An October evening trip to Persepolis, 1407, 2nd AVE, New York started as a pleasurable experience but turned into a disaster with the arrival of what our companion described as an “Old New Yorker” with a loud mouth who thinks that they can bully and intimidate others. Sadly, we ended up the victims of this obnoxious person’s actions and a weak evening manager with no back-bone. The evening started nicely as the door was held open for our party of three plus twenty-three-month-old girl. We were asked if we required a high-chair which we took advantage of. The appetiser of Humus and bread arrived and was good, and the waiter kept the glasses of water filled. The arrival of the appetiser also, unfortunately, heralded the arrival of afore mentioned old loud-mouthed crone who started making a scene when she couldn’t take the middle table that had been reserved for another party. She started shouting and demanding the speak to the manager and disappointingly eventually got her way when she was given the middle table and the two tables next to us were joined and the Reserved tablet moved. The old women continued to complain about the choice of drinks and the quality of the food to her two friends that arrived late to join her. Our main courses arrived and the parts of the meal that we were allowed to consume on the premises were nice. Our daughter was becoming tired though so we had to transfer her from the high-chair to the pram. Normally she falls asleep very quickly but on this occasion she cried, but only for a couple of minutes and not very loudly at that. It seems though that the load-mouth Old New Yorker wasn’t happy that she was no longer the centre of attention and she came over to our table to demand that we take our daughter outside. When she didn’t get any response from us she started shouting her demand for our daughter to be taken outside, in to the cold New York October night air, to the waiters. The old crone’s shouts continued and had the effect of keeping our daughter from sleeping and making her cry more. Ironically our two-year old had fallen asleep and had been quiet for a couple of minutes when the spineless manager came over and, effectively, asked us to leave. Quite frankly we are very disgusted to have been treated in such a manner. We were taking steps to quiet our two-year old, and succeeded in short period of time. The disruption to other customers would have been very minimal and only for a short period of time. Instead the manager told us to take the now sleeping two-year old outside, thereby effectively throwing us out. It is very disappointing to notice that the restaurant would prefer the company of the load-mouth old crone who consistently complained loudly about everything to our company. We have been to many other restaurants with our daughter and she has usually been very quiet. On the rare occasion she has cried, like this one, for a couple of minutes, other restaurants have always been very good. We have also been to restaurants where other people’s babies have cried, and we’ve always carried on with our meal in complete understanding, compassion and solidarity for the other child’s parents. The evening manager’s response to single loud mouthed and disruptive customer’s complaints tonight should have been to apologise to all the other patrons and not to have bothered our group but instead he put us on a very uncomfortable position and made us feel very unwelcome. I would certainly discourage people from frequenting the...

Read moreGreat service and delicious food. Difficult to maneuver around due to how many tables they placed in their space, so I recommend going to the restroom first thing to avoid having to move the tables or try to navigate the room after you sit.
We went on a Friday night and the place was definitely busy, but there wasn't a line out the door or anything like that. The bf also said getting a reservation was pretty easy, and he made the res the same day.
We had the eggplant trio, pineapple salad, and sambusas to start. Sambusas were super flavorful and came with a spicy cilantro green sauce that I ended up using with the pita and eggplant. Eggplant trio was a bit pricy for how much you get (3 tapas sized dip bowls) but it went a long way, and paired great with the bread and pita basket. The pineapple salad was simple and light, which was the perfect accompaniment to an otherwise robust appetizer course.
For entrees, we got the house skewer trio with dill&fava bean rice and the lemon basa fish with their cucumber tomato cilantro salad (it's called something else but I forget the name). I was in the mood for something lighter and the fish really hit the spot. Perfectly cooked, light and flaky with crispy fried edges! The salad was basically a tabbouleh without the grain and mint, super refreshing. The dill&fava bean rice was unique and aromatic, and would've been a good side to the fish had I not filled my stomach with two baskets of pita before. I also tried pieces from all three skewers, and all the meat was moist and tender.
Overall, unexpectedly awesome find in the UES. Have to hand it to the bf,...
