Couple things: I think I had the best slightly dirty martini I've ever had there. I don't know what kind of olive juice or brine that they use, but it's the best tasting I've ever had- ever. Now, the bad: I got a filet and a side of mushrooms, which I was very excited about and then a salad. The salad was awesome. My friend also got a filet. I took a couple bites of the steak. It was cooked perfectly by the way, and all I can tell you is that I don't know what kind of beef they're using, but it did not taste fresh. I was very disappointed. Now they had already took off my mushrooms, which I didn't ask them to do by the way. I took two bites of the mushrooms And it was loaded with sodium. And this wasn't just like 'oh yeah you go out and things are salty more so than when you cook at home' this was like someone dumped a bunch of salt on accident and they missed the mistake. My friend took a bite and validated me. I left it there and by then I had already had 2 to 3 bites of my steak and had decided I didn't like the steak either.
Something about me if I'm asked how things are, I'll tell the truth but I never wave a server over and complain and request to send something back or get something else or demand it to be taken off my check. So that's a little bit of my personality. I don't like to make a scene. However, I don't know if this is commonplace there, but it seemed like maybe the manager is either supposed to come over and check on guests, or he happened to maybe see that I was just leaving my food there. He asked how everything was and I said, "well if I'm honest, the mushrooms are very salty like they're not edible" and he apologized and immediately said he would take it off the check. So, I definitely wasn't going to complain about the steak, but I hope they knew that I didn't like it because when she asked if I wanted a togo, I declined. I'm writing this because it was a $60 filet and my friend said something about hers before I did. She said she felt like it tasted, maybe "gamey" and wondered if it was because it was grass fed. I don't know anything about that. I usually buy grass fed organic beef if I'm gonna buy it. I personally felt like it tasted not fresh or it wasn't beef. I don't know what the heck it was. I will tell you it was very tender. and I also did ask them to keep the butter off of it. I don't like anything on my steak. That's my honest review. It's not a place I would go back to just giving two out of the three items that I had to eat were not good for the price. I felt like I probably could've went to Morton's instead and paid either the same...
Read moreWhile planning our highly anticipated girls trip to Nashville all three of the ladies I was traveling with were highly recommended to have dinner at the Skull Room We made a reservation for Saturday night 3-16 The only time available was 9:15 pm We were aware of the burlesque show starting at 11 pm and we looked forward to enjoying it after our meal. We arrived at the restaurant at about 9:00. We checked in with the hostess and were told we could get a drink at the bar and she would come get us when our table was ready. The bar was very crowded but we were able to grab three stools at the end and order a glass of wine each from John one of the bartenders. (Super nice young man) After about two sips of wine each a different male bartender (who had been having a conversation with a young lady standing behind us) asked one of the lady’s in our group if she would get up from her seat so that the young lady standing behind us could sit down….. Mind you, the lady he asked to get up was the oldest lady in our group (61 with a bad leg) Completely taken aback my friend stood up and let the young lady have her seat. Shocked by the audacity, myself and my other friend got up too and we all headed back toward the hostess stand to continue waiting for our table. At this time is was about 9:10 and only 5 mins until our reservation. However, we ended up waiting until nearly 9:40 for our table while we stood in the walkway by the main entrance leaning up against the wall in the way of the waitstaff going back and forth to their tables. (Very awkward) Eventually We were sat a table right beside the very noisy kitchen at a booth that was abnormally high (the table top came about chest high. All three ladies are 5’5”) Still a little uneasy about what had happened at the bar we asked our amazing server Acqui if he could send the manager over so we could tell him about it. The manager was busy but eventually made it over to our table just as were paying. He was apologetic and let us know he would be speaking with that bartender and agreed what he did was rude and distasteful. The food was good. The service was great and the manager was friendly enough. Ambiance was a little bit odd…… But nothing above and beyond to be noted. The vibe was….. unique. We decided not to stay for the burlesque show.
In my opinion, when in Nashville skip The Skull Room There are TONS of other restaurants with just as good food, better bartenders and much...
Read moreMy husband and I have dined at Skull’s twice. We were really impressed with our first experience. Our waiter was super attentive and friendly. We can’t remember his name, but he had a man bun. The band (soul serenade) was incredible, and we ended up buying one of their CDs. My mother is a chef, so I was surprised by how tasty the food was (as I’m often disappointed). We got the lobster bisque, the Mac and cheese, the gnocchi, and the half chicken. So tasty! Their mashed potatoes are to die for, the vegetables are cooked to perfection and seasoned well, and the creamy dishes are seasoned well enough to offset the heaviness of the dish. I’m used to chicken being dry and tasteless in the middle, but whatever brining technique they used was amazing! It was juicy and delicious. Our second visit last night (two and a half weeks after our first visit) began with the hostess recognizing us!! That was so pleasantly unexpected and impressive. Our waiter, Ethan, like our last waiter, was attentive and friendly. The band was awesome, and the food was impressive all over again. This time we tried the escargot (it was my husband’s first time) and we loved it! The sauce was to die for. They serve it having already been removed from the shell, which was slightly disappointing, but overall easier, and I imagine less stressful if you haven’t tried it before. We also tried the chef’s special Mahi Mahi with asparagus and mashed potatoes, which was pretty delicious, although less filling than other dishes. All of the other dishes we’ve tried were surprisingly sufficient and filling portion sizes. I feel like fancier restaurants usually give you the bare minimum amount of food for your entree, and it’s like, excuse me, I came here to eat. This restaurant actually fed us. Overall, our experience with Skull’s Rainbow Room exceeded our...
