Ok, I couldn't stop laughing and regardless of the cost I went in for more. Been in the place a couple of times but this was the best.
Added note before I proceed. Stop with the ribs. They are fried ribs, who cares, I have had much better food in NOLA. Comments later in review.
So I ordered a Michelada (why not) came in a glass, salted rim, but they didn't give me the remainder of the beer in the can. They kept it just out of reach as if he was going to pour it for me when the level was low. I was thirsty so I chugged it, but then it was empty and there was no pouring action.
Was I wrong, had all the beer been poured, was that an empty can on the bar? All questions I did not have the answer to. So what to do, order another of course.
Damn I knew it, he picked up the can and poured it in the drink I just ordered and cracked another one to top it off. I was wise to him by now so I told him to leave the can, which he did with no argument.
I was really confused now. Had he forgot the last time, was this such a special drink that it was not supposed to be diluted beyond threat prescribed by the beer mixologist? Again questions I didn't have the answers to, but I had a theory.
This was The Michelada, the one and only, the Bentley of craft beer cocktails. Otherwise known at C&T as Tecate with habanero vinegar and lime.
So what is boy to do, order another; I needed to test my theory, I was still confused and thirsty for another $7 beer cocktail. (That's right, I paid $21 for three beers with lime juice and vinegar. I couldn't stop myself it was the craziest thing I had ever seen. I think they think they invited this thing. I had to understand)
So again he salted the rim, poured in the other mixing crap, and half a beer. But unlike the last two times I asked him why he would deny me the pleasure of a whole Tecate. As expected he explains that it was a craft cocktail.
I tried to rationalize with the beer mixologist. I explained that the is normally given withe the drink so it can be topped off as you drink and why waste half a beer.
He would have none it that. He said, "this is not a traditional Michelada because they are normally served with tomato juicy and we serve outs with habanero vinegar".
WHHAAAT!
I have seen a dozen recipes for Micheladas and some have no tomato juice, and then there is a Chelada that never have tomato juice.
Great argument, now I get why they serve half a beer for $7? It's all about the craft cocktail. I finally get it.
I continued to laugh and asked how much it would cost for a Tecate (full can) with a salted rim glass, a lime, and I supply my own Michelada mix (no tomato juice, easily transportable, I have done it before).
He said $4
WHhhAaaTt?
Continued to laugh and pay the $50 tab for two appetizers and three craft beer cocktails otherwise known as a Michelada.
Wow I have been sitting on a Michelada gold mine for years and never knew it. $21 for 1.5 beers.
Food is decent but overpriced. I had the deep fried ribs that were recommended. Good but more of a state fare type of food. Next year they are planning on putting deep fried snickers on the menu. Oh wait that has already been done. Maybe they will cut them in half and wrap them in seaweed so they can call them unique and charge more.
Bright spot, they have an excellent rum selection, and for the hipsters they have a beer and a shot on the craft drink menu. Only bad thing for the hipster is the beer is Tecate and not the PBR or High Life you so desire.
Almost forgot, according to C&T the place is so good they do not need to have a sigh like every other place in the 1/4. A friend warned me about this hipster sign but I ignored it.
Make your own decision. I can at least say I have a good story.
No sign. C&T is low key and not everyone knows about it.. I only go to antiestablishment places, it's not like all the other want to be cool places in the 1/4. Beers and shots all around. Can I please have a PBR because it's cheap not because I am trying to be cool. (Quote from a...
Read moreMy husband and I cannot say more positive things about our intimate wedding experience at Cane & Table this past weekend on Saturday, April 6th, 2024. When we first got engaged we knew we did not want a large wedding. We wanted it to be intimate and special. We are from NY. We had been to New Orleans a handful of times. My husband had taken me to Cane & Table for dinner. We fell in love with the food, the ambience and of course the cocktails. It was an easy decision to have our wedding ceremony and sit down dinner there. It seemed scary doing this all the way from NY, but that is where Lisa comes in. She is the director of services there. We had spoken many times over the phone and via email in the last year. We even made a trip to NOLA to come back to Cane & Table. It was exactly how we remembered it. Emily, the GM, took us on a tour and we fell in love. Lisa had taken time out of her busy schedule to meet us on our trip at a coffee shop to hear our vision. She took notes and she was extremely professional. As soon as we arrived home we knew this would be the place where we would have our special day. In the months leading up to our wedding Lisa was always in touch with us. She responded to emails and texts right away. In 2023, my mom had passed. Let us just say, Lisa was committed to being my person the day of the wedding. She was always checking in on me making sure I was okay. A few days before the wedding we arrived in NOLA. We did one more walk thru before the big day. Lisa and the rest of her team had brought our vision to life. They were busy working hard with finishing touches. Lisa took all of my little decorative items to be distributed the day of the wedding. All of her suggestions were amazing. She even went to a local farm to get fresh flowers for each of the tables. The day of the wedding I cried. My husband and I both agreed everything we wanted the staff at Cane & Table and Lisa had brought that day. We had a private room upstairs for bridal and groom party to bring their things. The staff brought us water and champagne without even asking. All personal items were locked in the office for safe keeping. When it was time to walk down the aisle, Lisa came in one last time to check on me. She even held my train, something my mother would have done for me. Lisa and her staff went above and beyond to make sure us and all our 45 guests were taken care of the whole night. We had some allergies, but the chef was willing to accommodate it all. The chef even accommodated us to have a sit down dinner, family style instead of a buffet. Lisa would check in on time and such and when speeches and food would be served so we knew. She made sure I had plantains made special just for me. I had said it earlier that we didn't put them on menu but I loved them. Everyone raved about the food and cocktails. Most of all though, they raved about the friendly and hardworking staff. They were all truly amazing! Lisa even took pictures of me and my dad as I was walking down the aisle. Ones I will treasure forever. The music was spectacular. We used the in house music and had a playlist. However, there were some internet issues the day of the wedding, but Cane & Table rose to the occasion. They had bought a sound system machine just in case. Luckily, it was back up and running. The night was magical. If you are looking to have a small and intimate wedding please choose Cane & Table. We are forever grateful to them for making our...
Read moreI am so shocked about my experience at Cane and Table yesterday. But I want to say that the place is gorgeous. Obviously they put a lot of effort into making this place absoluely beautiful and with perfect lighting. My friend and I went in for a cocktail at 5:15 and four tables were empty. The very curt hostess sat us and said, "You gotta leave by 6:45. There's a reservation at your table." Hmmm. Okay. There are so many better ways to say that. The we asked her what the happy hour specials were and she said our server would tell us. The server showed up and gave us water, and then said she would come back in a minute. But then she went to the next table who sat down after us and went over the whole menu and drink menu with them.
The server finally came back and we asked about happy hour, because it's not indicated on the drink menu. Her answer was, "wine, frozen drinks and daquiris." We asked her what kind of wine. Her answer- "red wine and white wine." Seriously? Yes, but what kind of red? She didn't know, so she went and checked a random menu that apparently we weren't given and came back. "Cabernet." She was so strange. I couldn't tell if she was nervous or stoned, or just out of it. One thing I can tell you is that she did not at all care about quality service. The wine ended up being terrible and she brought the check to us without us asking for it at the beginning of our second drink (this drives me CRAZY), and it was 6:15. To top it off, she included a nice 20% tip for herself.
I am still floored because of the reputation that this place has. The owner has been written up in so many magazines and seems to really care about delivering high quality service and drinks. But this was not our experience at all. I hope for the owner's sake that this was an anomaly. I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND. It's way too expensive for this kind...
