heard lots of good things about this place and wanted to give it a try. Sadly my first experience isnāt good. Iāll elaborate on the customer service later. First, the place needs more attention - thereās crumbs of pastries on both counters, and the sugar/cream station needs to be cleaned and maintained better. The gentleman behind the counter was not friendly at all. First he tried to hand me someone elseās drink and I was last in line to place my order. Then I was asking about the trio package if the flavors are the same in all boxes because im not sure about the blue bag that says Caramel and Creamy. His response was; āwhat caramel we donāt have caramel . We just donāt do thatā when I told him again that Iām not sure about the blue bag flavor he said that one is called Holler something (I still canāt remember the exact name). So I decided to pick up a bag of the House Blend and get a cup of coffee, which I know from a friend of mine is usually offered complimentary when you buy a bag of coffee. Paid for both - not a big deal, texted my friend that Iām trying Stumptown and mustāve missed the promotion. She wrote back that canāt be coz theyāve always offered the cup of coffee and she was there on the same morning.
For high grade coffee this is fairly priced, for the experience I got itās definitely overpriced. Would consider giving it another try one day, maybe it was a one time off. But for the time being Iāll frequent other coffee shops like...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHey friends! This review is about sustainability only.
By 2050, we will have more plastic in the ocean than fish. While I so appreciate that your shop offers real reusable mugs, I was saddened to see how unclear that option is for customers who are enjoying their coffee in-house.
I wonder if there are ways you can better communicate the availability of reusables to folks who are buying coffee to stay here.
Maybe that means putting a sign at the cash register, or maybe that means incorporating an explicit ask from your baristas.
But it feels such a shame to see all of these coffees getting enjoyed in-house, and then see these cups get discarded right into the trash after 30 minutes of use, to head straight to a landfill, the oceans, or incinerator, and ultimately as micro plastics in our bodies.
The plastic waste crisis will need both the consumer and the provider to help lessen its impact. Thank you for considering my note and for empowering New Yorkers to be better to our local ecosystem and our global ecosystem.
To those reading this: you can get a mug at the shop by explicitly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife stopped by to pick up beans for me and left feeling embarrassed and dismissed. She checked the shelf for beans and noticed that some flavors were not there. Per my request, she asked a simple, reasonable question ā whether they had any bags that were not on the shelf and if there were any with an earlier roast date (IYKYK). The staff responded coldly, as if the request was ridiculous. Instead of being welcoming or knowledgeable, they brushed her off with a scoff and āeverything we have is on the shelf,ā which seems unlikely since most shops keep additional stock behind the counter. And even if that were true, it highlights a lack of training in how to communicate respectfully with customers. For a brand that promotes quality and care, this interaction was disappointing and out of character. Weāve been loyal Stumptown customers for years, but after this experience, we see no reason to return to this location and will be taking our business elsewhere. No company can claim to stand for quality and integrity if its staff treats genuine...
