibly watched my sister take the drink, gag on the hair, and saw me hand her a napkin. I was never rude to her. When people can’t take accountability, they become defensive. Your bartender is likely young enough to be my child. As an educator and attorney, I don’t waste time arguing with those who lack the capacity to engage in a meaningful exchange. She isn’t worth the effort it would take to be rude. If you truly believe I was rude, I assume you have cameras. Roll that footage. You’ll see that I am highly articulate and was the peacemaker in this situation. Your manager never spoke to me. Based on other reviews, this seems to be a pattern. You respond with falsehoods, fantasies, and fairytales. I will now escalate this matter by reaching out to the Attorney General of your state. A simple apology would have sufficed, but since you chose to make defamatory comments about an incident YOU were not present for, Merry Christmas! I will gift you something that will keep on giving.
I provided my contact information in your website’s review section. You could have reached out directly instead of responding with lies. Congratulations—you’ve gained an advocate for your company’s downfall. You’re welcome, and rest assured, our continued exchanges will undoubtedly impact your...
Read moreMy partner and I were visiting Myrtle beach the weekend of Aug 25th. We were looking for a nice restaurant with outdoor seating and a view on Ocean Blvd so that we can people watch. Our waitress a blonde young lady appeared to be nice until she was messy. We choose a seat in the left corner underneath the TV. Here's the conversation Me: "Omg, a cat just came up on the outdoor sitting bae."(to my partner as she didn't see it, she was facing the inside entrance). The cat sat right next to our table looking up at me, then proceeded to walk towards the front entrance. Then came back and waited in that corner. My eyes and nose started itching badly. Me: "This cat is waiting on food. Someone here feeds him. Stray Cats are intelligent enough to come back to whomever feeds them even one time. " The blonde waitress coming back to check on us: "Is everything alright." Me: "There's a cat sitting in the corner" The blonde waitress: " Oh, thats our cat here" Me: "I'm allergic to Cats" The Blonde waitress: "Do you want him to move" Me: at least outside the gate, he's too close and my allergies are flaring up" The Blonde waitress: she shuns him off the deck beyond the wooden gate. Meanwhile he's not moving, still waiting on his food Then another waitress with Burgundy in front and black hair in back appears with food and sat it right in the same corner where the cat was waiting, AFTER I told the blonde waitress I'm allergic. Of course, here comes the cat. The Burgundy and black hair waitress after putting the food down turns around looks dead at me, not my partner and says with a sarcastic smirk that says"Yes I just did that"...but says to me " You don't like my cat"
Now here's the messy ..The blonde waitress goes and find the Burgundy/black hair waitress inside and told her co worker I said I don't like cats. When I SPECIFICALLY said "I'm allergic to cats. have absolutely NOTHING against cats or animals in general. I literally had to leave my partner there at the table, go to the car and wait, thereby not finishing my food. Instead have her get takeout boxes. The waitress showed no empathy towards my concern AND was unapologetic to my health allergies and basically said (as i looked in her face) her sarcastic smirk and still went forward in feeding the cat right next to our table "Fu*k your allergies Bit$h" that's what i felt she was non verbally saying based off her smirk and inconsideration. That was insensitive and unprofessional. Also, what if I was a worker visiting Myrtle beach on vacation, but worked for the FDA. I'm certain feeding a cat where humans eat AND not knowing if they're allergic AND once you find out a Patron is in fact allergic, the waitress still brought food to draw the cat back to where we were sitting. Worse experience out of ALL restaurants I've visited in my LIFE. Totally disappointed these waitresses didn't have empathy for my health allergies, as well as didn't bother to apologize. Unexpected as well as unexceptable. I'm not in the business of taking money out of workers pockets, I understand times are hard and folks need their jobs. That's why I didn't address this with the manager. I'm just doing a review in hopes the manager will check this situation with those two waitress from Aug 25th working outdoor seating around 2pm. I'm not the only human allergic to cats, and it's not fair for patrons to have to accept feeding one right next to them because he's the restaurant "pet" according to the...
Read moreFamily of four visiting from out of state. I normally don't leave bad or low reviews for small places, but this one got to me, and people should be aware. My review is actual, and the facts are correct. After an evening of walking around MB, the family decided to grab a quick bite before we went back home for the night and I thought, how bad can bar food be? Well, this place said: "hold my beer". As we walked in, nobody at all checked on us, had to ask a server if we were going to be seated or should just pick a spot, she said just pick a spot. Please note that this was a Tuesday night, they were not busy at all around 9pm. Server got to us right away to collect our drink order and that came out fast. But that is when the sign was given, and I didn't take notice. She asked for a credit card to "hold". I should've left then, but no, decided to give it a shot. We could not even place an order if a CC was not given to "open" a tab, even if you wanted to pay cash, which we did. The menu was quite diverse with options for every taste. They mentioned "fresh", "hand cut", etc. Do not fall for that. Everything comes from a bag, pre-made, pre-cut and processed. My wife had a gyro, my kids had a chicken sandwich and a shrimp basket, and I had the shrimp scampi with a side of loaded fries. Gyro and chicken sandwich were just ok as expected from a bar on the beach. My daughter's shrimp was below par since it was from a bag and only fried on the spot (yes, you can tell the breading was not fresh). My shrimp scampi actually took the high prize. Please note that this was not a pasta dish, it was just shrimp covered in sauce. The sauce was alfredo base (white) with a small hint of garlic, and I could not taste any "white wine" at all. The bread that came with my dish was not even hot. The side of loaded fries was simply fries from a bag, Hormell chili and Velvetta cheese with pre-cut bacon pieces. It was very salty. When you think things could not get worse, I requested a refill for my sweet tea. She took my cup and brought it back WITHOUT refilling the ice or even giving me a fresh slice of lemon! And to top it off, they automatically charge you 15% on your bill!!!!! Also, this is not a place for families. They play really loud music, and some lyrics are not PG (not sure if DJ forgot to play the "clean tracks"). Unless you are under 25 and make over 75K a year, this place is not for you. Our bill with the mandatory 15% came to be over 120.00. I hope they do some work and turn this place around; they have potential, and the location is good, but it will be a...
