Music For A While — Restaurant in New York

Note: This is a review for hosting a private event. Not attending a weekend show. I was introduced to MFAW after seeing a friend DJ there, and had a great night with zero issue.

There is a lot to appreciate about planning a private party at MFAW. Great location, beautiful aesthetics, and quality sound. However, there are also some things that can definitely be improved. Namely, their sound system set up (particularly in the vinyl room).

We were not allowed to hire a DJ unless they used classic turntables due to CDJs somehow messing up their sound system. We ended up using a Spotify playlist, which worked great, except you couldn't manually control the volume (would have to text a manager to raise/lower throughout the night as needed). It worked out, but was cumbersome.

That's a good word for the experience planning the event -- cumbersome. The staff is nice and can be accommodating, but there was just a lot of unnecessary friction or arbitrary rules in the whole process.

Beyond that, little things just gave a slightly off-putting vibe. Like renting the space 8-10:30pm instead of 8-11pm. It's only 30 minutes, but makes a huge difference to the people experiencing the event. I think this place has a lot of promise and potential, and overall the night was a success. But they need to think beyond just having a cool looking/great sounding space. They need to consider the holistic experience a bit more. For its current price point, I don't think...

Have been to Virgo and Make Believe many times now and have always had the best nights with the kindest, most welcoming staff! Thatcher is a one of a kind nightlife innovator and visionary, and he and his crew sure know how to create a very relaxed atmosphere where the focus is on music and connection, which is unlike many other night clubs in NYC. Ray, Saxton and Sabi were among the many wonderful staff working that evening, who helped make my brother’s birthday night such an amazing success. This restaurant exceeded all my expectations! The food was delicious, the service was outstanding, and the atmosphere was just perfect. But what truly made my night were the drinks—absolutely incredible! The cocktails were perfectly balanced, creative, and so refreshing.
