Electric Burrito is where you go when you want Southern California styled burritos in NYC. this is the most authentic place serving San Diego styled burritos imo. EB is primarily takeout and delivery. brightly lit clean tiny space. it’s a small spot on Saint Mark’s Place—no tables. just several stools aground the perimeter. Tompkins Square Park is nearby for al fresco options.
what i had: “Carnitas California Burrito.” a hefty burrito stuffed with French fries, melty smooth cheese, flavorful pico de Gallo, and crispy savory mouth-watering fried pork! the pork was cooked excellently and melds with the other ingredients to create a package of deliciousness, wrapped in a tortilla. the pork + fries will sate meat carb hunger pang. highly recommend. definitely very shareable between two people who aren’t hangry. $15 and change (food, tax, and a tip)
other pluses: small focused menu from burritos & burrito bowls, tacos, nachos, and soft drinks food is made to order, so there a little wait. the food is well worth it. there are two main types of burritos to order: “the Conga” (beans, rice, crema & a protein choice of Pollo Asada, Carnitas, and Carne Asada) and “California Burrito” (French fries, cheese, pico de gallo, & a protein choice of Pollo Asada, Carnitas, and Carne Asada) there are also two sub menus of breakfast burritos and specialty burritos
needs improvement: originally I wanted to order the “California Burrito” without meat but the price without meat is the same as the price with meat, which I thought was kinda odd. $15 (including tax and tip) burrito without any meat seemed a bit much so I opted for the Carnitas (same price) which I didn’t regret. the cashier offered to put mushrooms in it but all I really wanted was the fries, cheese, pico. while I was there, some weirdo had her feet up on a stool, with her mask down and was blathering on. wish the staff had stepped in and gave this person the boot. the sadder part was this weirdo was just waiting for two people who were actually mask compliant.
the service from ordering to getting food was easy peasy. prices are on the high side imo for takeout food but everyplace is pricey in the city these days. however, no one can dispute the quality of the ingredients or burrito deliciousness at Electric Burrito. the...
Read moreSince Lucha Lucha in BedStuy (where I worked for a year) closed in 2018, I have been waiting for another San Diego style burrito (i.e. with fries inside) to arrive in NYC. Those Lucha burritos were probably the best I've ever had, so my hopes were high for Electric Burrito.
The short of it is, the Cali burrito at Electric is pretty good. The tortillas are great, the pollo was nicely seasoned and juicy, their in-house salsa (kind of a less smoky chipotle?) was totally solid, and the portions are very generous.
My suggestions (not that anyone cares) would be: Make the fries crispier. One the best parts of the Lucha burrito was that the fries were always crispy. It really lent a unique structure/texture to the burrito that was both convenient‒because it kept the burrito from falling apart or getting soggy‒and pleasurable.
You gotta use fresh Oaxaca cheese. I'm not sure what type of cheese was in this burrito (it was orange), but there's no comparison to Oaxacan for burritos.
Like I said, their in-house salsa was very good, but would be great if they also offered a salsa verde and maybe another spicier option like habañero.
All-in-all, I do recommend Electric Burrito. It's good, but could be...
Read more"Today, I experienced an unfortunate incident while picking up an order for a customer, as I enjoy providing Uber services in this neighborhood. I approached the counter politely to inquire about the customer's order. The staff member informed me it would be a five-minute wait, so I decided to wait outside to avoid crowding the busy space.
When the employee appeared outside, I mistakenly thought she was signaling to me, but as I approached, she loudly admonished me not to stand near the entrance and stated she would call me when the order was ready. This took place in front of other customers, leaving me, and them, quite taken aback.
I understood that she might have been under pressure or tired, so I didn't react harshly. However, I noticed that other people, who also waited near the door, were not treated in the same manner; they were served without confrontation.
I believe it's important to extend the same courtesy and respect to delivery drivers as to other customers. We are all part of the service and customer experience, and mutual respect ensures a positive environment...
