The family and I wanted to try something new and we unexpectedly ended up at Sushi Gama. And we got a pleasant surprise and service by my waiter xin!
I was craving sushi but needed a place that served other "cooked food" for my husband and daughter. Saw the great reviews; delicious looking menu; figured, why not.
We were greeted by the wonderful staff, Xin was friendly, fast and efficient when it came to service. We all appreciated Xin's suggestions in regards to drinks and food which of course were on point!
Our order was taken quickly and everything came out perfectly. I had wonton soup as an appetizer and the tuna and salmon sushi roll, one thing want to mention is the dragon roll is amazing; hubby had spring rolls and beef fried rice; daughter had chicken lattuce wrap and gama bento box. We did not expect all of this food and would have cut down on the appetizers we ordered. (Note for next time!) We were absolutely stuffed by the time we left and had to take a doggie bag.
Sushi is so incredibly fresh! High quality, no smell, great color. Absolutely delicious. Wonton soup - giant bowl! Flavorful. Huge portions of fried rice. Everything was amazing. We can't wait to go back and try some other delicious looking items on the menu.
Good prices. Friendly staff. This is our new go-to...
Read moreHave so much love for this place it has left a great impression from the moment I walked in. Sushi gama has certainly become one of our favorite japanese spots in NY. It's worth every penny given the food quality, service, atmosphere, and decoration of the restaurant. Before delving into the dinner dishes, the specials were deliciously filling - both the Tricolor sushi and chirashi were beautifully presented with notable flavors and rice preparation in the former and generous, super fresh cuts in the latter. The deftly priced premium chirashi lived up to its cost - a gargantuan, yet beautifully-presented array of sashimi cuts comprising mostly of the day's specials with sushi rice, ikura, and other small accompaniments on the side. The teriyaki blew me away with its flavors and succulence. Service was consistently friendly and attentive throughout our visits. Our server Xin was amazing, one of the best we ever had . He did a great job taking care of us. Very professional, friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. We also watched him interact with the other customers around us and we were impressed. It seems that he really cares and likes his job. I hope his excellent performance is acknowledged...
Read moreDelivery: They deliver their menu. I ordered a $100 of sushi and sashimi and instead of bringing it in separate containers they used one, so it was a big blob of fish
The Good: The sushi and sashimi are just fine and I would rate them above average which is a credit to the sushi chef. Also - relevent for their re-opening - there are three large TV screens mainly showing sports for the people at the bar.
The Bad: This is not a place that stresses friendliness to customers. If you go there nearly every day for the three or so since it has been open you will not get a "hello" let alone a friendly word. I must have gone a 1000 times and each time it is as if it is my first. The manager doesn't give a nod and the service men and women change so often they don't know the customers. It is not there obligation to be friendly but a problem with the switching of the wait staff is that the waiter you get won't know the menu any more than you will after you read it.
Advice: Service is slow so unless the TV bothers you (and they might change the channel if you ask them, or not) sit at the bar for faster service.
