They ask about food allergies; where else in the world does that happen??? They're patient and take the time to attend to you while you decide what you're ordering. Seated in the heart of the French Market, this place needs a TRUE STOREFRONT... I'd be there weekly. They have pressed juice. Pricing is great. The food is made fresh and in-front your face (actually just behind a door) but you're able to see the cooks and there's nothing sketchy going on. Converting to a non-meat eating & non-dairy eater is challenging and this place and a few others make it all the easier. My only regret is that: I ATE IT ALL in ONE SETTING; it was soooooo delicious that I shamefully ate it all. I wanted to save some for later, but it was just too good and I didn't have a full feeling, although I know you shouldn't eat until FULL, but hey I did it anyway... so I continued to eat until it was gone. The staff was patient and kind. I knew a few of them were in training, but the trainer was patient and pointed out obvious errors in a loving manner. My food was prepared to my likening and in a swift, but in a knowingly FRESHLY PREPARED way. Additionally, once i devoured all the food on my plate, I didn't have a full, stuffed, can't move feeling. I was refreshed and still felt light and fluffy, which made walking back to my car all the easier. Parking wasn't easy, but it was worth it!!!!!!

Sought this place out specifically because of how inclusive the menu appeared online. My partner and I are both vegan and she’s also gluten-free, so it seemed perfect for us. We were a little bummed when we realized we’d misread the site: when I saw an item that said it could be made vegan(SLASH)gluten-free, I assumed it could be made both at once. Frustratingly, most options could be made EITHER vegan or gluten-free. The menu for my partner suddenly became a lot smaller. For example, the real dead crab plates are gluten-free, but the vegan crab plates aren’t. There’s also no prices listed online or on the laminated sheets at the counter? Anyway, we both got their vegan spicy po’boy with seasoned potatoes, one of which they were able to offer a gluten-free bun for. We both agreed that it was the greatest po’boy we’ve ever had. So despite everything, I strongly urge all meatless folk to stop by here for a meal if they’re in town. I now consider it a must for every stop in NOLA. Plus, it’s right in the French Market, so an excellent spot to people watch and walk to and from.

I really enjoyed stopping here. The man who took our order was named DC, and the woman who cooked the food was Ms. Lee. The owner’s (Marilyn) son, James, was also there. I want to really commend this staff. They were so friendly and accommodating and knowledgeable of dietary restrictions. I was excited to get to enjoy gluten free gumbo. It was so well made, and I could tell they really care for their customers and ensuring that they are being well taken care of. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a healthy meal made by loving hands, and if you have dietary restrictions, I just want you to know that their gluten free gumbo pretty much tastes like the real deal. It was GREAT. (My boyfriend tasted mine for comparison.) Bless this staff and I hope your business absolutely flourishes and grows! PS - they have the most BOMB mimosas I’ve ever had. Just so y’all know. Deeeefinitely get a mimosa. I had the pineapple and my love had the class orange mimosa and they were both very tasty.

Arriving the staff were elsewhere mentally. Tapping on iPhones or just generally ignoring us. Eventually one of them briefly pointed out the vegan/non vegan menus. This makes the rest of our time there extra magical. We ordered two gumbos specifying the VEGAN and GF options in the small sizes. (Near $30 mind you). I have a gluten allergy and am a lifelong vegan. It’s rare I’d order things wrong and myself and my boyfriend both remember ordering the same thing. After receiving our orders we questioned the bread. My boyfriend took the bread up to ask about it and the employees were dismissive and indifferent to our inquiries. Instead of checking with the kitchen they checked their ticket. I know sometimes what’s on the ticket isn’t what gets put on the plate so I was pretty disappointed in this lazy response. Only two bites of bread resulted in my throat being totally sore so I can only assume we were right. After continuing our meal we noticed pieces of MEAT in what we thought was a VEGAN meal. Obviously upset by this my boyfriend took the food over and asked AGAIN about the order. And again we got the lazy ticket check without any actual help. The staff actually told us we ordered wrong… which if we ordered the wrong thing you’d think specifying VEGAN GF would be enough to clarify before the food was made. To add to our experience we both threw up shortly after and are sick. If you’re looking for vegan food, or just a mediocre dining experience, I can’t recommend this place. Rude, lazy, unresponsive, and irresponsible. After reading other reviews I can’t believe they’re still open. Even more I can’t believe they’re advertising themselves...

I was visiting New Orleans for a business trip April 15-17. I came across Meals From The Heart on TikTok. I decided to try this restaurant because the reviews on TikTok were good. Upon arrival I met the cashier. Her service was OK. I ordered the crabcake, a small gumbo and a cold pressed orange juice. I was really excited about the food as I haven’t had any good vegan food since I visited New Orleans. A lot of the restaurants that I wanted to visit were closed or had closed early. I first tried the gumbo and it was OK. I wish that it had more rice, vegetables and mushrooms. I don’t know if this is the correct way to describe it, but it was very loose and not very thick. The next thing I tried was the crabcake and it was OK. If it were not for the sauce I don’t think it would’ve been that great. The orange juice however was pretty good. Overall with tip I spent about $40. The crabcake alone was $10. My suggestion is that For $10 you should get two crabcakes and the gumbo should be thicker maybe add some more vegetables, mushrooms and rice I left feeling unsatisfied. I was disappointed with the portion of food I received for the amount of money I spent. Although I am very grateful to have found one vegan restaurant...
